  1. #15/2022 After the French Algerian War Texan, here´s my dad´s second T-6 for this year. Used the 1998 Revell Germany boxing of the good old Monogram kit of 1979. The kit has only the football antenna and covered wheels, so my dad took the late style antenna and the spoked wheels from an Italeri kit. Decals are from Armycast, but the cowl numbers were too large, more like for 1/32, but found suiting replacement with a RAF code letter sheet from Fantasy Printshop. Seatbelts are from Eduard, antenna wire done with elastic thread, little spine antenna done with plastic rod. This aircraft had some big light or light cover on the belly, did some scratchbuilding there. Camo was done with Gunze H311 FS36622, H310 FS30219, H303 FS34102 and H309 FS34079. As with all old Monogram kits, also here the clear parts weren´t the best. The canopy parts had some streaks and little air bubbles, the landing light covers needed some filling with CA glue. The Revell Germany kit includes early and late canopies. Build thread here https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235110834-pampa-cowboy148-north-american-t-6g-texan-fuerza-aérea-uruguaya/ The FAU used the T-6 for a long time, from 1942 to 1992/93. Initially they came in shiny silver but later on they received a camouflage. Towards the end of their servicelife they looked really worn. Decided to make the model a little less worn. 2. My dad´s next project, one of two Texans. Gonna use the Revell Germany boxing of the good old Monogram kit which was first released in 1979. 3. Hello guys, After building the small Airfix Spitfire Mk.Ia in 72nd, I decided to go back to one of my favourite scales, 1:32. This time it's the turn for the Revell 1:32 Bf 109G-6. Markings will come from different sources: The heart with Ursula's name, so distinctive on each of Hartmann's aircraft, will be from the Academy 1:48 Ta 183. Lower wing crosses will be from the Hasegawa Bf 109G-6 (the ones with the black outline). The chevrons are from the kit decals. Tulips and yellow markings will have to be painted. Real life photo of the aircraft: Here are the first in-progress photos: Propeller done:
  4. This one´s definitely gone. Was one of my dad´s oldest still existing models. Revell Germany reboxing of the Hasegawa kit. 5. Most probably not many of you may know, that two of these giants were in Austrian service. After Israel, Austria was the second foreign country to operate the S-65. Initially it was planned to buy 9 helicopters and station one in each Austrian state. But due to money reasons only two were bought in the end. They were in service from 1970 to 1981 and then were sold for a bargain to Israel, officially becuase of the high maintaining costs, inofficially because of political reasons. Don´t know where to put it yet but my dad decided to build it. Gonna use a Revell Germany kit version with decals from fellow Austrian modeler Daniel Brenter https://www.brent-air-decals.at/ DSC_0001 by Reinhard Spreitzhofer, auf Flickr DSC_0002 by Reinhard Spreitzhofer, auf Flickr
  6. #11/2017 Daddy has built the next big one from his to-do list. Because there are a lot of D-Day striped Dakota models out there, I convinced him to do a PTO aircraft. Revell Germany kit (Berlin airlift) with North Star Models decals. They came without US insignias (and the kit only included post-war ones), took them from a Monogram B-24 kit. The kit shows it´s age, the moulds are from the same year as I , fit, especially the windscreen and landing light covers aren´t good, moulding quality is mostly still ok. Regarding the windscreen, as mentioned bad fit and tricky to install, my dad decided to cut away the bigger side windows and use some clear plastic pieces to display open windows. Added brake lines with lead wire, aerials are done with elastic thread/EZ Line. Painted with Gunze and Tamiya acrylics. Build thread here
  7. After the Ju52 left my dad´s factory, the free space is already occupied again by the next big Revell kit.
  8. #6/2017 The beast is done! My dad´s newest addition to our homeland collection. In 1937 the Austrian Airforce bought three Ju52, one was used as a staff aircraft and for instrument flight training (OE-HKA) and the other two as nightbombers (36 and 37). In March 1938 they became German property again... Didn´t knew that much about the Ju52 versions before that build. Thought with the ProModeler kit it would be an easy OOB thing because the kit includes the additional bomber parts, to say the belly gunner basket and the main wheel covers. Then we found out that the bomber was a "g3e" version with no cargo doors on roof and starboard side. But the Revell/ProModeler military kits depict a "g4e" version. Luckily I relized that the Revell civil version had the correct fuselage side parts, so I spent some extra money on one of the airliner kits. The fuselage side walls from the civil kit and the rest from the military kit fit together well. Regarding the roof cargo door my dad filled the rivets with Gunze Dissolved Putty, it didn´t disappear completely but with the camo you can hardly see it. The exact colour tones of the camo aren´t known, most probably very close to RLM 61/62/63. My dad used, as usual, Gunze and Tamiya acrylics, EZ Line for wiring. Roundels from IPMS Austria, number decals from Fantasy Printshop. BTW, the little white spots that look like dust, they are remnants of Tamiya XF-86 clear flat, the first time my dad had troubles with this paint. Hope you like it Build thread here
  9. Here´s one of my dad´s older builds, THE classic German medium bomber. My dad didn´t want to do the usual 70/71 camo, so it has become a desert version. Revell Germany kit with Aeromaster decals, Gunze and Tamiya acrylics, Humbrol Matt Cote. Still a good kit, only critical point is the glassnose to fuselage connection. Found no pic of the original aircraft. It´s a bit of a mystery. Maybe "Error"master has striked again. According to the fuselage code the a/c was assigned to Stukageschwader 3 in Lybia. But looking at the scorpion badge on the front it was also with Sonderkommando DORA, a scientific/geological/cartografing mission in the Lybian desert. Also not sure if it was a H or P model, there´s a ProModeller 1/32 He111P kit with these markings. But it looks good in that dress :-) and a fitting truck of Sonderkommando DORA, Tamiya 1/48 oob
  10. Another classic German 2-mot, built last year for the Airwar over Austria theme. Decal options for 1/48 Me410 are limited. Besides that regarding the Reichsverteidigung birds mostly ZG26 a/c with the white RV band are built. But my dad wanted to do a more "colorful" a/c of ZG76 with the red RV band and yellow wingtips. With the help of the books "Me210/Me410 Hornisse" by Peter Petrick and Werner Stocker, the "Me210/Me410 in action" by Squadron and the Me410 book by Mushroom Publications, he chose this scheme. Used the Revell germany kit. The wrong charger intakes were cut off an replaced with parts of a W.Gr.21 tube. Decals came from the sparebox, painted with Gunze and Tamiya acrylics. Aerials with EZ-Line, the gunsight mount was taken from one of the Meng kits. The kit is very good and almost troublefree. Only problem were the clear parts, which were warped. But with patience, super glue and luck my dad managed to get them look ok. The model shows an a/c of II./ZG76 which operated the 410 in Reichsverteidigung until mid´44, then the 410s were withdrawn from RV due to the high losses against allied escort fighters. II./ZG76 operated many times over Austria, Hungary and Bohemia and was stationed in Wien/Seyring around June/July 1944. Yellow 15 was destroyed on June 21 1944 near Niederlausitz.
  11. Because it still takes some time for the next fresh roll-out from my dad´s "factory" I´m gonna post several maybe more interesting models he has already built in the past, hope you don´t mind, don´t want to overwhelm you with posts :-) In December 1944 the Hungarians received about a dozen Bf110G-4 Nightfighters that served with the 101st Nightfighter Squadron. It was planned to establish a second squadron , pilots were trained but never equipped with aircraft. The 101 was first stationed in western Hungary but due to the advance of the Red Army the unit was soon transferred to Austria where the a/c were stationed in Wiener Neustadt and Parndorf. From January to March 1945 they made only a few interception missions without any success. Around early April 1945 the a/c were destroyed because of lack of fuel. Afterwards the crews fled from Austria to Germany in order to became US POWs and not Russian ones. The book "Hungarian Fighter Colours 1930-1945 Vol.2" by Denes Bernard and György Punka was used as reference. Revell Germany kit, Cutting Edge decals, Gunze RLM paints, aerials done with EZ-Line, muzzle dampers are parts from the spares box, upper wing markings are masked and painted
  12. After battling with various vacform builds and getting a little bogged down with endless scratch-building etc. I fancied building something 'out of the box', and after treating myself to this a few months back I decided it was just what I needed for a 'refresh'. This is the first large scale Luftwaffe aircraft I have built, and although not usually my topic of choice, having seen the real thing in Washington last year I fell in love with the 'ugliness' of this aircraft and the sinister look it possesses. This kit has been built 'as it comes' from Revell, and I must say it has been a very enjoyable and trouble free build. It has taken about two weeks from start to finish. The mouldings are beautiful, with very fine panel detail and plenty of internal detail too, including individual decals for the flight instruments. I have made no additions to this kit, apart from some seat-belt buckles from the spares box - a closed canopy and careful painting has been sufficient to represent the seat-belts. I did also modify the undercarriage slightly as it Revell have produced the gear as un-weighted, so I shortened the oleos by 2mm on the mains and 3mm on the nose and re-attached them after drilling them and adding some wire. This has captured the sit of real aircraft well I think. I found the fit of the parts excellent on the whole, with only a small bit of filling needed where the nacelles join the wing just forward of the leading edge. Everything else literally falls together. The radar aerials are very finely moulded and although there are aftermarket replacements available, I didn't see the need. Decals were equally superb, going on without issue - even the spinner decals! I raided the spares box for the tail fin swastikas, but other than that it's as they come. Painting was completed with Xtracolour enamels from Hannants using a Badger 200 airbrush. I sprayed the RLM76 as a base coat, then added 'blotches' of the darker RLM75. These were then blended together with a further application of RLM76 between the blotches to achieve the lattice-like pattern of the camouflage. The undersides were then sprayed 'Night black'. Finally, a couple of coats of Humbrol Matt varnish finished the job. I haven't seen many of these built with the black undersides yet; I think it adds to the overall 'sinister effect' of the aircraft. One word of warning with this kit though - add as much nose weight as possible! Revell suggest 70g in the nose and 25g in each engine nacelle - I added approx. 80g in the front and 30g to each engine and it only just sits on it's nose wheel... be warned! On to the photo's: Heinkel He219A-2 of 1./NJG 1, Sylt, Germany, April 1945. (Yes I know - I need to paint the 'flat spots' on the tyres! My advice: if you haven't got this kit yet then buy it, and if you have it in your stash then build it! Tom
