  1. Hi all, Anyone know of aftermarket turrets for the Airfix RAF rescue launch? Have been offered the kit for sale but it has no clear parts sprue. I'm not skilled enough to go the vac-forming route so any advice appreciated! Thanks in advance, Dermot
  2. This is the second framed Sea King I've built. The first was made for a friend who wanted it for a gift for a Sea King pilot. He liked it so much, he asked for a second one for himself! The kit was made with two M3 nuts built into the starboard side. Brass tube spacers hold the model off the backboard while M3 studding hold it in place. The background is a 12x8 photo print with the graphics done on my laptop. The starboard side sponson is fitted directly to the fuselage, omitting the small wing, in order to reduce the overall depth of the model and frame. The rotor head was modified to allow the rotor blades to be stowed.
  3. P-19 Truck, Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) 1:72 USAFline The Oshkosh P-19 ARFF has provided the back bone of airfield firefighting for US forces since the 1980's. It is a first response vehicle designed to rapidly respond to aircraft incidents and is a mandatory flight line operational vehicle for all bases which operate aircraft. It is only now being replaced by the Oshkosh P-19R. The Kit The kit arrives in a stout card box and is a mixed media kit of resin, white metal and photetch parts, along with clear strip for the glazing. The main body of the vehicle along with cab base, seat unit and rear fenders are in resin. The wheels, axles and nozzles. The main cab, rear grille and additional details are provided as photo-etch. The resin parts are crisp and free of bubbles and other defects. The white metal is well casts and the photo-etch is as good as it comes. Construction starts with assembly of the main resin body parts after removing the casting blocks. The left and right side panels attach to the main body, the roof panel is then attached. It is recommended that the cab interior be painted as the etch panels need decals applying before they are fitted. The acetate windows will then need to be cut to fit. The seats are fitted then the cab walls and front follow. The roof panel with the nozzle then finish the cab. The white mental axles, differentials and wheels can then be assembled, followed by the fenders. The rear grille is fitted along with the roof mounted klaxon, lights, pipes and air cleaner. The rear grab rails are fitted and the cab mirrors, the last items to be added are the ladders. Decals Decals are provided for eight machines; White 5 RAF Lakenheath. Unmarked - Creech AFB. White 9 - RAF Fairford. Red 3 - Grissom AFB. Red C-9 Niagra Falls ANGB. Dayglo 81 Bagram AB. Black 4 RAF Mildenhall. White 16 - RAF Fairford. A picture of a completed but un-painted model courtesy of USAFline. Conclusion These will be great for 1/72 US airfield dioramas. Highly Recommended. Review sample courtesy of
  4. With the decision to phase out the Sea King HAR.3 during 2017, a replacement was needed. Rather than following a privatised model, the MoD opted instead to look at other potential helicopter resources. There were two obvious candidates to replace the HAR.3 - the Super Puma and the Merlin. Following trials with both aircraft, the Merlin was selected. Following the release of the RAF's Merlin HC3s to the Royal Navy's Commando Helicopter Force, and the upgrade of most Merlin HM1s to HM2 standard, the Navy was left with 10 surplus HM1 airframes. These ten aircraft were made available for refit to Search and Rescue specifications. The newly-designated HAR.5 would retain the HM1's Searchwater radar, as well as being fitted with a slimmed down version of the HM2's advanced avionics suite. Several changes were made to the internal layout. Seating was rearranged to accommodate the extensive SAR equipment. Additional bulbous observation ports similar to those found on the Sea King were added close to the centre of the fuselage to aid in visual searches. Obligatory box shot: The sprues, showing the painting work completed last night: A test fit to check how observable the interior is and decide on a construction order. Posts elsewhere on the forum have suggested completing one side at a time and then joining the two. However, the fit seems clean enough so I'll probably just follow the order in the instructions:
