  1. Some time ago there was a Renault FT (Hotchkiss MG, octagonal turret) #67408 exhibited at the Rethondes/Compiegne Armistice Museum entrance. Featuring 5-colour "Japanese style" camo (grey, blue, green, sand and brown with black borders somewhere) it was probably one of the most picturesque WW1 FTs I've ever met. I'd like to build a model of this very tank but the only photos in the web are frontal and port (left side) views. So my question is if anybody here has any pictures showing this specimen starboard (right) and rear views? I know the simplest way could be going to Compiegne and taking photos myself, but in the meantime the Musee has changed the exhibited tank and the new one (#00626) features more common 3-colour camouflage I'm not interested in 😪 Any help will be appreciated Cheers Michael
  2. Some time ago at the Clairiere de l'Armistice museum at Compiegne forest I have spotted the most picturesque Renault FT I've ever seen. Since then I have been sure how will my FT in Braille scale look some day. However - in my case it was the "pre-smartphone" era thus I haven't taken the pictures of the specimen. I thought the web should be full of them... Unfortunately I couldn't have been more wrong - for years only two photos have been there; both showing the tank left side. Roughly a year ago I have even started a topic at BM looking for the help of our community and the scheme sent by @Andy Moore helped me a lot. Frankly speaking the Compiegne specimen - altough using the same colours - didn't follow the pattern precisely. Happily later on I came across some splendid photos by Bernard Bedeur that enabled me recreating this complete pattern. Renault FT is something special for the history of Poland. 120 of these tanks despatched to Poland in June 1919 made my country the "Number Four" among the armoured powers worldwide (behind Britain, France and the USA). Eight have been lost during the 1919-21 war against the Soviet Russia. There these Polish tanks turned out to be an insurmountable shield for the Soviet armies dreaming of capturing all of Europe up to Lisbon. During the 1920s 35 more FTs were purchased from abroad and 27 were licence-built in Poland. In 1936 72 have been sold to Spain but remaining 102 (along with 134 Vickers 7TP and 580 TK tankettes) fought valiantly against the German and Soviet onslaught in 1939. The tiny (even for the WW1 standards) 7-ton FT, powered by the 40 BHP 4-cylinder petrol engine and armed usually with a single 8 mm Hotchkiss MG (the 37 mm Puteaux cannon being the less common option) was the most numerous French tank until the advent of the AMX-13 in 1952. Most sources do agree that almost 4700 were built including licenced variants. The kit is Polish 1:72 "First to Fight" #1939-013. A 2014-tool, crisply moulded and easy to build - just 18 parts (SIC!). It was made OOB - the only modification was drilling the exhaust pipe with some 0.5mm drill and executing the Compiegne specimen camouflage. The paints are (as always) Humbrol enamels: 31 for the grey-green, 113 for the chestnut brown, 144 for the blue-grey, 148 for the light sand and 33 for the black stripes. Yes - all they were brush-painted with no help of any marking pen. Afterwards the Vallejo acrylic matt varnish was brush-applied overall. The black Ace of Diamond emblems are also hand-cut from the white and black decal areas of some WW1 (Eduard SPAD and Amodel Avro 504) 1:72 aircraft. The digits (each cut separately) are from three various Heller Shermans. The biggest problem was the "4" - US Army stencils have it "open", thus some modifications were necessary 😉 The trick with a safety match has been used to show you the size of the details - look at the hammer on the rear deck just behind the turret... The pictures are made by LG smartphone. Comments welcome Cheers Michael
