  1. As a big fan of Spitfires powered by Griffon engines and fitted with bubble canopies, I've decided to enter this Group Build with an Airfix Mark 22 in 1/72. It will be finished as PK605 wearing codes RAC-D of 502 Squadron, circa 1948, thanks to Xtradecal's sheet X72-178. I have some aftermarket to embellish it, such as new 3-spoke wheels, a seat and instrument panel (and possibly more!), but there are no photos of them at this stage - stay tuned to the build. Anyway, just in case you haven't seen this kit before, here are the sprues: Airfix 22 sprues by Andrew, on Flickr Airfix 22 sprue wing by Andrew, on Flickr There's not a whole lot to this kit but I like (for the most part) what Airfix have provided. I'm looking forward to getting on with the build. Andrew.
  2. As a second entry to this Group Build, I've chosen Eduard's lovely little kit of the Mk. 16 (late), which was purchased as an overtrees offering. It will depict aircraft SL669, wearing codes RAB-K of 501 squadron in 1947, thanks to Xtradecal sheet X72-182. Here are the sprues and a nice bit of additional etch purchased at the same time as the plastic: Ed 16 Sprue A by Andrew, on Flickr Ed 16 Sprue C by Andrew, on Flickr Ed 16 Sprue B by Andrew, on Flickr Ed 16 canopy etch by Andrew, on Flickr Some extra leave over the Easter break should be very helpful in progressing this kit and its co-entry, an Airfix 1/72 Mk. 22, fingers crossed. Andrew.
  3. Just stumbled across a few from when I was in the Oggies. These generally won't be my mug shots, but will contain pictures of kit for reference etc. The quality will be variable, as my digital cameras back then were quite low resolution. I'll add to them as and when: Taken from a Tristar. Somewhere over the UK. July 2004. Handsome me in Evenes, Norway. Sometime early 2006. I still wear that hat! Note the two tone paint around the cockpit. Hot loading. Very unusual at the time as it was deemed to dangerous. Nevermind being rocketed and shot at! KDH March 2007. After a bird strike! The engine was fine, but the GE had a really messy job cleaning up! KDH March 2007. Herc C130J. C4. KDH 2006/2007. C130K C1 prop change. Dec 2006. KDH. Inside a C139K C1. December 2006. C130J C5. KDH Feb 2007. C130J. March 2007. KDH.
  4. A most suitable theme for this Halloween night, with the fog-filled streets around my house filled with ghouls, ghosts, goblins etc etc. This months output from the Gengriz workshops consists of two twin boomers, a spooky Frog Sea Venom of 892 Sqn marking the 60th anniversary of the Suez landings, and a ghostly Heller Vampire from the same era, but farther north with 603 Sqn RAuxAF at Turnhouse/Edinburgh Airport. Both are models I have built before in different guises. The Sea Venom is a Ukrainian re-pop of the old FROG kit, which translates roughly as Flash-fest, with Modelart markings, whilst the Heller Vampire is a very nice little model and carries some old Modeldecal markings - the chance to compare it with my recent FROG Sea Vampire conversion leaves me in no doubt that this one is the better of the two!
