  1. Here's my 1/72 Airfix Buccaneer built as S.2B XW987 of the A&AEE. I've built it as depicted in a few photos I found online of this aircraft in 1992, with a buddy refuelling pod on one wing and a slipper tank on the other. The decals are from 26 and the buddy pod, towel-rail antenna and wingtip cameras are 3D printed. The build thread is in the Prototypes, Racers, Research, Record Breakers and Special Schemes group build here together with my build of a Buccaneer development aircraft, XK527. and one shot of the two Buccs together: thanks for looking Julian
  2. Fresh off the production line one thats taken me a little longer then normal (I blame the humbrol red 19 paint) Airfix 1:48 Canberra B(I)6 WT309 of A&AEE Boscombe Down as she was in about 1985. Unfortunately only the nose of the aircraft survice now preserved at Farnborough FAST museum. My thanks to @canberra kid for some help and insights with his vast canberra knowledge. A few homemade additions to the kit in the form of wing tip camera pods, pylons adjusted for position, size, and markings, upper and lower fuselage whip antenna, brake lines, wing pitot tube, ejector seat handles and harness. Tips for anybody making this kit in the future: The plastic is really thick and subsequently the bomb bay doors really dont fit well plenty of material to remove! The raspberry ripple box scheme dosen't show any of the standard markings so an hour+ looking at pics matching what can be seen on pics with whats on the standard scheme is required. And the pilot is very undersized! As always any comments, questions and tips greatfully received. And now the pics.
  3. A standard Jaguar GR1 was modified for the ACT programme to trial controlling an unstable fast jet for the forthcoming EFA/Typhoon. Large leading edge extensions with weights in the rear fuselage significantly changed the flight behaviour and the fly-by-wire control system was developed over several years of test flying. After the trials the aircraft was loaned to Loughborough University and now is preserved at the RAF Museum Cosford. The model uses the Hasegawa Jaguar GR1 with an old Maintrack resin conversion for the new leading edges and blisters. The markings come from the Combat Decals development aircraft sheet. Thanks for looking. Steve
  4. One of several Jaguars operated in the raspberry ripple scheme over the years and used by the Empire Test Pilots School at Boscombe Down until retired and now preserved at Bruntingthorpe. I used the Heller Jaguar T2 and had to fair over one of the gun ports as it only represents a French aircraft with two guns. The markings are from the AirDecal sheet. Thanks for looking. Steve
  5. Im in with a 1/72 (not my scale!) FG! in Raspberry Ripple - inspired by my Canberra SC1 in the Unarmed BG....mad? My trip to Japan for Tokyo 20 did mean I grabbed a bargain - at 1800Y (approx £12) I grabbed this box on impulse and safely packed it back to UK (along with a 1/200 Vulcan!)....I also grabbed my self a GSI CREOS Mr Airbrush SP-771 Custom 0.18 (a slightly updated version to the link below) for £80 less than in UK - just meant I ate noodles for a week! The kit is a variant of the well know Fujumi series - will need me to chop off the radome and put on a modified one (disaster possibly - I have a razor saw read to go!) Has some PE for a raised canopy (mine will be flying!) and metal wheels/rubber (wheels will be up!) - looks nice but the decals are not great so I have gone to Hannants for these... White looks a bit off etc... Wish me luck with the paint job! Plenty of references out there.... https://bpag.co.uk/projects/xt597/ https://abpic.co.uk/pictures/registration/XT597
  6. I needed a break from grey RAF fighters! The ETPS schemes are always a nice change. Here's the old Italeri 1/72 kit with a slightly hybrid livery - I don't think XX145 was ever in this (newer?) version of the scheme, but if she's ever restored and repainted, who knows! Mostly built OOB but with a little aftermarket etch from Eduard, and resin seats and wheels (can't remember where from though, as I started the build ages ago). Decals were from the Air Decal "Raspberry Ripple" sheet which I found on eBay, over Hataka Red Line acrylic airbrushed paints. I'm not sure if the various shortcomings in fit and finish are from the kit or my lack of skill, although it was certainly much more of a struggle than the last kit (the fantastic Airfix GR9). Don't peer too closely! Thanks for looking (from a distance). And with a previous T.2 (Hasegawa kit)...
  7. Raspberry Ripple Beagle Basset from the old Airfix kit as used by the Empire Test Pilots School at Boscombe Down for many years. The kit is from the box apart from sanding the rivets off, scratchbuilt instrumentation boom and home made decals. Steve
  8. Better get my Buccaneer build going before I run out of time. I'm using the Airfix 1/48 kit with a Neomega cockpit, resin wheels, Heritage Aviation intakes and Eduard exterior PE set: I'll be building it as XW987 of the A&AEE as it looked when I photographed it at RIAT '94: Better get cracking. I've started by cleaning up the cockpit parts and priming them. I'll start painting them tomorrow. thanks for looking Julian
  9. Has anyone ever produced Raspberry Ripple decals in 1/72 for the Canberra? I have googled until my eyes go crossed and can't find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Lee
  10. Good evening everyone! This build was finished before Christmas but I left the photos languishing on my computer for a few weeks. But nevertheless, here it is- in all its glory! -Although getting an email today saying that I've been called for an interview for medicine did go some way to encourage me to finally upload them. Kit: Revell 1:72 Tornado Gr.1 Paints: Vallejo Model Air and Metal Color Decals: Xtradecal Panavia Tornado Update 1989 (1:1 scale thumb-weathering might be a tad overdone ) Well, as always- thanks for having a look! Kind regards, Sam
  11. I had this old airfix kit of the hunter hanging around and decied that as the decals were out of register I would cobble togeather the markings for the Raspberry ripple aircraft XE601. This is not a faithfull reproduction of the aircraft there large gun casing mouldings are still there and I have not modified the kit in any way except to put in a white metal mk4 martin baker seat that I found in the kit. this is the first time I have used acrylics and enamals on the same kit and it seems to have worked ok. Normal 5ft viewing distance please Many thanks for looking Rodders
  12. Here’s my latest: Hasegawa’s 1/48 Boscombe Down Phantom, in its original Hi-Grade boxing. No great dramas, and I’m reasonably pleased with the result. The only elements not in the kit are that I’ve used DMold intakes and reshaped the fuel dump pipe under the rudder. Those intakes are an absolute must. Not only do you get a full intake tunnel and compressor, the boundary layer spill ducts are cast hollow too. However, the leading edges of the splitter plates are moulded against the casting blocks and are so fine that both were damaged in the box. They proved impossible to remove cleanly. Luckily, the kit’s parts are equally sharp, so I was able to graft the plastic onto the resin and you can’t see the join. As you can see, she’s not in the even gaudier colours for the 25th anniversary of the Phantom, which meant a bit of scrabbling around looking for alternatives. My thanks to all who helped out with my questions, as usual, but great big thanks in particular to Clive (SHAR67 of this parish) for the unit badges on the tail, without which she would have been a bit bare. High points: fine surface detail; good exhausts (you really don’t need resin replacements); excellent part-metal seats. Low points: occasional poor fit, especially the photo-etch in the cockpit; steel PE (!); a lot of flash considering this was only the second or third pressing from these moulds; no alternative to the 25th anniversary decals, not even the markings that were underneath them; ropy instructions in places, especially the cockpit. The last picture shows the Boscombe Phantom with its Hi-Grade half-sister, a VX-4 F-4J that I built a few years back.
  13. Next on pigsty's halting production line will be Hasegawa's 1/48 Hi-Grade version of XT597 in her full red-white-and-blue glory. Neither boxing of this kit has just the standard colour scheme, which I intend to do; they both feature the Phantom 25th anniversary markings. I'm now sorted for the correct tail markings (thank you Clive!) so the build can begin after a mere 26 years or so in deep stash. However, I've one lingering question about the colours. The "raspberry ripple" scheme, so far as I can tell, generally includes an Oxford Blue underside with (I think) Signal Red outer wing panels. Hasegawa's instructions advise doing the whole underside blue. Photographic references aren't being much help, as most show the underside in deep shade where it's hard to discern the colour. I'm getting faint indications that it may even have been red at some times and blue at others, and this could possibly have been linked to the 25th anniversary scheme. Can anyone clear this up for me, please? Incidentally, she's up for sale: http://www.everettaero.com/Phantom.html
