  1. A future 3D printable Dassault Rafale B kit ? To be followed. Designer Eric Brandon - link Source: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1650968768505352/posts/3583340155268194 V.P.
  2. Interesting discussion over on Hyperscale https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/hyperscale/1-48-rafale-correct-nose-cone-for-revell-t537766.html Love the logic where BAM makes a nose that is meant for the Hobbyboss kit, fixes an unnamed problem, so might fix it for the Revell kit too! But to the point, does the Revell kit have a problem? Haven't been able to find a drawing with any sort of provenance. Found a mention of the nose panelline being in the wrong place on a Greek site. But that's it. 🤷🏾‍♂️
  3. Hello Here is my Dassault Rafale Marine some photo etched parts were used for the cockpit, that's all decals come from revell kit and syhart decals Various Gray H307/308/317 Gunze acrylics are used for wheatering
  4. Morning. My first entry for this GB is the somewhat basic, but still beautiful, Heller 1/48 Rafale A demonstrator: The decals look ok. The cockpit detail is somewhat basic, so this will have the canopy closed. I probably would have opted for this anyway to try and preserve the sleek beauty of this aircraft, in its striking scheme, so no issue there. The ordinance that comes with the kit looks very suspect - will need to find some photo references to see what this carried when on public display. Thanks for looking, Icarus

  6. Morning all, Build number eight for the year is a subject I'm incredibly fond of, the epic Rafale Marine. Base kit is the rather average Hobby Boss kit, which isn't particularly accurate in places and isn't the best fit in areas too, one of the reasons I chose not to enter into the Navy GB in case I made a mess of it... I've built it as it comes from the box, warts and all- I made a right mess of the canopy so please don't look too closely..... Finished using Hataka Orange Line- there's always a lot of contention over French colours, but I found on this build that Light Ghost Grey with a few drops of Dark Gull Grey added creates a close enough match for the base colour, which I darkened further to add the shading and staining. The main markings came from an old Model Alliance sheet, which whilst toned down compared to the overly bright kit decals, still required a post shade to dull them down to an acceptable level. Seems no one can get these right! Weathering came courtesy of MIG Productions neutral wash and oilbrusher. I always enjoy building a model of an aircraft I have seen, so I elected to finish the model as No. 11 of Flotille 12F, which I caught at the 2012 Yeovilton Air Day. 1/72 Hobby Boss Dassault Rafale M by Shaun Schofield, on Flickr 1/72 Hobby Boss Dassault Rafale M by Shaun Schofield, on Flickr 1/72 Hobby Boss Dassault Rafale M by Shaun Schofield, on Flickr 1/72 Hobby Boss Dassault Rafale M by Shaun Schofield, on Flickr 1/72 Hobby Boss Dassault Rafale M by Shaun Schofield, on Flickr And the jet itself Dassault Rafale M 11 Aeronavale RNAS Yeovilton 24/06/12 by Shaun Schofield, on Flickr Thanks for looking, comments welcomed, especially any tips on how to prevent the paint on canopy framing lifting with the masking tape, something that has plagued me in recent builds.... Cheers, Shaun
  7. Revell Scale: 1/48 Type: Dassault Rafale M Extras used: Eduard GBU-12 bombs, Renaissance MICA EM missiles. Paints and colours used: Mainly Vallejo with AK Xtreme metals where appropriate. Flory Dark Dirt Wash, various oils, Alclad II Aqua Gloss, Tamiya Matt varnish and Flory weathering sponge. Hi again! I'm spamming today, got a few finished off and photographed... So, this is another one I finished a little while ago but only just had a chance to photograph. A lovely kit, only issue is really is around the air intakes. Also the missiles aren't great due to an awkward to clean join, which is why I used resin. Other than that, nicely detailed and relatively straight forward build. If I was to build another one, I'd probably got for an after market seat too. Decals were nice as well/ So here she is: That's it! Thanks for looking! Val
  8. Hi guys, this is my last finished model. This is very good Revell's Rafale C in 1/48 scale. The kit has been known for years. In this year Revell issued a re-release to build version C. This is very good kit, couple of problems during the build. I added a lead wire for imitation wires in the landing gears. I also add Eduard's Storm Sadow missiles and Eduard Rafale M painting masks. Model was painted with Gunze H, Tamiya and Vellejo paints (details in cockpit). Exhaust nozzle I painted the exhaust nozzles with Alclad Jet exhaust color.
  9. Second in my 'clearing the decks build log' (the first of which went back on the shelf) is this 1/48 Rafale in probably my favourite Rafale special scheme, which has been sitting on my shelf of doom for around a year. It's the Hobbyboss kit along with Syhart decals. The kit itself is pretty decent though I did have minor trouble aligning the landing gear and refuelling probe, the former due to somewhat crude moulding and the latter because it's default position is a little off and needed some correction. The Syhart decals however were beautiful. Really thin and lay flat very easily but you have to be quick because they stick very quickly on a glossy surface. Aligning them all was a bit nervy! The top side artwork was made up of 12 decals but once that was completed it was pretty plain sailing, though I did manage to misalign one of the tail artworks parts ho hum. I painted the model with Mr. Hobby Aqueous and lightly weathered it with an oil pinwash. The experts will notice the Mica missiles are the incorrect versions - they should be IR's but I didn't have any.. Also, the airframe modifications needed to correctly portray this aircraft have not been done. I've never been one for absolute accuracy! Anyway, the pictures - I hope you enjoy them. Note the canopy is not permanently attached Thanks for looking!
  10. Rafale must be one of the most elegant fighter of the world, may be due to this fact, it's rarely to see a dirty looking work. As far as I am concerned, there is no clean marine plane on the earth, so this is what happened...... Rafale can carry two MBDA apache like this, however it seems that uncommon showed on any loadout chart....... By the way I'm not sure whether the fuel tanks can carry like this...... I didn't glued the fuel tanks thus the pattern can be changed, but it's not very stable though="= Thanks for your watching!
  11. Having already edited Rafale B and M kits in 1/48th Revell has surprisingly not yet in its range the most produced variant I mean the single-seat Rafale C. This will be done in 2018. Don't forget the Korean mix (B+M=C !) edited once upon a time by the Revell plastic injection contractor: ACE (Link) - ref. 3901 - Dassault Rafale C Source: https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/RV3901 V.P.
  12. Hi everyone. Here's my attempt to dignify my long awaiting french beauty.
  13. ....and now for something completely different! The Eye of the Tiger This small rendition of the french superjet is by far the newest and best kit in 1:72. But there are surprisingly many faults and the jet is partly undersized. That did hurt and i spent 130 hrs on that. It was in ModellFan 2016/05. But everytime i look at, it i get some Tiger in my Tank!
  14. Tiger Meet 2017. Brittany, Rafale, F-16, Rafale, F/A-18, Rafale, Gripen, Rafale, Gazelle, Rafale... And also some Rafale.
  15. Hello, This is the beautiful Revell Rafale M converted into a Rafale C. There are many details to modify but the most important is the landing gear. Hope you like it, cheers
  16. Some time ago I bought a unboxed Rafale from Ebay for a pittance, not sure if it ever had any decals or I lost 'em. But to save wasting a kit I ended up buying some after market decals from Syhart(via Hannants). This is probably false economy as the decals cost about 3 times what I paid for kit , but anyway .......... The kits not bad actually with plenty of detail and goes together well. Decals sre superb and you could actualy build three examples from the decals supplied..........obviously I went for the one with the flashy tailfin(although you only get 2000ltr tanks with the kit which were not used on this example at Tigermeet, so some slight artistic licence there). Some of the stencils are like dust specks in this scale and a bit superfluous. Didn't bother with the missiles(as yet) Colour is a 50:50 mix of Vallejo MA 114 and 46, with a coating of Vallejo satin varnish(a bit on the glossy side I reckon) wash was lamp black oil paint and white spirit. Now all I need is someone to say "Is it 1/32" LOL All positive critique welcome Cheers, Saddler
  17. Good afternoon, the Rafale has been finished a few days ago, and today I took the pictures. It's one of the Rafales which did the first live shooting of a Scalp cruise missile in Libya, March 23 2011. The kit is from Hobby Boss, it's ok as a base, but some things need to be changed, as they are not 100% accurate. It's still not, as I left some minor things out like the shell shute for the gun. The cockpit has been upgraded with the Eduard set, and the decals are from the excellent Syhart sheet. Colour was mostly revell light grey, which I think looks nice. Nose gear with some brake wiring. In the intakes, I added some sheet to avoid eye contact with the gear bay. Nice detailing of the Eduard cockpit. Displays, mirrors, grips And lots of seat belts! The HUD may be a bit too steep. Burner can with nice rivet decals, and the added chaff launcher Live ordnance. 4 MICA, 2 Scalps and 2 Tanks. Not bad at all. I think the MICA will fire straight into the tank... are they dropped before launch? they are slightly bent outside, but on the kit it's a bit excessive. All in all, a nice kit which was fun to build. To have a realistic model, I highly suggest the Syhart decals, they are very good to work with, and you get plenty of other decals you could use on other models (like decals for 6 GBU-12, for instance) Alex
  18. LGL Maquettes (http://lglmaquettes.com/) and MustHave are to release in late May 2016 a 1/48th Dassault Rafale C resin conversion set for the Revell Rafale M kit - ref. Source: http://fighters.forumactif.com/t77568-conversion-rafale-c-sur-base-rafale-m-revell-1-48 V.P.
  19. Hello, i finished this model 2 weeks ago. I used the Salt technic (first time !) also i made a HUD. The model is painted with Gunze paints (H307,H306,SM04,MC214 and few others) I hope you'll enjoy !
  20. Ah, la France! Le Camembert, le Bordeaux, le Moulin Rouge, la Guillotine, la bombe atomique... et le seriously armed Rafale, ready to kick some bad guys buttocks! So, I decided to build a Rafale, as employed over Libya 2011. I wanted to build one of the Rafales which delivered the Scalps (the French Storm Shadow). For that, I will use the well-known Hobby Boss kit, which is not bad, but has some points to be corrected. I will also use a small PE-set from Eduard for the cockpit, and the excellent decal sheet from Syhart. For Reference, I will stick to another typical french item, the comic books (le BD, bande dessiné). There are some "Rafale Leader" books from Durand/Zumbiel, which have some excellent reference after the story itself. 160 pages, mostly great colour pictures of the Rafale and the airbase. In my case, it's St. Dizier, where the scalp dropping Rafales actually departed. So, a high level of frustration is guaranteed when I can cross-check the hobby boss kit with the lot of reference material! The Rafale will be Nr. 315, 113-HK from EC1/91 "Gascogne", equipped with 4 MICA, two Scalps and two of the big 2000ltr-tanks. This load out was common in the beginning, later they switched to one scalp only configuration. Marine employed the Rafale all the time with one Scalp only. Nice report can be found here, but unfortunately french only: http://aviateurs.e-monsite.com/pages/1946-et-annees-suivantes/les-belougas-d-harmattan.html Let's start with the kit itself, mostly with le cockpit: I have already scraped the side walls, as some PE-parts will be glued thereafter. Seat looks nice, belts will be added later on. The outlet of the aircon, I suppose. Here, it pays to make the sheets a bit thinner by sanding or scraping with a scalpel blade. The big badda-boums, the two scalps. They are really big, and consist of 10 parts each. And the tanks. This is where the problem starts, all modelers like recessed panel lines. But here on the tank, these are welding seams, and are not recessed, but raised. I will put some stretched sprue in the recesses, to simulate this effect. Thanks for attention! Alex
  21. There are some great photos of this exercice over on the USAF website: http://1.usa.gov/1XYNPnu
  22. I have two old Italeri Rafale-M kits that are known for their inaccuracies, incorrect raised panel details and poor fit. Besides, these two kits share one set of transparencies ( read - one sprue is lost ) I don't want to spend much time to build accurate replicas of this beautiful aircraft, neither I want these kits to be in the stash forever so I decided I will quickly build them in "What If" scheme where accuracy does not mean much. The stories: In growing tension of looming Cold War 2 it became evident that the fixed wing of newly deployed HMS "Queen Elisabeth" and HMS "Prince Of Wales" consisting of F-35B is vastly inferior to navalized version of Russian built T-50. An immediate response measures have to be taken however an absence of catapults and arresters on the carriers made it impossible to accept any existing naval aircraft type but F-35B. While it was technically possible to relatively cheaply refit the carriers with arresting gear and approach systems, installation of a catapult required full revamping of the vessel and therefore was prohibitively expensive. The solution was to use STOBAR system for aircraft launch and recovery, however this approach required extensive modifications of existing aircraft designs to provide required trust/weight ratio for ski-jump take-off. Revised versions of Naval Typhoon, Sea Grippen, F-35C and Rafale-M were submitted for assessment. Most of the designs provided ski-jump launch capabilities by reducing payload weight and increasing afterburner thrust however French engineers' approach was somewhat different. Rafale-MS offered flat thrust vectoring nozzles that along with sophisticated automatic launch control system and canards maintained optimal thrust/angle of attack combination before sustained horizontal flight is established. Additionally there was a dedicated "take off reheat" engine mode for which specially formulated high energy fuel from a separate tank in the fin was used that made it possible to launch the plane with full load of weapons. Although being optimized for STOBAR scheme Rafale-MS retained CATOBAR capabilities. At about the same time the dormant conflict in Eastern Ukraine begun to flame up again and there were rumours that the separatists have obtained several ground attack planes. The aging fleet of Ukrainian Flankers and Fulcrums denied manufacturer spares and support was not in a shape to repel potential treat from the East, at the same time dire situation in economy prevented modernization of national air force. In this light the highly controversial credit from EU and subsequent order and quick delivery of 12 Rafales raised many questions and accusations of corruptions. Ukrainian Rafales were reduced capability versions visually distinguishable by absence of in-flight refueling boom. As it was mentioned above, I'm planning to modify RN aircraft with flat thrust vectoring nozzles, Ukrainian plane will bear splinter camouflage. I'm not too familiar with Royal Navy markings. I'm going to print my own decals, so the questions are - could "Royal Navy" inscription be in black? I can't print white (yet) and I don't want to spend extra money on decals - do RN aircraft bear LoWiz LightBlue-Pink roundels? - is vessel name is written on the plane? - no-nonsense serials / other numbers? - any other suggestions for markings? At the moment I did the following - copied transparent canopy parts in non-transparent resin, will use it as a punch for pushing missing canopy from transparent film
  23. Dassault Rafale B No.336 / 113-IK of EC 1/91 ‘Gascogne’, Armee de L’air Saint-Dizier, 2009. Hobbyboss kit with excellent Syhart decals (Sheet 72-915). Based on one of the aircraft that attended Yeovilton Air Day in 2009 (though without the live MICA and SCALP-EG missiles!) Aircrew came from the Hasegawa F-16 kit. I used them to show an ‘engines running’ configuration so that I could leave the foreplanes horizontal which helps to give the Rafale its good looks. There’s lots of detail on production standard Rafale Bs that needs careful study of photos – I probably haven’t got it all right, but things like navigation light positions on the wingtip missile rails, chaff & flare dispensers, radio antennas, etc were modified from the kit configuration. I can really recommend that Syhart decal sheet if you want to find out about Rafales
