  1. Hi All, Just completed my Salvinos JR 1/24th scale NASCAR Toyota Camry TRD stock car, with decals for Tyler Reddick's 'The Beast Unleashed' Hard Monster 6.0% scheme that was run at select events this past NASCAR Cup Series season. This is my first completed NASCAR model since 2001, and the first Salvinos JR model kit I've built. I learned a lot of things that will be applied to the next Salvinos JR NASCAR kit I build, which will be another Beast Unleashed car- specifically Riley Herbst's White Haze-schemed Mustang he drove in the fall Talladega race. The paint is Tamiya TS-14 gloss black, which was decanted and airbrush, wetsanded smooth, and then clearcoated with Testors Lacquer Glosscote (after the decals were applied). For the graphics, I used a 3 Amigos Decal set, which comprised of two sheets- one that had the neon green graphics which needed to be applied over white underlays, and the second sheet had the main graphics, including the impressive eye graphic for the hood. Decals from a Powerslide Modern Stock Cars Goodies set were used for items like the windshield film tear-off tabs, inspection sticker, weight jack location markers, etc. Work in progress thread here- Thanks for looking. Cheers, Albert
  2. Hi For something like 15 or 20 years I played with 1/43 scale kits and over that period came to both love and hate them. I loved the variety and breadth of the scale but disliked how little research went into each model by the makers. There were a few exceptions to this, notably Renaissance and Marsh Models but generally it was a case of quantity rather than quality, although maybe not too surprising considering the output required to generate enough sales to make it worthwhile. When Monogram announced a trio of kits in plastic they weren't particularly well received by collectors - they had no heft, they were too small and complex and worse - they were made of ................plastic. They didn't stay around for too long which was a pity because they were nice kits. The Shelby Cobra was a 289 cu. ins. and was sold as a road or race version. I started mine and built the engine and chassis but abandoned it when something else took my fancy. I picked it up again when I came across a set of decals for three different versions of the early race cars by DMC who make a huge range of decals for a wide variety of subjects and scales. They were labelled as for a Cobra 427 but are definitely for the early race versions of the 289 as they are for wire wheeled variants only. I chose to do the car driven by Dave MacDonald because it was red. It needed a lot of scatchbuilding, mainly in the engine and cockpit and although I'd planned to use the kit wheels, I think I bought a set of Renaissance wheels in the end. And there is a full engine in there, but the bonnet (hood) is a bit stuck and I don't want to damage it! Anyway, I like it better with the bonnet closed. https://flic.kr/p/2nPAJ5c I had intended to do the white car of Ken Miles later but that never happened. Apologies in advance for some of the photos but I struggled with the depth of field and camera shake - the model's quite tiny, about 6 cms or 4". Dave
  3. Hello all, I started building this following getting it as a Christmas present about three years ago!!! I had built the engine and chasis was started when we had a house fire and I lost the remaining kit parts including bodywork. The engine was built using many Top Studio and other various scale parts (wiring, AN fittings, electrical connectors etc.} Whilst not as thorough as the SMS upgrade kit was am very pleased with my efforts. I purchased an additional kit from ebay to enable me to continue and complete the kit (I was too far emotionally invested by now!!) In my eagerness I failed to notice it was not the 2007 recent reissue but an original release. This lead to the worse decals I've encountered. They were dried and cracked immediately into several parts upon contact with water. II persevered but was so disappointed with the results. I considered learning to airbrush and mask them, purchase a further kit but settled upon a set from Best Balskits, which upon arrival were incredible. This meant stripping the old decals and starting again, which is point I'm at now. Photos to follow once I've worked it out!! https://photos.app.goo.gl/P1Gi2eXRuN4Pjr238 This is my first kit build in possible twenty years, I've included some work in progress pics but please be gentle with me!! Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy it. I shall update as regularly as I can, currently looking at getting working head/tail lights fitted, but yet to make final decision on that.
  4. Onto model no 6 a sprint car ,these cars are nuts not a fan of the sponsors with this so I bought aftermarket and changed colour scheme added spark plug wires ,some fuel lines for rear tank and braces for wing the seat supplied look like it came from the 70s early 80s when this kit was 1st issued so I had a go at scratchbuilding a full containment seat not perfect but it will do ,again poor paint lots of mistakes but I’m getting there and importantly enjoying it
  5. Laaaadies and Gentlemen Gather round, gather round... Its time for those of us from the dark side of modelling to come to the fore, with a GB of magnanamous proportions! Yes, alone, we fight against the dragons with a mere toothpick , but together, we can nuke the buggers!!! A Civilian Motor Vehicle GB, is just the answer we need. You name it,we want it in here, as long as its a Civilian Vehicle Cars, Bikes, Trucks, Racing Cars, and yes, even buses (gasp) The aim is to bring ALL the dark side genre's together, for one big mega GB This is your chance chaps, you never see enough car, bike, truck, racecar GB's?, well this one is for EVERYONE! Any kind of Car, including Racing Cars, Any kind of Bike, including Racing Bikes, Trucks, Buses, you name it. As long as it is a Civilian Motor Vehicle, its welcome here. Somebody is bound to ask, what about civilianised military vehicles like trucks etc, as long at they are not in military colours, they are allowed (Wheeled Vehicles only) And someone is bound to ask as well, what about civilian aircraft??? What part of Motor Vehicle did you not understand? Very Simple guidelines - Cars, Bikes, Trucks, Buses, Race Cars of any description - No Miltary vehicles allowed unless they have been civilianised (for example, big Scammel trucks after the war) - Any kit, any medium, any scale from any era, and as much aftermarket stuff as you'd like. - The usual standard GB Rules will apply. I'll volunteer as Host, but I think we might need a Co host on this, have a feeling this might be a big one... We need the usual 30 bodies, to be put through for consideration for next year. The List, has been started 1) Mad Steve (Host) 2) hgbn 3) Caution Wake Turbulence 4) Black Knight 5) Milktrip 6) Paul J 7) Rob G 8) Dazdot 9) Cliff B 10) Doug Rogers 11) iJones 12) Bonhoff 13) Bootneck 14) Andy C 15) Mark 16) The Cameraman 17) Shermaniac 18) Chimpion 19) Richellis 20) Aimees Dad 21) Rich G 22) 06/24 GO FOR IT!!!
