  1. Hi all, First thread here. I've done a few builds on the ww1aircraftmodels.com forum and I thought I would continue on here as I've got a few non WW1 subjects to build.. However, I'm half way through a Salmson so I thought I may as well post this here as well to kick off.. Picked this up at Telford - usually stick to 1/32 for WW1 but I was very impressed by the kit and had to get it! It's really like a 1/32 kit that's been shrunk.. Going for this USAS colour scheme - I just like the top wing markings.. The engine and gun ring - very good in this scale - but very fiddly! Some nice phot etch supplied - decals for individual instruments The fit of parts is exceptional - it really does just fall together.. They supply a very clever cardboard jig for the lower wing fitting.. Well, that's where I'm up to so far, painting up next . If anyone's debating whether to get the kit - I wouldn't - it's lovely.. Thanks for looking Guy Ps I'll post some completed model threads of my previous efforts shortly
  2. Hi, my upcoming built will be the 1907 Dreadnought by Trumpeter. I have the two Eduard sets (railings and general detail), Artworx wooden deck and the Kagero 3D book (which I like very much) for it. As I am rather unfamiliar with ships here are a few questions: The wooden deck looks very nice but I have never used one before and would appreciate any tips or hints about it's use. For example - will the glue hold it down to the plastik deck permanently or should I support it with some superglue? May be I should have bought the Pontos detail set but it's too late now (too expensive now that I have all the above items). So I am wondering how to do the stowed torpedo netting and looking at the detail 3D drawings in the book I found out the rigging is much more complex than I thought. For example there are these 'spreaders' (I do not know the correct maritime term), that are star-shaped and keep eight (!) aerials or what they are apart - there are no PE parts for those and I have no idea how to make these tiny things. For the rigging I intend to use EZ Line and do as much of the rigging as possible. Is EZ the right choice? Should I try to do as much rigging as possible or might that turn out to look a bit overcrowded in this scale? In general, any experience, ideas and so on regarding the above or the kit itself is very welcome. Ingo
  3. Hi, Just joined but posting a few previous builds.. Wingnut kits are exceptional.. Apologies if it's a bit picture heavy! Thanks Guy
  4. Morning, Another previous Wingnuts.. I think this has been the nicest Wingnuts kit to build - nice and solid.. Thanks for looking! Guy
  5. Hi again, Another previous build.. As always with Wingnuts, a lovely kit Thanks for looking Guy
  6. Finished the Revell P-26a Peashooter- a nice little build. Crit and comments always welcome. Apologies for poor pics. See the build thread here - http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234946388-172-revell-boeing-p-26a-peashooter/page-1
  7. Hi, I intend on starting a series of builds for WW1 bi-planes. As such I am looking for the best products for the rigging in 1/48 scale. I have looked at Bob's Buckle's and he suggests fishing line. However I cannot find a fishing line that is thin enough to simulate rigging. Also, what do people use on their WW2 aircraft that have antenna's (from cockpit to tail). I don't like using stretched spru, and again, I have found that fishing line loses it's tension very quickly. Any advise is greatly appreciated. Danny ps. I am in Australia
  8. Hi There Normally I model in 1/72 and, mostly, WWII allied aircraft flown by/for the RCAF. Lately I have started to grow warm to WWI aircraft that were flown by Canadian pilots. I've been able to build and rig a nice little Roden Sopwith Camel and Eduard's little Nieuport 17. When I started looking for a decent DH2 though I decided to up the scale to 48th and attempt Eduard's boxing. Well, I've painted her and I'll apply the decals (likely tonight) and then it's a matter of rigging before I "finish" her off. My question regarding rigging is as follows: Normally, for 1/72 I would just rig the bird using stretched sprue - just seems to be the easiest in that scale. Well, now 1/48th is a bit larger and I have the right invisible mending thread to rig with but I've not drilled any holes just yet. Is it too late in the game? I've painted her and applied a gloss coat to put the decals down but that's the extent of it - struts have not yet been glued into place so I'm not too far along. In the future I'll be sure to plan a bit better but the excitement got the better of me this time around Just curious if I can still take care of it at this stage. Cheers, Dave P.S. I've read a good thread here already on the topic of how to rig.. ( www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234931805-rigging-for-a-novice/ ) so I'm not worried about tackling it.. just curious if I can still do it at this stage
