  1. I got this Quick Build (Legoalike) Beetle from the local Car Boot sale a few weeks ago for One pound Fifty. It was yellow Plastic, had skinny wheels and was missing the rear bumper. So I decided to see what I could do. And here's the result. Disassembly, a rub down with Micromesh, Primer sand then slightly thinned Humbrol Orange. The (ancient) Humbrol was brushed on and has dried with a slightly faded finish. Just what I wanted. The wheels and tyres came from a 1/20th '(90's? Camaro. They're glued to the original hubs. It sits a bit too low on the arches really, I had to open up the front ones as it is, but the wheels go round, so that's good enough. Inside I fitted a pair of decent front seats from an American car kit, changed the steering wheel and customised the dashboard. The Bumpers came from the spares box, they may even be from a Beetle kit. The exhaust is just a bit of chrome sprue. I think it's turned out okay for a bit of cheap fun. Thanks for looking, Pete.
  2. Having acquired my first airbrush earlier this year I wanted a quick, easy build and simple colour scheme as a training exercise and also to use some decals from my stash. I decided on Hobby Boss' easy build P-39, which despite its name did not go together particularly well, there were gaps in the nose joint and also where the tailplanes attached that required filler and sanding. The canopy looks to be too low and the framing was so indistinct as to make masking very difficult, I ended up masking the entire forward section and painting the frames on by hand. The only changes made to the model were the addition of some seat belts from wine bottle foil and I drilled out the end of the 37mm canon in the spinner. Decals are from AeroMaster set 72-037 Stalin's Kobras and portray the aircraft of Major V F Sirotin of the 17th IAP, an ace credited with 26 victories and the award of the HSU. As you can see from the strategically placed blob of bluetack under the nosewheel its a tail sitter, despite packing the nose space with bluetack. Thanks for looking AW

Hi everyone My, admittedly, rather clichéd D-day themed model railway has been cruelly ignored for a couple of years now, but this GB offers an excuse to re-visit with a handful of fresh vehicles to add to the motor pool.... Although this might appear rather ambitious, in truth these are proper QB kits that only really need 4 spots of glue, 2 to fix the headlights, 2 to fix the front axle and the rest is snap together, plus a single colour scheme - Olive Drab. For my needs, they will be finished with minimal markings using decals from old Airfix & Matchbox kits and no crew or personal gear - 'factory fresh' machines fixed to suitable wagons, coupled to a Class 8 or WD 2-8-0, trundling around in the background at a scale 15mph - great stuff! I had considered building these... ....but after studying the sprue, I think Italeri is the better option for this build, although I may mix it up a little by using some 'option' PS parts to create a bit of variety. My particular circumstances mean I will start at 14:00 on Saturday, aiming to have them essentially built and basic paint on by tea time, leaving me with time and opportunity to wash and matt coat Sunday am.   4. Evening all, My build rate has slowed considerably recently due to work and DIY commitments but I need a stop gap before the Mig 21 STGB kicks off. These new Eduard kits are cracking, I've had my eye on this kit since it was first released, not that long ago. MJW had one for less than £15 and despite my 'build from the stash' resolution I decided to hell with it. As I said theta kit looks great, I won't steal the reviewers thunder as I expect they'll get one to review soon enough, but here's the sprues A few random shots of some of the detail I've made a quick start, the cockpit was painted overall Gunze C337 grey blue. The instructions call for C308. I'm not sure which is right accuracy wise but C337 matches the PE colour much better than C308! A quick wash and dry brush followed by a Matt coat and the pit was done. Finished pit IP, what we've come to expect from these kits, outstanding detail enhanced by the PE. After not much more work I got to here I don't expect to need any filler at all, the seams just need a polish after the thin cement treatment! Loving this kit, just need to decide which scheme, I'm thinking the Egyptian one currently. More updates should follow soon! Thanks for looking Phil
  5. Hi folks, This was my last build in 2013, and was a deliberate antidote to some of the "Classic Fettling" I'd been doing during the year. So, the prescription for the build was oob all the way and a simple colour scheme. Hasegawa's rather nice F4F-4 in Operation Torch markings seemed to fit the requirements, and so it proved. I must admit I couldn't resist adding some wine bottle foil seat belts and a bulkhead between the undercarriage bay and the main fuselage, but apart from that it was built as Hasegawa intended. The kit went together with no problems, and I rushed it a bit to get it finished by year end. So a number of details, like cockpit framing and weathering are not as refined as I would have liked. Still, I'm happy to have it in my cabinet. Oh, btw, the the underside shot shows that Hasegawa decals can be persuaded to sit in panel lines. The trick is to use very hot water (just short of boiling) to soak the decal in prior to application. Comments welcomed. ] regards, Martin

The first thing to note is that I do not do German stuff at all but was intrigued by Mike's review of the Revell 1/32 scale Heinkel, it's my normal scale but for twin engined aircraft I normally drop down to 1/48 scale as they can be a bit large in 1/32 scale, here's Mike's review http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234929128-heinkel-he-219a-7-uhu-132-revell/ just to further wet my appetite Iain decided to do a quick build of the same kit http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234929148-revells-new-132-he-219-uhu/#entry1162026, and there were further reviews on other modelling websites which were very favourable. I thought no more of it until people started to contribute to the 2012 yearbook, when I looked back I found that I had completed just one kit in 2012, it wasn't a case of starting several kits and finishing only one, I had only started 2 kits. Drastic action was called for, I needed a subject that I had minimal interest in so that I would not agonise over accuracy issues, either of the kit or it's painting, something that was mainstream and would actually fit together without a fight, and something that I could build straight from the box fairly rapidly, the big Heinkel seemed the perfect answer and one was duly purchased. I have been saving up progress photographs until I was sure that it would not end up in the bin, so this could seem like faster build than it really is, the start date was just after Christmas. I'm sure everyone has seen the box but here it is again. And the contents The very comprehensive instructions that I had to colour code with a highlighter to find parts, there are a lot of them!
