  1. Well, I finally found what I was looking for...I've had the 1/48 Classic Airframes ASW kit for some time now. I located a 1/48 Gannet AEW of unknown lineage last month and I found a 1/48 Dynavector vac-form ASW. I'm planning on building the Classic Airframes as an ASW, the AEW as is and the Dynavector kit as a COD. I'm pretty sure I can find the decals, etc that I need to complete the project. I've just got an interest in these contra rotating prop birds. Wish me Luck! Nick
  2. Our discussion of P-39's and the ones recovered by the Finns prompted me to look for the pair of Airacobras that were held by them for possible restoration; found a nice link to the aircraft currently preserved/restored and on display. I'm sure Antti has better photos, but the unpreserved Hurricane and Brewster 239 are especially nice, as is the Blenheim, which IIRC, is the only existing actual Blenheim and not a composite of Bolinbroke components. I hope many of you will enjoy looking at them. I think the Brewster is now back at the NAM at Pensacola, as it was on loan to the Finns for display in return for their cleaning and preserving it. 3. While looking for photos of the three surviving N1K1 Rex floatplanes, I stumbled across this photo collection; some very interesting photos, many of which I haven't seen before. Nick Millman probably has seen all or most of them. I hope they will be of interest. Speaking of interesting, from what I read, three of the four N1K1 Rex floatplanes shipped to the U.S. still survive- at the NASM in storage, Museum of Naval Aviation on display, and at the Museum of the Pacific War on display. 4. Howdy y'all from sunny south Texas! Just stumbled upon these while looking for 25 Sq. Javelin photos for a friend- don't ask me how I ended up here! Some you have undoubtedly seen before, but many are new to me, I hope you enjoy them. Some neat modeling project possibilities, to be sure! (Mike, if this post is inappropriate, please delete it.) 5. Off I go switching on the maximum madness. A biplane, from a relatively short run company. It has resin, especially for the engine, etch and film. The instructions have a rigging diagram so may be tempted although I've never done it before. Oh and it needs some scratch built wire parts too. It does look rather nice and the post war paint scheme does rather strangely suit the airframe. Sprues The resin, not many components of the kit. But the whole engine and its cowling. Nice transfers and the film typical Azur instructions, brilliant at times and 'where does this go' at others. Gives three options, all the same livery. Two land based aircraft and one from HMS Triumph during the Korean War.
  6. Hi, Thought I'd post some pictures of my completed DC-6 in TEAL markings. TEAL used three DC-6s between 1954 and 1962 I believe and this is the Minicraft kit of the VC-118 with Old Models Decals used. I added the astrodome and what I think is a navigation equipment 'canoe' on the lower port fuselage. The kit went together well, although some of the smaller parts are a little rough/oversize, especially when compared to a kit like the new GWH 1/144 Avro Vulcan! I had a problem with the decals, which I also experienced with two other sets of laser decals from Old Models - they sometimes tended to fold/peal upwards and not stick. I think I have narrowed the problem down to the Micro Sol, which I think might dissolve the decal glue? Anyway, Micro Set works fine. As usual, the photos reveal a multitude of sins! Oh well, nice to have this surprisingly big airliner alongside my more modern ones. It's also such a beautiful, classic design I think! Cheers for now, Ian
  7. The Soviets produced over 5,000 Il-4/DB-4 twin-engine bombers from 1937-1945, and they were used until the last days of the war against Japan. Despite the use of this bomber on nearly every sector in the SSR, there exists very few photos of this aircraft post-1945. Can any one provide information on color scheme utilized by the Ilyushin Il-4's used after the war for coastal reconnaissance, transport, communications, training and in its traditional role of torpedo bomber? I have read that the Russians did not begin to retire the Il-4 until 1947, and then only gradually over the next eight years. Thank you in advance for any information on unit histories post-1945, color schemes, and operational history of the Ilyushin il-4, NATO code name "Bob".
