I had fun with this. I made a few scratch adjustments, but not much. Those I documented. The paints are all Vallejo Air and the rigging is monofilament. The kit decals went on alright, thankfully no cracking, but they aren't the greatest and I suggest anyone wanting to build this find some better quality transfers. They are a bit thin. I gave it a bit of black/brown oil wash for weathering. Happy modelling! John

While I am completing the Delfine over in the Grumman GB and waiting for the NATO/WarPac GB to begin next year 😉 I have decided to build a few pre-Cold War Soviet aircraft. I have some of Nikolai Polikarpov's designs sitting gathering dust so I thought, why not? My own little Polikarpov Build...I thought I would start with this one... Scalemates has a nice timeline of the kit and, as it happens, I have already built it, but many years ago in the previous century. Back then it was an Encore kit that I found in this very strange hobby/knitting shop in rural Vermont. I have a feeling it was the owner's wife's shop and he had a few kits he put on the shelf. I remember the black and white box with nostalgia... https://www.scalemates.com/products/product.php?id=206914&p=timeline It is a pretty little plane and served the Reds well until the beginning of the 1930s. Here is the single sprue of parts with decent, if basic, detail. The decals are for single aircraft with the iconic lightning bolt down the side. I hope I don't have any problems with them. I'll get into it next year...i.e., tomorrow morning. 😆 Happy New Year to you all! 🎉 -John

Hello again. More spring cleaning and a couple more old models. The Hobby Boss Hellcat was a quickbuild in 2006 to try out what was something of a novelty kit from a new manufacturer - an easy to build and well moulded model presented in a box with plastic tray. The wing was in one piece if I remember correctly, there was hardly any detail in the cockpit and it had very shallow wheel bays. They've come a long way! Looked pretty good when painted up though. The I-3 was a very impressive resin kit from Russian company Rest Models. I'd completely forgotten I'd built this! Great looking plane, the sleek lines ruined by the protruding radiator. I'm not sure that aesthetics were top of the design specification at the time. Rest Models still have a website but it was last updated in 2014. I'd love to see their promise of a 1/48 Westland Wapiti materialise. Thanks for looking. Haris
