  1. Hi all, Been a bit busy with work the last few weeks so while I have painted some bits and bobs I haven't updated here much. To remedy that, here's a Pink Horror (lesser daemon of Tzeentch) which was the free Games Workshop model a month or so ago. I started it really promptly and then got stuck on the fire and put it to one side for several weeks so didn't manage to finish in the same month I started. Pink Horrors are supposed to be roiling flickering creations coalescing out of chaotic magic, and they normally get painted some variety of bright or pastel pink. My daughter suggested an iridescent oily look and I thought that was a cool idea but I wasn't sure that I could pull it off. Instead, I've gone for a "raw plucked chicken" look and tried to make everything look very grounded to play up the horror aspect a bit. I tried to keep to a fairly limited palette of pinks and reds for the horror, and greens/yellows for the fire. I was really stuck on how to approach the latter as it's not very realistic in that it sort of comes out of the metal icon and has strange magical jewellery floating in it. Ended up going for a sort of dank marshy witchfire with Tzeentch eyes floating in it. The metals and ornamentation I tried to keep quite dull and tarnished apart from the gems themselves. NB: The original model's staff was probably an inch longer than this - I shortened it and changed some details, and re-posed one of the arms to take it out of the plane of the mould somewhat. https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/catalog/product/920x950/99129915032_PinkHorrors01.jpg So I'm not totally happy with the result (there's no angle where it looks just right in a photo which is extremely irritating) but it was an interesting exercise and I think the non-staff-wielding horrors would suit this pale pink veiny skin look quite well. Cheers, Will
  2. Not new model, but I still like it. I know, pink sholud be more white and pale, am I wright? I have added extra gunsight from Quickboost, canopy hood with bubbles from Rob Taurus vacu and scratchbuilded rear mirror. Decals are mix of Pavla (I think letters are too light...) and Xtracolors roundels. Maybe she is too much weathered - but you know the name - "dicing" (with death) is such impressive for add some extra mementos of dogfight's somwhere over Brest ... Anyway, hope you like it. Best regards, Michal.
  3. More classic Airfix from me - this is my effort at building the Skyvan as G-ASZJ which was the 4th Skyvan and the prototype "Skyliner" all seater variant. And, yes, it is very pink! van7 A few tweaks are needed to change the basic kit into the Skyliner. Most notably two new windows need to be cut out, one filled in, and a rear passenger door was scribed in place of the blanked window. There is also a blister of some kind under the fuselage which was formed from a chopped up Hunter drop tank. van4 With a fuselage that is basically a cuboid, you would think construction should be foolproof but in my efforts to tightly squeeze the components together with rubber bands my first attempt resulted in a distinctly rhombus shape when viewed from the front!!! Fortunately it came apart pretty easily!! van9 This beast is another enthusiastic tail sitter. The front is crammed to the brim with steel shot and yet it was still insufficient to keep it level. Fortunately the replacement 4 blade props and spinners are white metal from Aeroclub and just about tip the CoG forward enough. I needed to slim down the faces of the Garretts in order to match the (correctly) pointier white metal spinners. G-ASZJ can also be seen with three bladed props earlier and later in its career. van8 The pink scheme was used around 1971 and there are some nice pics of this aircraft at the Paris Air Show. There was an earlier version of the scheme with a lemon yellow colour rather than pink. Although you would think that pink is pink, it took a few goes to get the right match. I used Gunze H19 with a touch of red, with a generic light grey for the lower fuselage. The engines were painted with my diminishing stock of Citadel Mithril Silver. van11 Decals for the scheme came from Two-Six. There was a moment of head scratching caused by the scenario below but fortunately the decal being black could simply be flipped over. I can confirm that later prints of these decals do have the logo correctly handed!!! Untitled This aircraft had a long career - it was certainly flying as recently as 2013 as 9Q-CSD with Swala Aviation in Kenya. Hope you like! Pat van5 van1
  4. Several P-40Ns and P-39Qs operating from Gilbert Islands within the 15th FG were painted Desert Pink topsides and Azure Blue undersides. The reason for such a camo oddity is frequently explained, as the a/c were prepared for the North African campaign and then redirected to the PTO. Maybe... But for me it still apeears strange that less than hundred of P-39Qs (of almost 5000 built) and P-40Ns (>5000 built) were painted especially in Pink//Azure, while other hundreds reached units in standard OD/NG finish. Moreover I have never seen neither the P-39Q nor the P-40N operating in the Mediterranean in Pink/Azure camo. Some 40 years ago I've seen (in Scale Modeler IIRC) the Soviet P-39Q in these colours (white "13" on fin, red fin top and white "Za Rodinu" on port nose side), but nothing from the MTO. Is this only my opinion or were there Pink/Azure P-40Ns and P-39Qs flying over the Med? And if this was only the Pacific-applied "specialite de la maison" did this also apply to the 15th FG P-47s operating in the same period from other Pacific islands? Cheers Michael
  5. Hi everyone, Here is my WIP thread for my entry into the Less than a Tenner Group Build, Project Pink Arrow. I'd like to give you all some background to this project before posting anything. In November 2012, my niece and her family emigrated to Australia, however before she went my wife and I took her to the Shoreham Airshow for our last day out with her. Her favourite aircraft was the pink aircraft from the SWIP display team (shown below). Ever since she moved we have talked via Skype and she always likes to see my models (especially the Vulcan I built), so I have decided to make a model for her birthday (which is small enough that my step mum can take it on the plane for me in July). I selected an Airfix 1:72 RAF Red Arrows Gnat Starter set for the kit and because I know she will want the kit to be painted pink, have gone with Tamiya X-17 Pink acrylic paint. I guess you can call this one a What If build i.e. What if the painters of the Red Arrows planes picked the wrong colour for one of the planes when they were spraying them, thus the Pink Arrow was born. This kit is going to be a complete one off. I have decided that I will create a Limited Edition certificate for it along with a document to send with it to show my niece, how I went about the project and what it started out like etc. Here is the kit : Airfix built Red Arrow : Sprues : This kit will be the simplest build I have built for a very long time and as such probably won't take a long time for me to do. Thanks very much for looking. Excuse the fact that I have to paint this one pink. Rick
