Hi all, Here's the latest in my Fleet Air Arm jet collection, Hasegawa's aging 1/48 Phantom FG1 with plenty of modifications. This build took six months and there were plenty of additions; Quickboost resin ejection seats, with the ejection handles made from 0.3mm wire Alleycat seamless intakes Master pitot tube and AoA indicator Eduard Brassin Sidewinders and Sparrows ResKit wheels Xtradecal Phantom FG1 decals and stencils The following improvements were made to the kit; Blemishes in the clear parts removed, polished and treated with Klear CAD modelled and 3D printed fuel tanks (the kit ones weren't great) Some minor detail added to the cockpit (gauges and wires) This was my first attempt at completely airbrushing a I used vallejo acrylic primer and Hataka red line Extra Dark Sea Grey for the top, beneath, I started off using Hataka red line white, but soon switched to Tamiya acrylics. The red and white tail decal was the wrong size, so that is airburshed too, the omega symbol was carefully cut out from the decal sheet and applied. Weathering was done using Mig Panel Line Wash as well as oils for some staining underneath. Varnished with Winsor & Newton Galleria Satin acrylic. Molotow liquid chrome was used for the chromed oleos, and this gives a much more realistic finish than using paint - the metallic paint to the aft of the fuselage is Mig's Bare Metal acrylic collection - very chuffed with these. I'm really pleased with this build, it was rather challenging and took quite a few months - I've learnt an awful lot about airbrushing and various weathering techniques - it really does look incredible in my display case with the rest of my Fleet Air Arm jets (Attacker, Sea Hawk, Sea Venom, Sea Vixen and Scimitar). I'm excited about having the Ark Royal Phantom and Buccaneer pairing complete in a few more months.... Thanks for looking, now on to my new Airfix Buccaneer Cheers Ben

Im in with a 1/72 (not my scale!) FG! in Raspberry Ripple - inspired by my Canberra SC1 in the Unarmed BG....mad? My trip to Japan for Tokyo 20 did mean I grabbed a bargain - at 1800Y (approx £12) I grabbed this box on impulse and safely packed it back to UK (along with a 1/200 Vulcan!)....I also grabbed my self a GSI CREOS Mr Airbrush SP-771 Custom 0.18 (a slightly updated version to the link below) for £80 less than in UK - just meant I ate noodles for a week! The kit is a variant of the well know Fujumi series - will need me to chop off the radome and put on a modified one (disaster possibly - I have a razor saw read to go!) Has some PE for a raised canopy (mine will be flying!) and metal wheels/rubber (wheels will be up!) - looks nice but the decals are not great so I have gone to Hannants for these... White looks a bit off etc... Wish me luck with the paint job! Plenty of references out there.... https://bpag.co.uk/projects/xt597/ https://abpic.co.uk/pictures/registration/XT597

Here's my latest RAF Phantom using the Italeri 1/72 FG1 kit. XT870 / BS of 111 Squadron at RAF Leuchars circa 1987. Painted using Xtracolor enamels and finished with Humbrol Satin Cote. Decals were kit decals and a few others from my stash. Decided to try the Flightpath ladders and warning flags with the Quickboost AOA cover added to add a bit more detail, fairly happy with how it turned out. Struggling with the fine detail as I canna see anything close up but don't want to move away from 1/72 so it will have to do. Photographs taken on a new tablet and they came out a bit dark but they'll also do. Now onto the 92 Sqn jet.....

G'day all, Here is my attempt at the Airfix Phantom FG.1 in FAA colours. This is the first jet I have done for quite a few years and given the amount of decals on this thing, it will be the last jet I do for a long time yet! I used the Eduard interior set along with Aerocraft Models Detailed Intakes for the intake splitter plates and engine grills (correct name?) at the aft end. The Aerocraft set adds that little bit of extra detail that was lacking and any fit issues you see are from my inexperience in plastic surgery. The detail set comes with enough intake plates and grills for 2 aircraft, so once I have recovered from the latest decalling session I may have to get another kit to wack these onto..... which will be a couple of years down the track. The main issue I had wasn't until I went to put on the 'R' decals onto the vertical stab. After a quick look at some photos, it was then I realised that these FAA jets shouldn't have the antennas attached (I think that's what they are). Oh well if I don't tell anyone, no one will notice right? Just for added interest which might not be accurate, I dropped the Ailerons and Speed Brakes slightly as that is what I saw in a few photos when these were parked. Plus you can't argue with a full missile load either. Thanks for looking. I'm beginning to notice a little trend going on here........

While I wait for the postie to bring some proper white spray paint for the Sea Harrier, I thought I may as well start another classic Royal Navy fighter, the mighty Phantom! I think there have been loads made of this new kit on here, all the ones I've seen look absolutely superb. I'll do my best and see how it goes. It's clearly a superb kit by Airfix, with all kinds of options. I'll be doing it with flaps, airbrakes and slats hanging down, but not folded wings. No idea if that's technically accurate or not but it's how I think models look best, so that's how I'll do it. Amazing decal sheet. Most I've seen are the 892 sqn with red tail, but I'm tempted by the 767 sqn with yellow eagle, just for something a bit different.

Hi Folks I was having a look at the cabinet and decided to post a page of last year's builds. Normally I don't have enough to make it worthwhile! 5 in total for the year, I must try harder. Duncan B Fujimi 1/72 Eduard 1/72 Hasegawa 1/72 Hasegawa 1/48 Airfix 1/48
