  1. Well hi there! This is my first 1/48 model in over two decades (WIP here) and an attempt to improve my mistakes made on my 1:32 Tomcat build / refine my airbrushing and weathering techniques and not paint things orange when they should be yellow, for example. 😅 I enjoyed this one immensely, however had a lot of difficulty with the last bits, and was way too busy being back at work after 2 years in lock-down to update the WIP thread, but in short: - The decals were a nightmare, just because of the size, and even though they're Cartograf the little lines on the bombs for example I just could not get to conform, with or without Mr. Mark Softer. - I once again bodged the weathering by going too heavy, and when I tried to remove some of the wash with lighter fluid, it simply melted the clear coat and permanently fused the wash in it. I need to do more testing on scrap with different clear coats and refine the time between application and removal. - I need to find a way to more precisely apply glue to painted things as any over-spill when marrying painted parts created an ugly joint. - I REALLY need to work on seam lines and filling / sanding, the Tamiya Tomcat had fewer bad joins and I did fill and sand them, but omitted that step on this build because I thought it would be less noticeable at a smaller scale, and by the time I saw how bad they were the model was painted. Also use a lighter primer as the black hides the bad joins better than the grays. Positives and skills refined: - I think this is far more accurate than the Tomcat was, as I did a lot more research online of the subject, applied every single decal in the correct spot, and didn't rush the build until I found the correct paints before progressing. - I had zero silvering because I listened to you guys and did a gloss coat before applying the decals. - The smaller scale really refined my micro masking skill, and things like the tail piece behind the nozzles I had to cut and apply 1mm wide masking tape, and can confidently say I "can" do that now. It was daunting. - The cockpit came out well despite having to do it by hand and brush - no decals or AM like the Tomcat. Closed canopy build so impossible to show now, but you can get an idea in the WIP. Ok enough personal notes, on to the pics: Thanks for looking! Next will be another 1:32 either in F16 or F15 guise.
  2. Hello fellow modellers, In my introduction round as a newbie here on Britmodeller.com, I have already shown two photos of my latest built model, a RAF F-4 Phantom FGR Mk.2 from the former RAF airbase Wildenrath Germany, 92 squadron.. Below the entire series of this beautiful kit from Revell which is actually a rebox of the Hasegawa kit. I used some extra's to build this kit, from Eduard the resin seats, cockpit PE and the AIM-9D Sidewinders. The resin FOD covers are from AMS. For the decals I used a set from Xtradecal. I hope you'll enjoy the pics...! Cheers, Jos Saturday 21 November 2020: Today I won "Silver" in an online competition with my Revell/Hasegawa F-4 Phantom FGR Mk2 from the former RAF AFB Wildenrath in Germany. My model was rated in the category: Military Aircraft >72. Due to corona, the Dutch ESM could not take place physically, so they decided to do this show online. I am really pleasantly surprised by this fantastic result...!
  3. hello fellow artists. I leave you here a model i made last year. It is academy's F-4J phantom which comes with jolly rogers decals. but i decided to build it to resemble the tomcatters scheme. With decals from the original kit and the ones from superscale decals, which i was lucky enough to find them on ebay. Also resin upgrades to the intakes, wheels and tires, tailhook, and exhaust pipes. minor scratch into the wheel wells, and finally painted PE for the cockpit. now, to the pictures. regards from Mexico!
  4. ESCI Phantom II in 1/48 scale. The kit is built straight out of the box. The original kit decals fell apart so home made one were printed on my inkjet, Lou
  5. HI all , I want to share some pictures of my little Revell 1/72 Phantom. I built it years ago. Paint is all done with Xtracolors in Norm72 color sceme. The cockpit came from Aires. The decals were from AIRDOC. I never want to see any stencils anymore when the work was done! Believe me. A little story: The aircraft mechanics were allowed to do a little sharkmouth on the nose. Quite unusual for Luftwaffe planes at this time. After the work was finished the sharkmouth was over 3 metres lenght. For my taste it looks fantastic! I don`t know if the commander thought the same. So here she comes! Thanks for watching
