  1. Morning all. Just finished this one, its the 1/48 Airfix B2 with the Alley Cat T17 conversion. Everything fitted really well except for the pilot and seat which needed some shoogling about to fit properly. It has the PJ productions modern RAF pilot,an Airies ejector seat, and resin wheelbays. Its painted with Halfords car spraypaint (Rover champagne biege upper and racking grey undersides) and finished with a spray of halfords matt lacquer, Ive also filled all the panel lines.. I've given it very light weathering, photos I have seen of the real aircraft either show it very clean or very dirty. The only issue I'm having is condensation inside the canopy. I gave it a good wash down before painting and I thought it was thoroughly dry but some moisture has obviously got inside and doesn't now want to leave. Also, I need a good idea of what to use as aerial wire, I resorted to using fine jewelery wire but its not tight enough and looks a bit wrong.. Heres some photos (photography is not my strong point and are done on a camera phone). Some outdoor shots... And here she is with my growing fleet of Canberras (a PR7 and PR9) All comments welcome..
  2. Hello. Finally finished this one, been at it for ages but this model fought me at every stage. I started off again with the airfix Canberra B2 and the Alleycat PR7 conversion, I decided to fill all the surface detail as well as it is far too prominent. I decided to do 31 Sqdn RAF WT521 again as she was in Laarbruch about 1965. The first time I used the Alleycat conversion it all fitted together very well, this time however it just refused to fit neatly, by the time it was all fitted together and was sanded the inside of the model was FULL of fine dust that I couldn't get out. Its painted with Halfords primer, Racking grey and Tamiya AS9 spraycans. Decals are a mix of the Airfix ones and Model Alliance stencils, I had to make up the underwing serials using bits of other numbers.. Its turned out no where near as good as I was wanting it but I'm just glad to get it finished. Ive got another B2 in my stash but think I'll wait a while before starting. Probably keep it a standard B2 next time. All comments welcome. Mark.
  3. Following on from my Canberra PR7, heres my latest build, its the Airfix 1/48 Canberra PR9. Completed straight from the box with only slight detailing added to the cockpit, ejector seat and the small camera ports either side (bit of a cheat Airfix supplying decals for these).. A very easy kit to put together with very minimal filling required. I filled in most of the fuselage line detail as it seemed over heavy, all the photos I have seen of the real thing show the fuselage as very smooth. Just like my last Canberra, the decals seem to be slightly out of register, the yellows are more of an orange and some of them seem a touch oversized. Next time I'll be sourcing aftermarket ones. It did have the aerial wire attached but for the life of me I can't get it to stick, I've tried both plastic and metal jewellery wire with both super glue, model glue and a combination of both... Any ideas?? Its spray painted with Halfords car spray paint - An initial coat of grey primer, racking grey undersides, Rover champagne biege upper and a final very light coat of clear lacquer. I'm having a bit of a love affair with Canberras just now, any good suggestions of which RAF one to do next? Here she is with the PR7 :- All coments welcome. Mark.
  4. Good evening. My first model finished this year and only my 4th model in the past 25 years. Always wanted to build a Canberra PR7 but didnt know where to start. I wanted to build the following aircraft as I had an old photo of my fathers which showed the aircraft in flight and allegedly the head behind the pilots was his, he was a photographer with 31 Sqdn at Laarbruch about 1965. Heres the photo:- Its not the best quality unfortunately. I started with the Airfix Canberra B2 and then purchased the ALLEYCAT PR3/7 conversion, a bit daunting for me as I'd never had to do so much surgery to a model before, the fuselage was cut in two between the wing and cockpit and a spacer was inserted, this gave me the extra 14" of fusalage length, the underside also had to be cut apart to fit the forward and aft camera bays. I made various internal bulkheads and cameras but unfortunately because of all the sanding that was required, the aircraft internals are now full of very fine dust which i can't get out. The model went together reasonably painlessly without any major dramas. I had decided to spraypaint the aircraft, again this is something I had never done before but I could never get close to a good finish using brushes. The paints are Halfords grey primer for the dark sea grey, Halfords racking grey for the light aircraft grey and the Tamiya dark green AS-9 (thanks to various forum members for the suggestions). I am very pleased with the outcome, also attempted some slight weathering for the first time. I generally used the AIRFIX in box decals but the register is out and the stencils look dull orrange instead of the proper yellow. Anyway heres the finished model, I'm happy with the result, I'm tempted to make another one and correct bits that I'm not 100% happy with.:- Again, thanks to forum members for their help with the various questions I had (especially John).. All comments welcome.. Mark.
  5. I have started on my 1/48 Airfix Canberra B2 and am converting it to a PR7, I have fitted the Alley Cat conversion which lengthens the fuselage etc... There appears to be quite a few options for camera ports both fore and aft of the bomb bay. Does anyone know the typical layout of the camera bays of a mid 60's Canberra? I have googled numerous photographs but there arent many showing a clear view of the underside. Did the camera ports have retractable covers? as some of the photos show camera ports in slightly different positions. Finally if anyone knows where I can lay my hands on Model Alliance Decal sheet MA48127 or just the decals for 31 Squadron (Tail flash and squadron badge only) I'd be very grateful. Thanks Mark.
