  1. Hi All, Here I am with yet another themed build! *GROAN* This time, I'll be concentrating on those aircraft employed in intelligence-gathering and in spotting for ground forces. Obvious candidates are PR types like Spitfires and Hurricanes, although I can foresee a PR-modified Buffalo, a RAAF PR P-43 Lancer and maybe a Phonix D.I making an appearance, and types like the Fieseler Fi156 Storch and RE.8 used for spotting and artillery observation. As usual, there'll be neither rhyme nor reason to my choices - it'll be types that suddenly take my fancy and I'll be off down another rabbit-hole The Spitfire Mk.I PR Type B that I've already got under way will remain a separate build, but for completeness a link to it is included in below. So here we go: Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I PR Type B P9331, Reims, 1940 Piper L-4 Grasshopper, lª Esquadrilha de Ligação e Observação, Italy, 1944 Thanks for looking in! Cheers, Mark
  2. Placeholder for 1/72 Airfix Spitfire PR XIX
  3. Not new model, but I still like it. I know, pink sholud be more white and pale, am I wright? I have added extra gunsight from Quickboost, canopy hood with bubbles from Rob Taurus vacu and scratchbuilded rear mirror. Decals are mix of Pavla (I think letters are too light...) and Xtracolors roundels. Maybe she is too much weathered - but you know the name - "dicing" (with death) is such impressive for add some extra mementos of dogfight's somwhere over Brest ... Anyway, hope you like it. Best regards, Michal.
  4. And they give you one this colour! Had a bit of fun with Airfix's Mk ix in a D-Day scheme for the very important role of Photo gathering.Easy build I know this kit is not loved by everyone the cockpit is weird for a start but they are cheap and do go together nicely.I brushed on the matt coat and reeled in horror as dark dark paint streaked out from it but it worked in my favour as brushing along the direction of the airflow it sort of weathered the airframe in a subtle way. Many thank's for looking in.
  5. Hello all, I'm just finishing a Meteor and inspired partly by John's (canberrakid) luscious B1, have decided I want to acquire a PR variant of the Canberra as a future build. Question is, what kit options currently available do people think are worthwhile? I'm thinking both in terms of kits themselves, and any AM options that are currently in circulation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Tony
  6. Hi guys I will try to build the 1/48 Airfix Spitfire PR Mk.XIX. I will build it OOB with only some PE seatbelts and some aftermarket decals for a Swedish Spitfire. Pictures will follow later. Cheers,
  7. Hi All, For those interested here are a couple of pictures of a a Spitfire PRXI as captured during December of 1944 in Calcutta. Shown below is an Aldermaston built Spitfire PRXI PL841 from 681 Squadron (Sqn) Royal Air Force (RAF). This aircraft as shown here was photographed at Alipore, India, 28 December 1944 with Warrant Officer (WO) 409459 ‘Bill’ William John Henry WELLS Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in the cockpit. Amongst many items of interest that can be seen there are cross hairs for camera sighting on the portside of the canopy blister. This aircraft is also fitted with Vickers Oleo Pneumatic Type 91986 (forward torque/torsion link) struts. Cheers, Daniel.
  8. Here is my Airfix 1/48 Canberra PR9 After building this one all I can say is I am glad it was cheap... The cockpit/nose area was a nightmare, the instructions were somewhat vague for many of the version specific bits and pieces and the illustration for the decals, while lovely, was a bit confusing. The decal sheet was a bit confusing too... Most unhelpful was that the panel lines on the aeroplane bore no relation to those on the picture so there was a modicum of guesswork and judgement involved. Ultimately quite happy with how it turned out though.
  9. I wonder if anyone could assist with some information on Photo reconnaisance mosquitos. I'm just about to start a build of a PR mk XVI using the 1/48th Tamiya kit with CMK conversion, but would like to model the bomb bay / camera bay open to show the cameras and fuel tanks. However, I'm struggling to find photos of PR Mosquitos with the bomb bay doors open. Could they be opened or were they taped shut? Presumably the presence of the cameras in there meant that access was important pre-flight, but the lack of photos is puzzling me. Any pointers welcomed Alastair
