Long-time lurker and first-time poster here, finally (more or less) completed my first two models in about 35 years.. So much has changed in that time!! The Internet, extra thin cement, massive choice of paints, Mr Levelling Thinner, the list feels endless! Pretty much completed the 1:72 Airfix starter Bf109E a couple of months ago but figured I'd go for broke and try building ICM's 1:48 P51B in RAF and D-Day markings next. Lots of practice dealing with so-so fitting and huge amounts of masking. Some firsts.. airbrushing, masking, stripes, blue tack and weathering. Really enjoyed it but took a bit of work and lots of room for improvement. Transparencies and decals are pretty poor, out of the box apart from a few bits of etch from the Eduard set for the Tamiya P51B. Paints are a mix of Tamiya acrylics (some must be going on 40yrs old!) and Mr Color. Some shonky photos along with the 109 - comments very welcome! I'll likely add some exhaust, gun and oil stains at some point, just not sure how best to do this with minimum mess. And the 109 - Mr Color paints mainly, and the yellow nose just because.

So I picked up the 1979 Airfix P51B from Bovington model show ....checked it had a canopy ...tick👍 What a suprise when I got it home it was a P51D canopy. After pondering modifying bits of canopy?I put a call out on the wanted Forum and @Fatalbert....came to the rescue with a vacuform one. Only I cut it all wrong ...sausage fingers and cocked it up. So continued the build then I found out there was a chinese brand...cant remember which its packed away for the big house move. Anyway it has two canopies the bubble malcom hood and a car door type?. Stuck that one fettled it and volia one dodgy model. Had some snags with silvering probably because I am a piso git ...tight as a gnats chuff..and used an old bottle of humbrol clear.. Its in the bin now. Still ere tiz Thanks to @adrianMF too for advice ....sorry @fatalbert about tthe canopy.

Last summer I bought Academy's 1/72 P-51B during a visit to Canada, and subsequently painted it before realizing I didn't really know what markings I wanted to put on it. Since then, it sat back in it's box. Over the past few weeks, I've started to go back through unfinished kits so that I can finally get them done. Using some Swedish roundels that came from a Microscale Texan sheet, I decided to finish the P51B as J-26 #26001, the first Mustang in Swedish service. The aircraft came into Swedish hands after an American pilot landed it there in the spring of 1944. The '16' on either side of the fuselage has been added since the photo was taken, courtesy of a Foxbot P-40 Stencil Sheet. The shape isn't exact, but I don't care to spend anything to get it closer. I went light on the stencils this time as most of the ones in the kit weren't legible. Paint is Tamiya Khaki over Vallejo Neutral Gray. Brush painting with Tamiya isn't easy, but I think it gave this one a decent weathered look. Prop and landing gear are all mostly painted and awaiting a few decals and touch ups. Hopefully this will be done by the end of the week. Thanks, Tweener

Hello everyone, In the near future I plan on building livebait which is a p51b (or was it a c)... Anyway feel free to tag along, I plan on using the tamiya mustang kit with Eduard pe and aeromaster decals, I may add some resin bits and bobs such as drop tanks and wheels! A little teaser; I also have a tamiya D in the stash so may do grim reaper later! Thanks for looking Joss
