  1. Hi All, here I am again with another themed build thread, this time featuring Republic's Mighty Jug. This will be another departure for me as the only P-47 I've ever built was Airfix's 1/72 scale 1970s-or-80s effort, which was finished in SEAC colours. These builds will be resolutely 1/48 scale, as are all my builds at the moment, and I'll be aiming to use the most up-to-date kits on the market at the time I begin each. As with my other themed build threads, I'm not aiming to build one of everything, just those that, for whatever reason, happen take my eye. The P-47 is still very much a closed book for me, but I've got a number of older publications to leaf through and a couple of other likely reference sources on my radar. However, I would be very grateful to the Thunderbolt experts out there for pointers toward good books on the subject! As I'm already building the Dora Wings Seversky P-35, albeit in its S-2 racing configuration (link here if you're interested), it seems rude to not include the Thunderbolt's ancestors such the P-43 Lancer in this project; I've got a bit of a soft spot for the Lancer, and Dora Wings' kit is already safely in my stash! There are also the prototypes such as the XP-47H, another personal favourite, which are more than likely to make an appearance. So, among those victims already selected are a 5th ERS P-47D Razorback, 395th FS P-47D Razorback "Miss Second Front", 56th FG P-47B (but not Hub Zemke's!), a.n.other RAF aircraft in SEAC colours..... Here we go: Republic P-47B Thunderbolt, 56th Fighter Group, Long Island, 1942 Cheers for now, Mark
  2. Hello fellows, Let me show you my new project. The Trumpeter P-47 Thunderbolt, bubbletop, "2 Big and too Heavy", in 1/32 scale. As you know, this Tumpeter's model has a lot of interior details, which I'll try to made visible...(at least some of them). And here some pics...; this is the real bird, and the Trumpeter art box. As usual, I've started with the cockpit: As aftermarket, I only bought the Yahu Instrument panel. In my opinion It's worthy, and improves a lot. Most of the ducting and piping, wont be visible after the model is assembled... I'd like this part be visible, so I've added some hoses and wires... As also I did, behind the instrument panel: Prior cutting the fuselage, I did a fit test... My idea is gluing the two cut parts of fuselage, so they be easily to put and remove, in order to show the interior (the water tank, fuses added, etc..) And this is the way I hope the model will be seen (removing the parts): Note: the rear part of fuselage, won't be removable. Alhough I think is interesting, also.... So now, after putting AK putty for filling the gaps, the two halfs are drying... And finally, a last pic of the model.... I hope you enjoy it, and I would appreciate your comments! Thanks for watching.
  3. Hy friends, as the end of the year is approaching, it is time to finish the started projects. The model is probably well known to everyone, the casting is nice and I had no problems working. The P-47 is by far my favorite WWII aircraft. This is my sixth P-47, which I completed, but after the New Year we move on. Here are the pictures, enjoy.
  4. Dear fellow Britmodellers, here's my 1/72 Tamiya P-47D Razorback, built from the box, with decals from Xtradecal. The model represents "R3-G" of 410th Fighter Squadron, 373rd Fighter Group, based at St. James, France, in August 1944. The model was painted with various shades of Alclad II lacquers and Gunze acrylics. All photographs by Wolfgang Rabel. Thank you for your interest, best greetings from Vienna!
  5. Yet more from what I laughingly call "my portfolio" or even more pretentiously "mes oeuvres" are these two American aircraft in Olive Drab. Unfortunately in the clean up Fairy liquid seems to have washed away some of the OD enamel!!!!!!! and left dusty lumps that won't come off. First up is Don Gentile's Shangri-La from the HobbyBoss easy kit. Well I needed something easy for one of our one-day build days. Actually its not a bad kit and assembled nicely and quickly. The only point of interest is the spinner colour - I took along an Osprey book about Mustangs (yes, researching during the 7.5hour available build time) and found the spinner was white on the cover painting and definitely not white in a photo inside. As you will see I hadn't realised how dark "Neutral Gray" is supposed to be when I built this. The second plane is a Hasegawa Thunderbolt. I can only say it was alright. Not sure if it was the kit or I just didn't get really into it, this kit doesn't have the excuse of a one-day build. The stiff, fragile decals didn't go down well and seem to have been adversely affected by the clean-up even though all my planes get Kleared and matt varnished. The decals have also now decided to silver after several years of being fine! Cheers Will
  6. So, another airplane today. It is a fourth publication of my work on a forum. Р- 47D " Razorback" 61st FS/56th/8th AF Flown by Lt.Frank W.Clibbe. HISTORY: Of all the major American Air Force fighters of WWII, only the Republic “Thunderbolt” was powered by an air-cooled radial engine. With external drop tanks a range sufficient to reach Berlin from England was achieved and “Thunderbolts” began escorting American heavy bombers right to the target and back. My Р- 47D " Razorback" was completed in building 31.12.2016 Best regards. Andrii
