  1. OzMods is to reissue shortly its 1/48th de Havilland Canada DHC-4 (C-7) Caribou multimedia kit - ref. OMKIT 4801 See review: https://www.internetmodeler.com/2001/october/aviation/oz_c-7_caribou.htm Sources: https://ozmods-kits.com/1-48-kits/ https://www.facebook.com/OzModsScaleModels/posts/pfbid02hF5WJ99u1mca3VQV2gukeyRb4pw23rY4Dhr5cMiLcWtCkUrXnRz4xFxAbCYM6Bbul https://www.facebook.com/OzModsScaleModels/posts/pfbid02JHb79DReLHMNjLLt3a3o7EQ8DutaJcge14KvmCXsi7JXF6RChzM8tWMGwJ23Q17El V.P.
  2. Ozmods http://www.ozmods-kits.com/ has just released a new tool 1/72nd Pilatus PC-9 kit - ref. OMKIT 7201. The kit comes with injected plastic and clear parts, resin parts and decals for both Roulettes and Thai Air Force aerobatics teams. In-box review: http://forum.aussiemodeller.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=8786 V.P.
  3. On Wednesday the postman delivered this, so I can make a start in the GB: Sprue shots: Usual short run fare, no locating pegs apart from one for the cockpit and four small lugs where the fuselage joins the wing. Flash on most of the parts and huge sprue gates. Detail is finely engraved. An additional sprue with a prop (the kit gives the option of flight mode or feathered), some nicely cast resin parts for the cockpit and three canopies, two vac formed and one (frankly awful) injected. I intend to use the injected canopy as a mask when it comes time to paint. Decals: The fairly straight forward instructions: and a couple of pages of painting and decal placement plans, in colour. I will be attempting this one: A start has been made on cleaning up the parts, the plastic is quite soft and cleans up easily, in fact care has to be taken to avoid over sanding. The undercarriage parts have a mould line that is particularly difficult to remove and the wheels would have been better cast in resin. I have had one small disaster with the spinner. One thick attachment point was successfully cut, but the second one resulted in a breakage of the rear of the spinner itself. I’ve stuck the broken bit back on and flooded the joint with CA so 🤞it holds. A dry fit has shown that there will be some gaps but I’ve seen worse on mainstream kits. Good news is the resin cockpit will actually fit the fuselage! I don’t know how far I’ll get with this model as we have a house move coming up and it’s looking like our new place will be ready earlier than originally thought, so there might be a break in proceedings. More to follow, thanks for looking. AW
  4. Hello all. This will be my second entry into this GB. This one qualifies on two counts, it is for Air New Zealand, and it is Australian made by OzMods! This is what I am up against. On the whole, it looks to be a good package. It will need a fair bit of work, but should be fun! The box was nice and sturdy: The parts have a bit of flash and are also quite stained. I am not sure if it is discoloured plastic or releasing agent. I know the bits will get a bath before I start though. There is a nice selection of resin parts, and an optional interior. There are marks inside the fuselage to indicate where to cut if I want to use the cockpit details. I will need to have a closer look at the glazing before I decide. The markings look very good indeed. There will be an interesting round of masking to get the black/white demarcation right. This is the inspiration for this project. I took this photo at Nelson Airport in 2017 when I was fortunate enough to get out to NZ and visit an old school friend of mine who I had not seen since 1982! Anyway, I am looking forward to getting this started when the time comes. I will occupy my time in the meanwhile by building another EE Lightning! Take care all, Ray
  5. Hello all, I have just completed this lovely little kit for the Australian and New Zealand Group Build here on Britmodeller, the build log can be seen here if you are interested: I was lucky enough to find my way out to New Zealand in 2017, and had a flight in one of these from Christchurch to Nelson, and what a wonderful aircraft it is too! It was with some excitement that I found out last year that OzMods did a model of one with the white/black fern leaf design that I personally think looks a classic. Opening the box, I found out why it was 'for experienced modellers', but having dealt with that sort of thing before, I gave it a go. I am happy with how it came out, but I did make a few errors (all in the log!). The worst was a slight discrepancy in the masking for the black part of the fuselage. I think I got it about 5mm too far forward, and, when I aligned the cabin window/door strips so the doors where part on the white, part on the black, the windows and forward doors wher too far forward too. I do apologise for that. I also think there were one or two bits that I could have tidied up a bit more, but basically what you see is what was supplied in the kit (except paint/glue/filler!). The transfers were very good indeed, but you are warned not to use setting agents, only water and washing up liquid. Some of our Forum Members could do a fabulous job with one of these, as for me, I am happy with it. Anyway, this is what I ended up with: This, hopefully, will set me in good stead for the FRsin ATR-72 I also have, with the earlier bluish-tailed ANZ scheme. Thanks for looking, and please forgive the errors! Take care all, Ray PS, please do pop over to the Australian and New Zealand Group Build, there are a lot of cracking builds of all genres going on there and is well worth a look!
  6. Well the “HMAS Vendetta” build is finally finished and I only lost decal, a very small Pennant number down around the stern. Dammed the convicts for adopting the US Navy pennant number system unlike the Kiwis who still used the proper numbering system aka the RN for Commonwealth Navies. Paints used were, Tamiya Fine Surface Primer (light Grey), Humbrol Acrylic Spray Grey 64 both were in a rattle can. Humbrol Emamel Matt Black, Matt White and Humbrol Acrylic 64 which I think I’ll throw out in the end. Sovereign Colourcoats RN16 (old stock). Aftermaket parts from Shapeways in form of the 4.5” turrets, the two twin 40mm Bofors and two single 40mm Bofors. Ladders were pinched from my two Flyhawk L Class Destroyer builds. A few little school boy errors during the build, but overall a very enjoyable build in the end. But the real joy of this build was having a few old boys from the pirates who served on one of the 4 Darings retelling a few dits, and during Vendetta’s time on the gun line during the Vietnam with USN and the technical side of the Darings in the RAN. Would like to have added railings and the catwalk between fw’d and aft superstructures. Here’s the history of the build for those who haven’t been following it.
  7. Since my admission back into the Xavier Ward for PTSD at St John of God Hospital in Nth Richmond Sydney NSW, the staff has ask if I could leave one of my model ships for display? But since a couple of these a going to form apart of display, “I said I do something a wee bit special which would link in with the work done here on the Xavier Ward and why the Xavier Ward is here in the first place.” So I selected a Daring Class Destroyer by OzMods in Resin 1/700. HMAS Vendetta was the only ship of its class in the RAN to see active service and fire it’s guns in anger. It seen active service with the US 7th Fleet on the gun line during the Vietnam War and from all accounts the yanks prefer her to use her more than other ship on the gun line due her firepower and accuracy. Between October 1969 to March 1970 she fired 13,295 rds at approximately 1,750 different targets. In fact She and her crew did so well on the gun line the 7th Fleet requested for another Daring Class Destroyer from RAN to replace the Vendetta instead of the more modern Charles F Adams DDG’s that the RAN had in service at the time. This model once completed will form a part of the Veterans Week displays done by the staff and members of the Xavier Ward for PTSD at St John of God Hospital in Nth Richmond NSW Australia.

  9. I have started to work on the Caribou I just received form OzMods as per the review I posted on the main site. As I expected I needed to do some clean up of the leading and trailing edges of the wings and tail planes as well as the rudder, nothing bad though. I used some 400 grit then 2000 grit wet and dry to smooth the edges down and they are now good. The mold mark on the top of the fuselage was/is easily taken care of with some Humbrol putty, I have just added a second coat as I missed a few small marks with my first try. The rudder was trimmed to fit on the tail as were the tail planes and they are ready to fit once I finish sanding the putty I have used on the mold mark and the wing join. I will be doing the aircraft in the later camouflage scheme involving two greens and black areas..
  10. Hi all and this is my latest finish, the 1/144 OzMods conversion of the E-2 Hawkeye into a C-2A Greyhound. While 1/72 is normally my scale, I've always had a soft spot for this one. The full build is here but to recap: Kit: Heller Hawkeye (donor kit) and OzMods C-2A conversion set Scale: 1/144 Paints: White from a Rattlecan, all others with a brush. Future, FloryModels wash, W&N Matt Varnish (also brush) Extras: None Decals: From the conversion set, for VRC-30 'Providers' Really enjoyed this one and here's to all those who fly transport and haul stuff for a living... Thanks for looking. Dermot
  11. Hi everyone, While 1/72 is normally my default scale, I've built the odd 1/144 kit. And being a fan of naval aviation, I've always had a big soft spot for the Grumman C-2 Greyhound - they do all the unglamorous but essential hauling to and from carriers - whether that's spare parts, passengers or parcels from home. At some point I'll either save up enough for the RHVP resin kit or Kinetic will downsize their 1/48 beasty so for now I'm going with this conversion from OzMods in 1/144 using a Heller E-2C Hawkeye as the donor kit. C-2A Greyhound_Conversion_Set by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Here's what you get in the OzMods kit..A two-sided instruction sheet with assembly details on one side and paint/decal placement in colour on the other (not pictured) OzMods C-2A Greyhound contents by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Clear fuselage halves... OzMods C-2A Greyhound contents_fuselages by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr New tail section and ramp in plastic along with some resin bits. OzMods C-2A Greyhound contents_2 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr And nice decals for VRC-30 "The Providers" OzMods C-2A Greyhound contents_decals by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr And what's in the Heller Hawkeye kit....this will provide the wing, engines, landing gear, vertical stabilisers. 14. I have posted a review of the new OzMods 1/72 Pilatus PC-9 on Aussie Modeller. http://www.aussiemodeller.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=8786&p=68384#p68384
  15. This was my entry to the Hornet STGB; Revell 1:144 F/A-18D, backdated to a 'B and modified to represent the hornets of the RAAF, specifically A21-106 as shown here http://www.adf-gallery.com.au/gallery/Hornet-A21-106/DN_3A21_106 The build stalled waiting for the retrowings resin cockpit. It'll be parked up covers over the intake and exhaust with the wings folded and the canopy open. I've the retrowings resin control surfaces along with the ozmods resin fuel tanks. The retrowings cockpit arrived a couple of weeks ago; my Tomcat for the USN GB is finished and the nights are drawing in so I thinks its time to dust this one off as the winter project.
  16. Ozmods future and first 1/32nd resin kit is a Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka II - ref. OMKIT3201 Source: http://www.ozmods-kits.com/aircraft-kits-132 V.P.
  17. Here's my entry the Revell 1:144 F/A-18D, backdated to a 'B and modified to represent the hornets of the RAAF, specifically A21-106 as shown here http://www.adf-gallery.com.au/gallery/Hornet-A21-106/DN_3A21_106 Here the box shot, and the novascale decals. The decals are APLS prints which I've never had to deal with before. The RAAF roundels look really crisp but the blue flashes aren't all that great, but we'll see how we go. I've also the retrowings resin control surfaces and cockpit set along with the ozmods resin fuel tanks and bomb carriers on order. I think it'll be parked up covers over the intake and exhaust with the wings folded and the canopy open.
