Thought I might share pics of my new bit of kit. Since I'm about to embark on a few small scale projects (and I've really wanted one for ages) I decided to pick one up.
It consists of a large anglepoise mechanism with a pretty solid clamp mount, perhaps the mount would benefit from a rubber pad for even more security but you can tug it back and forwards as much as you like and it hardly moves more than a millimeter or so. The head has a 125mm 5 dioptre lens, with its own dust cover, surrounded by a 22 watt daylight tube. The magnification is really good, beautiful and clear, hard to picture but it seems to magnify by approximately 2-3 times, depending on how close you hold the object. The light itself is also superb, being bright and clear but not blinding, even when the rest of your man cave is in darkness.
I got a few pictures, first two are daylight and night shots of the lamp itself.
Next is a night shot of my Airfix 1/76th Panther, through the lens itself. Camera and model were about 10 inches apart, with the lens about halfway. Normally at this distance I'd be using macro but the camera was set to normal auto mode and as you can see the detail is superb.
Last is the model on my indescribably messy workbench. Lamp is on overhead, camera is set to macro and note I am NOT using my tripod. Usually I'd never even attempt this, as the pictures are way too blurry even with fair lighting.
Also, even though I've resized the pictures, I've not had to mess about with the levelling or colour correction tools at all, as the light really is "daylight".
Well worth a punt, you can pick them up at Maplin just now for nearly half their usual price. And if anyone wants any pics of specific parts, just let me know.
Odd.
