Not sure if this really merits an RFI thread but it’s been on the shelf of doom so long I think I’ll do one anyway. Revell 1/144 Apache US Army completely oob, a nice little kit.

Kit Tamiya. Paint Tamiya & Mr Color lacquers, Xtracolour enamels. Decals Eagle Cal 48-173. Extras None. Fw190A-3 Stab IV / JG5 Herdla, Norway Late 1942. On another forum there is a group build in memory of Jerry Crandall (of Eagle Productions) who recently died of complications arising from Covid-19. This is my entry for that GB. This is the 1994 Tamiya kit, built without any modifications or AM other than the decals from Eagle-Cal sheet 48-173. Painted with Tamiya acrylics and Mr. Color lacquers (and Xtracolor enamels for the fabric control surfaces). My third ‘old’ Tamiya kit in three months and sixth WWII build in a row. The build is entirely predictable – in a good way – absolutely no surprises, what did surprise me was just how co-operative (if smelly) Mr Color and Tamiya lacquer paints are. I’m a recent convert and am finding them an absolute joy to work with. Lots of pre-shading, perhaps a little too much and careful weathering with W & N oils – no pre-mixed washes here. The decals behaved perfectly, but then Jerry Crandall prioritised accuracy & quality above all so not surprised by that. Please feel free to ask any questions or make any comments/criticism. I’ll be building this, it’s a superb kit which I was going to build in the kit scheme, but owing to world events no red stars will be crossing my work bench. So it will be in one of the schemes below. Decisions, decisions, I’m leaning towards the second one but I like the way the first one looks like someone took a 6inch brush to it in the field,

While I blatantly put off riveting my 1/48 corsair in this GB, I’ve decided to do a relatively quick OOB build from the stash. This one was a bit spur of the moment @modelling minion This fella… sprues look pretty good, (although with kinetic’s 2 in 1 box that one gets a ton of waste. not sure of the logic as theres enough parts to make approximately 1.5 models.) and stop… …actually i was going to post all the sprues here, but they’re all out there on multiple sites photographed much better than i can… so i wont. if one is interested you can find reviews via scalemates. but just wanted to personally share that some detail is great and some isnt… and the decals are ace although i might stencil the roundels as they look a pain round the intakes glue has been used! and we’re away… I will load it with some ground attack ordnance of course

Got this yesterday ( ignore the Nesher) it’ll be a bit of a mojo restorer and a quick build. AMW built one a few issues back and it looks like a lovely kit ( head and shoulders above the last Sherman I built which was the Airfix classic Sherman crab, dog rough. And the last Sherman I didn’t build but used for parts for my St Chaumond) -
Kit - Revell 1:72 Paint - All enamels Decals - Xtradecal & Kit Extras - None Hawker Hunter FGA9 XE552 'R' 229 OCU / 79 Squadron RAF Chivenor Early 1970's So the second finished build for this weekend and my last Revell FGA9 kit - I did have four at one time, and I still have one last F6 in the stash. Nobody needs me to say anything about this kit, it's all been said before. Personally I love it, and the only 1:72 kit I've built more of is the Hasegawa F-4 series. This is straight from the box except the decals which are from an early Xtradecal Hunter specific sheet, I forget the catalogue number, personally I think the red is too bright, I'd have probably been better using the kit ones, but I can live with that. Unusual for me to finish two builds almost at once, doesn't happen too often. Please feel free to ask any questions, make any comments or criticisms. All the best from a still sunny New Zealand. I’ll probably keep the kit scheme on the Academy, going to have to find something interesting for the LS. I’ll start chipping away but I reckon I won’t really get going properly till I’ve got my two F16s done.

My internets been on the fritz all Christmas Day so a belated post. Christmas Day 8:43 sprues 10:50 all parts cut off and fettled. Turret partially assembled and ready for paint. My secret weapon a can of Montana Black Morpheus, ( I bought Dumbo but it wouldn’t spray ) 11:20 painted and a sharpie used for the black on the road wheels. St Stephen’s Day (Boxing Day) 9:50 major assembly finished. Next up, attach the tracks, a bit of brush touch up then decals, white distemper and weathering.

So after fifty-plus years of hammering bits of injected plastic together, I decided it may be time to build my first ever motorcycle. Didn't put any thought in to 'which one', just bought a cheap Tamiya kit, watched a couple of YT build videos and took a brave pill !! Nothing extra added except glue and paint (Tamiya TS51 Racing Blue and my own brew of 'dark silver'). Did I enjoy it ? - well yes, it really did fall together probably because I followed the instructions VERY closely; Will I buy another, erm... perhaps, if I do it will be a racing machine, but which one depends upon whether I can find another cheap - probably Tamiya - kit hereabouts. Feel free to ask any questions, hurl any insults or make any comments. All the very best from New Zealand. Ian.

Been almost a year since my last car build so dragged this one to the bench to re-invigorate any skills that I may have had before diving in to something more exotic / expensive... glad I did as it turns out. Made a bit of a hash of the deepening-out on the front window frame - went through the plastic at one point, also managed to stone-chip the paintwork on the roof when I dropped a tool onto it, and on final-assembly I snapped one of the front axle pins !!. Yep, definitely a six-out-of-ten build. That said, I like the blue (Tamiya X13), it looks very 'period' to my eye, and the car itself looks like it came off the production line yesterday... stunning looking vehicle IMHO. G'day all, I had to go away on a work trip for a few weeks so thought I'd take a kit and some tools with me to keep my sanity. A great kit straight out of the box which made it a fun build as well. Since getting back into modelling around 7 years ago I jumped straight into using an airbrush, however this build was my first brush painted model in over 20+ years. I have a lot of respect for the work that you brush painters do, but since tackling this my respect has increased further. I think I'll stick to my airbrush. Before this build I didn't realise what a mine field USN Dark Blue was (especially with the different ANA blues that have the same number), so I went with Humbrol 77 Navy Blue Matt followed up with some floor polish to get the gloss finish. Looks alright to me and my wife likes the colour too. Following this build I'll try not to get too wrapped up in colours, so I'll finish off my Olive Drab P-40N, move onto some Luftwaffe builds and maybe make a start on a RAAF Foliage Green Spitifre Hope you enjoy!

So I hear you say, zut alors, quell idiot ( pardon my French) how can a German plane designed by a Dutchman even qualify for this GB, well it can if it’s been captured and repainted. Now I said I wouldn’t start any new projects until I had a few less 109s on the bench, but I received the kit the other day from a fellow modeller who has sadly had to give up the hobby owing to declining eyesight. So I thought I’d start it and that to do justice to the build I would also try to ‘superdetail’ the engine and interior. With this as my guide.. I also have a Dragon 1/48 kit started so I may progress this as no copy the detail. So next step is to (possibly) fabricate an interior frame from .5 mm brass…

I know I should really finish one of the five models currently on my workbench, but I felt compelled to start another one...! 😄 This will be a very straightforward build, almost completely OOB with only minor improvements to the kit offering. Talking of which, I know there are various inaccuracies with this kit, but I'm just planning a simple build - no rivet counting on this one! There are some very talented modellers on this website who have already done wonderful things with the various Airfix Canberra kits - I cannot compete with that degree of commitment so I'm just having some fun with this one! To start, here's the box: A £14.99 bargain from Modelzone, many years ago! This is the scheme I will build, a 213 Squadron B(I)6, based at Bruggen in 1969: From other threads, I know this model can be a tail-sitter. The instructions recommend 100g of nose ballast! That seems excessive (I really hope I don't regret saying that) and I have settled on about 75g of rolled up lead on top of the bomb bay, held in place with silicon: The cockpit interior was painted dark grey. I think once it's closed up it will look pretty black. I have also picked out the details on the axe, just in case it can be seen: Work on the cockpit was basic - I suspect the rear two seats will be almost impossible to see once the fuselage is closed up. Here's the current progress: Ejection seat handles were roughly fashioned from a paper clip. Here's the other side, which will be more visible through the open cockpit door: I applied some dry-brushed aluminium to this side, as it might just be seen through the door! This was then glued into position: I intend to close the fuselage up tonight and start the wings.👍
