  1. AVI Models is to release 1/72nd Cessna O-1 Bird Dog kits Source: https://www.avimodels.com/index.php?id_product=40&controller=product&id_lang=1 - ref. AVI72020 - Cessna O-1 Parts V.P.
  2. Roden is to release in 2016 a 1/32nd Cessna L-19/O-1 Bird Dog kit - ref. 619 Source: http://www.frogmodelaircraft.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=323 V.P.
  3. This is my rendition of the vintage Airfix Cessna O-1E Bird Dog. Despite this being an old kit it was a pleasant kit to build. While there were some issues they were mostly self inflicted. The only real issue was the transparencies which were very thick and not very clear. I ended up using 2 kits Pavla interior, control surfaces and wheels. I also used the AOA decal sheet, printed by Microscale. The decal sheet included markings for several US Army, US Air Force, US Marine, and Republic of Vietnam Air Force aircraft so something for every one. The reason for using 2 kits was my attempt to use the Pavla wing control surfaces proved to be a disaster, so I needed a new wing. I did use the Pavla stabilizer. The color was a mix of Humbrol paints. Most pictures show 4 rockets only on the inner 2 pylons, but since I had 2 kits and I did find a picture with 8 I went with a full compliment. Looking at these pictures I just realized I forgot to paint the tail wheel. I'll have to fix that, Next up is Anigrand's Douglas XA2D-1 Skyshark Enjoy.
  4. Exactly one year after my last model, Cessna O-2A Oscar Deuce in 1:48 scale, I’m here again with its older cousin Cessna O-1E Bird Dog in the same scale. Coming from Hasegawa (ModelUsa), it requested a lot of improvements summarized as follow: • Eduard PE set for O-1 (just partly usable); • True Details resin set for O-1 (just partly usable); • Old Airwaves white metal and Plus Model resin figures; • AOA + AeroMaster decals; • Reheat & Eduard PE, copper, brass & styrene for various details; • Rivets & panels remade from ‘positive’ to ‘negative’. Approximately 320 hours of work, from June 2017 to April 2018. Picture of real aircraft taken in Lai Khe (Vietnam) 1966 and found on-line. WiP is here: Cheers, Alex Rome (Italy)
  5. Building MAC's Birddog in 1/32 Scale KLP Publishing Online publishing is now starting to find its way into the modelling community. KLP Publishing is one of the new online publishers, specialising in eBooks for the scale aircraft modelling community. Their debut title Building Brick’s Sabre in 1/32 Scale: A Scale Tribute to K.J. "Brick" Bricknell reviewed here has proved to be a success, and they are now following this up with Building Mac's Briddog in 1/32, a scale tribute to Macaulay "MAC" Cotterell. The book again by Eric Galliers also includes anecdotes from MAC who flew the FAC in Vietnam in 1968. Here he was recommended for the Silver Star, but was awarded the DFC. One of the great aspects of digital publishing is the inclusion of 95 walkaround images from Rob Fox Photography. Conclusion This is the type of publication that the new digital format will embrace. The subject is not main stream enough for a traditional publication. This is clearly a book written by modellers for modellers. The text is clear and concise and the great selection of walkaround pictures crisp. The words from the pilot really do add to the story. It is worth mentioning that the two titles to date focus on the RAAF and this is something again worthy of praise as well. Highly recommended. Review sample courtesy of
