  1. Hi All, after a lot of indecision, I've finally settled on what was my originally-intended subject, that of 44-72199/G4*A flown by Capt Charles Edward Weaver of the 362nd Fighter Squadron out of Leiston. This particular aircraft has a very striking reclining nude for its nose art, although strangely there's no actual name. I had set out to model this aircraft a few years back with Airfix's 1/72 offering and KitsWorld decals, but as so often happens with me and products from Margate, it died a death. So here I am again! This time the kit is Eduard's 1/48 Weekend boxing, which has Chuck Weaver's mount (fnaar!) as one of its provided schemes. This will be a mostly-OOB build (provisos as below), and as such I'll be relying on Eduard's researches for colours and fixtures/fittings. Having said that, I'm not entirely convinced by the reproduction of the voluptuous lady and so I may well fork out for Pyn-Up's set which appears to be much nicer (although check out her shoes!). The KitsWorld set is available in 1/48, too, but also seems slightly "off" with herself's ribcage resembling a toastrack. Anyway, to the pics (as if we don't know what it looks like!): Box art: Instructions: Very useful, looking at all those tiny pieces! My subject: Kit-supplied tiny PE fret and decals, plus a couple of bits of AM: Sprues: Transparencies: I'm slightly disturbed that all three canopies have detached from their feeds.....which is which??? I've assembled the seat, but as it's just a seat, I'll save pics of it till there's something else to show as well Cheers, Mark
  2. I'll jump in with this one if that's ok? Build will be OOB with aftermarket decals for "Impatient Virgin flown by Capt. Victor E. Bocquin, 376th Fighter Squadron, 361st Fighter Group, Academy_P51_C_Box by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Academy_P51_C_contents_1 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Detail looks nice. Academy_P51_C_contents_2 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Academy_P51_C_contents_3 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Thanks for looking and good luck with your builds! Cheers, Dermot
  3. Hi All, As a kid I always wanted the Airfix “Lace” but the nearest I received was their B-24J ( which went together well as I recall. As an early teen in the mid-seventies I first came across Hasegawa at the Model Engineer Exhibition (at Wembley then). I was blown away by the detail (and price) compared to what I was used to. So I only built some of their lovely early US jets which seemed fantastic. I don’t recall seeing the larger kits, though obviously they were around as the kit for this GB is in an A.A.Hales Ltd boxing; the importer of that time. Hasegawa Fortresses seem quite common at shows nowadays, this was £15 which seems to be the going price. I know there’s newer kits by Airfix and Revell, but I expect this one will be more straightforward to build. Hasegawa’s artist was no doubt influenced by Roy Cross… Hopefully all the parts are present, it seems so but I will need to replace the 50cal barrels with wire! My plan is to build OOB, I need to decide whether to reposition the starboard waist gun as “Lace” had the earlier fuselage with opposing positions and this kit has them staggered. Either way my plan is to replicate her well-rogered appearance in the famous colour photos. On that subject, Hasegawa have correctly shown Ms. Lace as a scarlet woman, rather than Airfix’s demure bride! Cheers Will
  4. Don't even ask me how I found this website, but if you love Liberators, and you know who you are, you will love this one! Lots of photos that were new to me and lots that are very well known, I hope you enjoy them. Mike https://b-24.weebly.com/
  5. With my current project coming to an end, I dug up an older kit from my stash. On "order" from she who must be obeyed, I chose the Hasegawa P-51D Mustang "Nose Art". An oldie. Upon opening the box, I discovered that I already started it (not too much though ). But the instructions are missing the blue print on the inside. Since there was no internet then (yes, it is that old), I couldn't proceed then. Started to lay down the green interior layer and the zinc yellow wheel wells. Not sure about the decals, though. What is the quality and how will they hold after all these years? Upon invitation, I decided to add to the Group Build too...
  6. Hello rotorheads, while researching paints for my many models in my stash, I came across this very interesting and cool article about a fellow veteran. She is a former airforce master sergeant, Shayne Meder has been painting SH-60 and other airframes for the last twenty years. Here work can be seen on no less than 50 helos and other aircraft, and may in fact be included as decals on the kits we build. If they don't have her work in decals, they certainly should, she does incredible work! Here is a link to the story https://www.military.com/daily-news/2018/02/25/air-force-vet-uses-military-aircraft-canvas-her-art.html This is her website https://www.flygirlpainters.com/about Follow the links of google image search for even more great pics!
  7. Hi I've just found interesting set of photos with Curtiss C-46 Commando belonging to 4th Combat Cargo Group of USAAF in Burma during WWII. https://www.flickr.com/photos/tresijas/sets/72157630818092194/ You may find eleven serials of C46 serving there: http://www.comcar.org/4th_ComCar/14th_CCS_so317.htm Any idea how to link nose arts with serials? Cheers Jerzy-Wojtek
  8. Hi, Two Fox Moths were impressed to SEAC: MA954 was impressed 31.10.42 and was used by 3rd TAF Communications Sqn, Comilla in .44. Soc 31.7.44. MA955 was impressed 31.10.42 and was used by Bengal CU and later by 3rd TAF Communications Sqn, Comilla. Soc 31.7.44. There are at least two photos in IWM collection showing of one of those machines, they were recently quoted in a topic on this forum on SEAC types http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234976366-india-white-seac-roundels-on-miscellaneous-types/ On the photo of second post there - presenting SEAC Fox Moth - there is something on the engine cover, on right lower corner. I cannot recognize - is it a kind of nose art, or rather this is just a lack of paint? Position of it suggests rather the second option - but perhaps somone knows it better. Second question - the visible national insignia (roundel) on top of the wing has unusual proportion with very small light center. This recll me rather those used by FAA in Indian Ocean area then typical SEAC mark. Is it possible, that it was like FAA one - with white middle, not light blue? Can anoboty help? I am finishing with my Fox Model in this markings.... Regards Jerzy-Wojtek
  9. Hi all, I'd been very keen to get hold of this Auster for quite a while and, at last, I got it a few weeks back I decided to have a little bit of fun with this aircraft so I decided to paint it as a hack aircraft of a 2TAF fighter squadron, lovingly adorned with one or Vargas' pin-up girls as well as an extremely optimistic tally on the nose Construction was reasonably straightforward and offered lots of opportunity for scratch building (I couldn't resist). Though I didn't do any major work to the overall model, I spent a lot of time adding the small details, in my mind it's the small things that make the big difference. Details of additions below pictures. Aerial wires made from fishing line Pitot tube made from wire Steps from thicker wire Handles and counter mass balance from wire IMG_8014_zps113e2a19 by Ben Standen, on Flickr IMG_8015_zps438bc286 by Ben Standen, on Flickr IMG_8017_zpse127c066 by Ben Standen, on Flickr IMG_8018_zps38304ca7 by Ben Standen, on Flickr IMG_8019_zps41d51250 by Ben Standen, on Flickr IMG_8023_zps9ea9042a by Ben Standen, on Flickr IMG_8024_zps3e302219 by Ben Standen, on Flickr IMG_8026_zpsa46546af by Ben Standen, on Flickr The pin up was home printed then applied over a white background before carefully painting the dark earth around it. Thanks for looking! Ben
  10. Hello fellow modelers, I am looking for the colors of the nose art of a B-17F that crashed in the Netherlands, near the town of Zegveld, in february 1944. The plane was named San Antonio Rose, and the nose art depicts a girl with a lasso, which wraps around the two nose windows on the port side. I have a b/w picture... We are building a model of this particular B-17 for a memorial display on May 15-16, so any help regarding the colors would be greatly appreciated! Regards, René
