  1. Dora Wings is to release 1/72nd Noorduyn C-64 Norseman kits - ref. Would maybe proposed later in the 1/48th scale. Fingers crossed. Source: https://www.facebook.com/dorawingsofficial/posts/2961098897454001 3D renders V.P.
  2. I'm going to build a pair of bush planes operated in Papua New Guinea in the 60s. At that time PNG was administered by Australia and there were several Australian operators flying there. Air travel is still essential in PNG - it's the only way to get to some towns and villages, even the capital (Port Moresby) isn't connected to any other town by road. Hence light STOL transport types are essential - when I briefly visited PNG for work a few years ago there were far more of these, and helicopters, at the airport than there were airliners. First up will be a Qantas DHC-3 Otter using the Hobbycraft 1/72 kit and Hawkeye decals: The other one will be an Ansett-MAL Noorduyn Norseman. Decals for this one will be custom-printed: The 'MAL' in Ansett-MAL is Mandated Airlines - this was an independent operator in PNG for quite a long time until it was taken over by Ansett in 1961. It operated quite a mix of aircraft including the DC-3, Bristol 170, Piaggio 166, Cessna 336 and Caribou, and there are a couple of these in Ansett-MAL colours at the Queensland Air Museum, but no Norseman unfortunately. I've made a start on the Otter - a bit of basic assembly but nothing worth photographing yet. More soon. cheers Julian
  3. Here's my Matchbox Norseman, finished as VH-GSE of Ansett-MAL, which operated it in Papua New Guinea in the '60s. Built OOB, decals custom printed. This was built for the Australia and New Zealand Group Build, build thread is here. thanks for looking Julian
  4. I only recently spotted the Matchbox GB, and sent a quick message to see if it was too late to join in - it wasn't! The model was started only two weeks ago, and the GB isn't the only deadline, as the model is a present for my dad's birthday later in February, so it's a fairly quick build. He's always had a soft spot for the Norseman ever since we built a semi-scale 1/6 scale R/C version back in 1993 as a large trainer for him. That model was used in a TV program about Glenn Miller around 2001. This kit is the later re-box of the original kit. I built the original as a child back in the late 1970's or early 80's. I'm planning on mounting the model in a 3D picture frame to wall hang, though the supplier is out of stock so I may be pushing it to get the model framed by the end of the GB, but it will I hope be framed by my dad's birthday. This is a rough graphic of how I plan to model to look when complete.
  5. Hi, On 15th December 1944 a fameous jazzman and band leader, Glenn Miller, was suppouse to fly from London to Paris, to give a concert there. His orchestra was already there and during a WWII his band was a music star of a first brightness. He came on board of Noorodyun Norseman UC 64 A, they started - and .... dissappeared! Never reached the destination. There were spectulations what happend - were they shot down by a German intruder? Did they crash due to machine failure or due to poor weather and iceing of machine? Recently, it is rather consider that they were hit by bomb released over the Channel by Lancasters, which were returned home due to bad weather condition from a mission without bombing any target. Many links can be given here, if you want to read more. http://www.cpr.org/news/story/70-years-later-mystery-glenn-millers-disappearance-may-be-solved http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2083068/Sighting-Glenn-Millers-doomed-plane-amateur-spotter-shatters-theory-aircraft-downed-falling-WWII-bomb.html http://skeptoid.com/episodes/4406 The markings are of exactly this machine (the serial 470285 I found in Net) , but it is only a most likely look of her. I have not found a photos of it. Since it was December 1944 she shoud have overpainted D-Day strips from the top. The kit is from Revell, originally Matchbox. Few details added. Regards and comments welcomed Jerzy-Wojtek
