I've had the mini-files and the drills out so next up, a squadron of Austrian Uhlans from Newline designs. These little chappies look pretty good with the primer on. The excellent detail in the casting promises a fun time painting. I'll decide on the regiment later as the only uniform difference of the three ( prior to 1814) Austrian regiments was the colour of the Czapka

I've now completed the figures carrying the regimental flags. The plastic on these is not exactly conducive to a obtaining a decent finish when carving lumps off but they'll do, they add a bit of colour to the set These are Officers and NCOs that I'd consigned to the spares box so I wasn't losing any of the figures already allocated to roles. The easiest conversion is to just exchange the flag standards for the halberds that the set NCOs are carrying but I didn't want to lose the halberds. Regiments, left to right; Prinz Xavier / Prinz Frederick August / von Niesemeuschel / von Sanger Regiments, left to right; Prinz Maximillian / Prinz Anton / von Thümmel / von Low That Grenadier Officer definitely looks like Lee Marvin, especially with the grey hair and 'tache.

I've tidied him up a bit and added some metal to the horse harness so I suppose he's done. You know when people put coins in the shot to show scale and you've absolutely no idea the size of the coin they've used? Two can play at that game.

I was preparing to start painting today and this po-faced individual rode up and demanded to be brought forward in the queue. Not wanting to disappoint an Officer I immediately stuck a 0.9mm drill bit up his rear and sat him on a cocktail stick. He arrived as a Regimental Colonel so I've promoted him to a General Staff Officer, that'll teach him The state of play so far is He's actually wearing red trousers, just that his coat isn't turned back. BTW that isn't blood on the cocktail stick, it's off his red trousers

These have been in the stash for a while so it's time to give them an airing. I've had the files out so they look pretty clean now. The Bosch screwdriver and a 0.9mm drill did the necessary deed despite a bit of screaming and the odd curse (In French). I've no idea why they made such a fuss It looks like I'll be having fun making pennants and the regimental flag. At the moment the intention is to go for the 6th Regiment but anything can happen before the paint hits the figures

I've finally decided to stop touching these up (paint wise that is ). They'll do provided I don't magnify them too much so OK in one of the wall cabinets. I think my favourite bit on these are the buckles and fasteners on the carbine strap. Unfortunately I haven't taken a photo of those so you'll just have to imagine how well they came out

Some time ago I decided to take eight figures from the Revell set 2578 British Life Guards and paint them as Blues and Royals.The horses selected from the set had a lot of extra plastic moulded on so they all had to be recarved, an annoying necessity. They were primed (brushed on black) them given a chocolate brown coat and then inked over black. This gave a very dark brown finish to further play with. I painted the sheepskin a sheepy colour and tried to give some semblance of a shabraque but failed miserably. At this point I just happened to fall upon the information that the Italeri set 6080 French Light Cavalry had the problem of too many shabraques and not enough sheepskins. I dug out a set of these from the stash and selected eight of the horses.. They looked ok to go, the Revell figures fit but the hiorses' tails were too long. I cropped one of the horse tails ( Left) and reshaped the end and it looked reasonable so continued. They don't look too bad. Here's the comparison with a Revell horse The Revell horses now have a new home in an Italeri box and the Italeri horses are set to have Revell riders. Primed Now to get on with the riders.

This is the Encore kit and it needs a good amount of TLC to get it into shape. There's a good amount of sink marks and flash that need attention, but after some elbow grease and some serious clamping, it turned out alright. It's in a nice clean condition as I built it for dad and he's not a fan of weathering. It now sits in his study.

I don't do RFIs very often but I'm pleased that I've finished this and its turned out not too bad. A couple of Airfix 54mm figures, some scratch building and some parts from the spares drawers. A Royal Marine Sergeant, circa 1805

The first two are 54mm white metal figures: The third will be from the recent ICM French Infantry 1914 set, in 1/35 scale.... I did figures frequently when in my teens, but have done only one in recent years, so I expect a learning curve. The ICM set, in fact, I view as being practice of a sort for the metal figures, but I intend to get at least one decent figure out of the lot of four. The Dragoon (of a line regiment) is billed as in campaign dress, but is not really. I am probably going to do it as a different regiment, one with yellow facings rather than pink ones. The Voltigeur sergeant is of the voltigeur company of a line battalion, not of a voltigeur regiment. As was common for the skirmishers in Spain, he has discarded his outer coat, and is wearing only the waist-coat. It will be a little while before I can start in earnest, as I have two biplanes going in the Lesser-Built Air Forces GB here, that must be finished before the end of April, and are only about half-done at present.
