  1. Hi All, Just completed my Salvinos JR 1/24th scale NASCAR Toyota Camry TRD stock car, with decals for Tyler Reddick's 'The Beast Unleashed' Hard Monster 6.0% scheme that was run at select events this past NASCAR Cup Series season. This is my first completed NASCAR model since 2001, and the first Salvinos JR model kit I've built. I learned a lot of things that will be applied to the next Salvinos JR NASCAR kit I build, which will be another Beast Unleashed car- specifically Riley Herbst's White Haze-schemed Mustang he drove in the fall Talladega race. The paint is Tamiya TS-14 gloss black, which was decanted and airbrush, wetsanded smooth, and then clearcoated with Testors Lacquer Glosscote (after the decals were applied). For the graphics, I used a 3 Amigos Decal set, which comprised of two sheets- one that had the neon green graphics which needed to be applied over white underlays, and the second sheet had the main graphics, including the impressive eye graphic for the hood. Decals from a Powerslide Modern Stock Cars Goodies set were used for items like the windshield film tear-off tabs, inspection sticker, weight jack location markers, etc. Work in progress thread here- Thanks for looking. Cheers, Albert
  2. Dale Earnhardt, seven times Winston Cup champion, was best known for his uncompromising driving style and black Goodwrench sponsored cars but for the 1998 The Winston all star race at Charlotte Motor Speedway his car more a special one off livery of gold and black with additional sponsorship from Bass Pro Shops, a retailer of fishing, hunting and camping equipment. Unfortunately his race only lasted nine laps as, along with John Andretti he crashed out after skidding on some fluid dropped by the car of Darrell Waltrip. P1050844 by timothy jones, on Flickr I'm hoping that the decals will be OK but there were two sheets in the box so at least I have some spares if I need them. P1050852 by timothy jones, on Flickr I should be hitting the track soon. Boogity Boogity Boogity. 😀
  3. Finished these two this morning: The 'gold' one is Revells' 1999 (slab-side) Chevy Monte Carlo built almost straight from the box, I lowered the ride-height about 1.5mm as I do with all my NASCAR builds. The decals are from Powerslide, printed by Cartograf these decals are just about the best for automotive modellers transfers available. Perfect register no translucence at all. The 'orange' one is again a Revell kit and again built as it comes except for the ride-height. It's the 2000/03 Ford Taurus, this time with JWTBM decals. Both models are painted with Tamiya acrylics, both aerosol - straight from the rattle-can - & jar colours. * * * 1999 Skoal Chevy Monte Carlo driven by Ken Schraeder. Raced in these colours in just four races in the '99 season - there were also a metallic green, metallic blue and (usual) metallic green schemes. AFAIK these four beautiful schemes were used because this was Skoal's last NASCAR Winston Cup season - I believe they have returned in recent years, but I'm not certain. 2001 Tide Ford Taurus driven by Ricky Craven. Regular racing colours (there were specials), one of the brightest and most recognised liveries in all of NASCAR. As ever thanks for taking the time to look and/or comment. Please feel free to make any criticism or ask any questions. Already on with my next two car projects (the Porsche 911 GT1 & LaFerrari), and well in to planning for my next NASCAR build. AFN Ian.
  4. Built for the Revell/Monogram 'Campaign' (Group Build) over at www.modelersalliance.com this is a limited reissue of Monograms 90/93 bodied NASCAR Thunderbird, the kit comes with a slew of Alan Kulwicki memorobilia. I replaced the kit decals with the much better ones from Mike Herman/Powerslide, otherwise it's an 'out of the box' build. As ever please feel free to make any comments, criticisms or ask any questions. Thanks for looking. Ian.
  5. Another NASCAR build finished today. So why the title ? - couple of years back I posted three NASCAR builds in quick succession - Keefr22 was very complimentary and we chatted about NASCAR modelling (as you do). Next thing is, Keith has bagged-up and sent a whole slue of unused and very rare AM decal sheets all the way down here to New Zealand without asking for any payment but asking that I promise to 'put them to good use'. Just now I'm really in to race-car modelling in general and NASCAR building in particular so it was easy to keep my promise and here's the first of 'Keith's builds'. Dale Earnhardt Jnr. raced a couple of times in the Winston Cup '99 season but his first full rookie year was 2000. This is his 2000 car from the Revell kit, painted as usual with Tamiya acrylic straight from the rattle-can (the interior is Xtracolour enamels). After two brushed, yes brushed coats of Johnsons Klear, I applied the excellent JWTBM decals and sealed them with another two coats of Johnsons. I'll wax polish the model in a few days once it is fully dried/cured. Finished just in-time for a competition here on Armistice weekend (same as the Telford Nationals). Thanks for taking the time to look and/or comment, please feel free to ask any questions or make any criticism. My sincere thanks to Keith for the decals and I will be doing another 'Keith Car' very soon. AFN Ian.
  6. Kit - Monogram 1:24 Paint - Bodyshell: Tamiya acrylic aerosol. Internals & Chassis: Tamiya acrylic, Tamiya & Humbrol enamels. Decals - Kit Extras - None Of course, straight after taking the photos, I realised that I'd forgotten to fix the exhaust pipes, but they're attached now. Another great NASCAR kit from Monogram back-in-the-day, thouroughly enjoyed every minute of this project and already got the next one on the bench... BIG demands on my time just now (I'm working at the FIFA U20 World Cup for the next couple of weeks), plus the day job, plus the whole 'house husband' thing... Who knows when the next model will arrive here at Britmodeller. In the meantime, thanks for taking the time to look and/or comment. AFN Ian.
  7. I appreciate that NASCAR projects aren't too plentiful here on Britmodeller, but I thought I'd post my current build anyway: Started this around eight weeks back, it's a typical Revell/Monogram late 1990's kit, with quite soft detail and thick plastic, a generic chassis/cage/suspension and engine, just the bodyshell, transparencies and cowl over the dashboard are unique. So here's where I began: With the air-dam glued in-place and filled/sanded, I sprayed a couple of coats of Xtracolour ADC Grey on the insides, then masked the window appertures and shot a coat of Tamiya acrylic grey primer straight from the rattle-can. I then rubbed that back with fine grade wet'n dry and lots of water so it was glassy smooth. I then took a new bottle of Tamiya acrylic lemon yellow, added a couple of tiny drops of orange to warm the tone a little and airbrushed three medium coats. A week later I rubbed it back again and applied to heavy cats of good old Humbrol Gloss-Cote: With that all done, it went into the cabinet to dry/cure and I made a start on the chassis/cage etc. (In the pics it's sitting on the rolling chassis of the Kellogg's Chevy I posted here a couple of weeks back). Stay tuned. Ian.
  8. Kit - Monogram 1:24 Paint - Body: Tamiya aerosol acrylic. Chassis & internals: Tamiya acrylics, Humbrol & Tamiya enamels. Decals - Slixx Extras - A couple of litres of Micro-Sol and lots of foul language . The decals over the nose fractured and tore even as I was taking them out of the water, so there's a LOT of effort gone in to making it to the checkered flag with this project. It will pass inspection at more than 1m (US = 1 yard), but less than that and it will scream 'decal fail' very loudly. As ever all comments, criticism and questions welcome. Thanks for taking the time to look. Ian.
  9. Kit - 1:25 AMT/Ertl Paint - Body & chassis, Tamiya acrylic. Engine & details, Tamiya, Humbrol & Xtracolour enamels. Decals - Kit. Extras - None This was started in November 2012 and sent to the 'Shelf of Forgetfulness' when I scr*w*d-up the soft edge demarcation between the red/yellow and white on the nose, and it stayed there until three weeks ago after a chat about car modelling in general and NASCAR modelling in particular between a few of us on another (US based) site. Well here it is three weeks after that exchange and I'm quite pleased with the result. Make no mistake, this was always going to be a 'cabinet sitter', it'll never see a competition table and the nearest model club is an hours' flight away. No, this is my way to re-learn those very particular skills needed for NASCAR kits, and that-in-mind, this wee thing is 100% perfect. As ever, thanks for taking the time to look, please be free with any criticisms, questions or comments. AFN. Ian.
  10. This is my just complete nascar that i only started as a time filler and for something to get me painting again after a couple of months of doing nothing. I originally intended for this to take a week or so but total time has been more like 3 weeks For those who read through the wip i was not very complementary of the kit for fit and just the common sense of how it goes together and the decals were naff but i have to blow my own horn as i am very happy with how it has turned out I had to make my own windows for the car as either i lost the ones for the kit or they were not in there to start with, honestly for my first attempt at scratch making windows i am happy but i now know how to improve the method if I ever need to do it again So here is the car I had to give it a raced look to hide the poor areas of the decals In this next pic i have wiped away the muck from the drivers side to simulate what a pit member would do in a stop I am also really happy with how the wheels have turned out, i will be using the same effect on future builds now Thanks for looking and if you spot anything you think i could of done better let me know Shaun
  11. 1997 Ford Thunderbird NASCAR #94 Driven by Bill Elliott Sponsored by McDonalds Started this one some time ago and had to put it away for a while as frustration levels grew. Finally getting it finished a couple of weekends ago. Just the one photo as its a build for a well known on-line magazine and is due to be appearing as a complete build soon.
  12. This will be my build in the Buddy Build. Sorry I won't be able to show too much of the build as I'm making a review build out of it for a publication. (As long as I don't turn it into a pile of ) I'm just waiting on replacement decals arriving from the US as the kit ones are a little old and thick.
  13. This is the Joe Gibbs Racing Team #18 Chevy Lumina driven by Dale Jarrett and sponsored by Interstate Batteries. The car made its debut in 1992 and was Joe Gibb's first foray into the Nascar circuit after being one of the Greatest NFL coaches of all time taking the Washington Redskins to 3 Super Bowl wins. He is in the Football Hall of Fame. He is still in Nascar today.
