  1. Hi all, As the title suggests I am thinking of building one of DeHavilland's finest for my next project and would very much like to do an aircraft operated by me local auxiliary unit which is 605 squadron. Okay, that should be fairly easy I hear you say as there are even decals available, and here is where I have decided to make matters more difficult for myself. I would ideally like to build an FB.VI that was also built locally to be at Standard Motors on their Ansty site as I used to work on that site for Rolls Royce, this means building an aircraft with a serial number in the HP, HR, RF or TE range. I also know that 605 did operate several from these batches such as HR205, HR338, HR349 and TE809 but I can't for the life of me find any pictures of these aircraft in service so that I can accurately reproduce them in model form, and while I know the standard scheme for the Mozzie some of the unit's aircraft had black painted undersides and/or forms of nose art or names on them so I was hoping that some of the vastly knowledgeable membership might either know of such information or be able to at least point me in the right direction. Many thanks in advance. Craig.
  2. I'm looking into the alleged crash of a Beaufighter in or just out side of Knowle (West Midlands) in March 1943 involving a Beaufighter, possibly from 96 squadron based at nearby RAF Honiley so hoping some one may be able to help as I can find no local records of the incident. Foolishly I've undertaken to build a model of said aircraft for the local village museum/library but have hit a bit of a dead end so hoping some one can help or point me in the right direction? Pat.
  3. Sorry I’m late, but various things in life have reduced my modelling time, well that and trying to finish a couple of long-term builds. Here we go, for this GB I’ll be doing an Airfix Mosquito B.XVI. Here is the box (with the PR.XVI kit in the Recce GB) And here are the main parts (drying in the sunshine as I took the precaution of giving everything a good wash after my experience with the PR.XVI) And here are some of the parts from both kits with some RAF interior green applied Finally, a bit of construction underway, the B is on the right in the lighter grey plastic (thank goodness that Airfix moulded in different colours or disaster would have been inevitable 😄) That’s it for now, hopefully back soon with some more progress.
  4. My entry for the GB will be the Tamiya 1/72 De Havilland Mosquito PR Mk.IV I usually build 1/35 AFV's, but have dabbled in a couple of aircraft over the last 6 months. This will only be my 4th aircraft build since my return to the hobby, so i will be keeping it simple. Never built a Tamiya aircraft so hoping it will be as good as their AFV's. The PRU blue will certainly brighten up my somewhat (olive) drab display cabinet 🙂 George
  5. Here’s my just completed model built from the newly released Airfix kit. It’s like the curate’s egg: good, in parts. I fixed the incorrect aft bomb bay fairing with some styrene rod, and I appreciated the mask parts provided for the wheel wells. The cockpit and bomb bay are well detailed for the scale too. But … the kit is let down by the transparencies. The nose cheek windows would be a foot thick in real life and the main canopy framing lacks finesse. I’ve been building a Tamiya B.Mk.IV alongside this one and the clear parts are far superior. Still, it’s a big improvement on the Matchbox kit and I’m mostly happy with the finished model.
  6. Hello all; I can’t resist the PR lure again and this one offers the opportunity to combine that with my favourite aircraft, the simply beautiful Mosquito. This will likely be an out-of-box build of this interesting kit, though I’m quite sure I’ll end up down some rabbit hole or other as I go, it’s the nature of my builds... So, to the kit, it’s this one... ...it is an interesting one with new and old parts, raised and engraved surface details. Its reputation isn’t great - challenge accepted. The start... ...the cockpit is on its way but not yet finished. Those that have followed other builds of mine know cockpits are not my favourite part of the process but I try and make a reasonably decent job of it. On this one I tried something new on the instrument panel; there’s no decal so I painted it black and then scribed some instrument details with a pin, and then a drop of clear gloss to simulate glass. I quite like how it turned out, though there’s still some colour detailing to add on that, and other details too. Thanks for reading, cheers! Mark..
  7. This is the second Tamiya 1/48th scale Mosquito I built when they were first released. The first one I built was the FB Mk VI version. This is the Tamiya Mosquito B Mk.IV released in 1999. Painted with Aeromaster acrylic paint. The decals were supplied with the kit and are 109 Squadron markings. Thank you for looking, Joe Link to FB Mk VI http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234984216-banff-strike-wing-mosquito/
