  1. Well, here we go with the brand new, all singing, all dancing Spitfire from Airfix. No out of box review or anything like that. Just get on with building the damn thing I'm building it as the BBMF MkIX serial MK356, when it was painted in the colours of Sqn Ldr "Johnny" Plagis. So it'll be a bit of a hybrid, coded 5J-K but with a serial of MK356 not ML214. I was seriously considering doing it in NMF but I bottled it...and I'm a sucker for invasion stripes. I've taken a few engine bits off of the sprues while I'm finishing my Lancaster build and I've got to be honest, the fits aren't as good as the HK kit but the detail is stunning. I'm not rushing because as of now, there's no Airscale IP available. I asked Peter at Airscale and he said Airfix didn't make any details available to anyone pre launch so he's looking at 8 weeks min to get a product to market. As he says: "it is frustrating". Still, there's plenty to go at with the engine alone while I wait. Should be starting this build in earnest at the weekend. Thanks for looking in til then
  2. Hi folk's, we have a victory! A glint of sunshine has caught the edges of the modelling desk,or rather I've managed to finish a kit in what has been a pitifull year model wise.Revell's Mkix in a post war Russian scheme worn in their last years of service, not too heavy on the weathering and managed not to ruin the white flash and rudder number which came as mask's in the decal set.Build log here. https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235098109-revell-mkix-spitfire-in-soviet-colours/ Many thank's for taking the time to look.
  3. Hi all This is my new finish build: an Eduard Spitfire MkIXc I can't back on the quality of this kit I have made some mistake due to a bad read of notice I use the wrong wing and I forced to use the long air intake I forgot to glue a part in the wheels bay. This part is use to glue the wheel leg on the wheel bay. I spent some swearwords when I try to add the legs But except these little problem, it is a superb kit for the one of the most beautifull plane of entire WWII And another pics in the link bellow Supermarine Spitfire MkIXc
  4. This summer's project was to be a Seafire double build but I somehow find myself about to go back to work without any modelling done at all. Instead the garden is much tidier and the bathroom completely redecorated but not even a little bit of sticking or painting of plastic bits. So a few days ago as compensation I decided to get something out of the pile that I could put together quickly and without too much trouble. I received this Spitfire as a surprise gift a while back and thought it would be ideal for my purposes. A Spitfire in Johnny Johnson markings and D Day stripes. I'll build this straight out of the box. Perfect. Construction starts with the cockpit as usual but hold on, this doesn't have one. That doesn't matter, no-one will see it and this is a quick build, we'll come back to it later. Firstly, I need to do something about this. Those bumps will have to go so out with the scalpel and sanding stick . . . a bit of primer . . . and that will do. This is a quick build, must be quick.
  5. Having built a 1:48 MKIX T only a few months ago I was asked to build another, which I was very honored to do. The aircraft in question was MJ627 from the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar which offers flights to those that can afford to pay for it! MJ627 is aWWII vetran that flew as a single seat aircraft with 441Sqn RCAF with at least one confrimed ME109 kill, it was later converted into a twin seat MKIX and after a colourful career now offers an amazing experience from the famous Biggin Hill. Having taken on the challenge I decided that I would like one of these builds for my own collection. Using the 1:48 Hasegawa MKIX to fir the Brigade Models resin conversion set, along with Eduard PE and HSL fabric seatbelts I started the build. To make things abit more interesting I decided to build the aircraft in its two liveries since being with the Heritage Hangar, one pre- crash 9G P and one post crash 9G Q. Like any resin conversion there are always some fit issues, but I have to say that the Brigade set is superb and fits with the donor kit with minimal fuss if you are willing to spend time and patience preping and fitting before assembly. I painted both aircraft in Vallejo Air and washes and finsihed with a matt cote. Some of the steeley eyed amongst youmay notice that it appears that the wheel bay doors are on the wrong way round..fear not, after extensive research and looking at many photos I can assure you they are not. I have yet to have an explanation why they are set the opposite way round, but they are. I really enjoy building these kits and to have one in my collection now (9G P) is very exciting!
  6. Hi everyone ! This is my last completed model . The italeri kit is not that good but it gives a good model if you spent some time on it . Painted with AKAN ( the two greys ) and Gunze ( for the green ) . Weathering with artists oils . Hope you like it !!! 7. Well I have decided to do a second kit alongside the first if that's okay? My original choice was to make the 1/72 Airfix MkII Spitfire kit - which I still intend to. However I picked up the dreaded* Italeri 1/72 MkIX Spitfire on Monday and, as it was only £5.99 from the Ian Allen shop in Birmingham, I thought I could do both kits together for this group build. I already had some ideas for improving the cockpit of the Airfix kit and now, having seen the complete lack of detail on the sides of the MkIX, I felt I could work on them at the same time to make them better. * I am aware of most modellers' feelings about this kit! ... But it looks nice in the box and I fancy a challenge! Not done much yet apart from give the parts a wash in warm soapy water. Box, sprue, decals and instructions photos: This one shows the complete lack of detail on the cockpit sides: Hopefully I will get started on at least one of the kits tomorrow. Kind regards, Stix
  8. Supermarine Spitfire MkIX and MkXIV Quickboost 1:48 Here we have another set of add-on parts from Quickboost who seem to be on a bit of a mission lately. Two of these sets are for the Eduard Spitfire MkIX and the third is for the Academy Spitfire MkXIV. Each part is a direct replacement for the kit parts giving a finer level of detail to the finished model. Each is packed in the standard poly sleeves and are relatively well protected by projections from the casting blocks. Spitfire MkIX Bulkheads (QB 48 528), or armoured plates are extremely thin and look quite fragile. They are simply detailed with just a few bolt heads and mounting holes. The plate that sits behind the pilots head also has the slot through which the seat harness fits. Spitfire MkIX Cockpit Door (QB 48 538) is also quite thin, but has some very finely done strengthening stringers and a nicely moulded latching mechanism. The set also comes with a separate crowbar to fit as necessary. Spitfire MkXIV Exhausts (QB 48 5541), contains two very nicely moulded round exhaust stacks. Each stack is suitably hollow with very thin sidewalls giving a really good scale look. The stacks are moulded onto a common rail which fits directly into the kits aperture. Conclusion Three very simple and easily fitted parts that should help give a better scale look to the completed model. Recommended. Review samples courtesy of distributed in the UK by Hannants Ltd.
