  1. So in a recent thread in stgb spitfires, I started talking about other types of spitfire I would like to build. Im looking for absolutely anything on the following spitfire. (log book info, Sqn records, pictures, pilots notes, evidence etc. etc.) Info from Morgan and Shacklady. Spitfire ES127, Mk Vc KJ-I (j has angle / lower part, top part flat/horizontal. I has hat and tails, like a Roman numeral. Could in fact be KJ-1) (According to colour profile) Light stone/Dark earth Azure blue. Red spinner & big chin..... (2nd seat forward of pilot using what looks like a standard spitfire front glazing unit.) Pilot would be seated on top of lower tank? Top tank removed. ES127, 39 MU 10-11-42, 82 MU 27-11, emp Clive 11-12-42 Tak 23-2-43, NA 30-11-43 261 Sqn second cockpit install Catania Sicily 1944 SOC 9-20-47 -------------------- Maintenance Unit. Empire Clive? Was a cargo ship. TaKoradi? Is in Ghana? North Africa Squadron Struck Off Charge --------------------- Thank you.
  2. Hello again, As I'm sure a couple of you know, I have one hell of a passion for Spitfire's (particularly XIV's). And for the last couple years I've almost exclusively built Spitfires, all 25 of them in total (more than one a month!). So after my most recent diorama decided to finish the final two kits I have left before starting a civilian De Havilland collection of the Golden Era! One thing to note; usually I spend a week or two getting one model done and spend a lot of time scratchbuilding extras, getting every single detail right. These two I decided I wouldn't get hung up on accuracy or try to make them 100% perfect, I decided just to relax and enjoy the builds. I'm rambling again. The penultimate Spitfire I finished is Airfix's Pr XI in 1/72 (Cross kitted IX and XIX). Painted as it was in the 1948 air races, owned by the US Civil Air Attache to London and flown by ex ATA pilot Lettice Curtis. It's depicted in flight beside my ATA Anson diorama. And my FINAL Spitfire build is Airfix's new tool Mk.I (I just had to finish with the beautiful Mk I). Thanks to everyone who's complimented my Spitfires over the past couple years, and thanks to everyone at BM for improving my modelling! Here's a couple pics to show how much I've improved since joining BM 2012 2014 Well, I guess this is the final Spitfire RFI I'll make for a while! I hope I can still keep you all interested with my upcoming Moth collection Cheers, Ben.
  3. Hi all, Over the summer I did a lot of reading as I was recovering from an operation, one of the books I read was Tom Neil's - The Silver Spitfire. It tells the story of Neil working with the US and how he came to own the Silver Spitfire as well as how it became silver. Without giving any more away, this diorama is of an incident that occurred upon arrival in France. A bit about the diorama before pics. I was originally going to do a usual diorama with the pilot stood outside looking at the mess he made. However, I liked the look of the slate that is the base so much I thought it'd look just as nice without the grass. I tried my hand at scratch building the flaps, open canopy and cockpit detail. The flaps are made out of plastic and thin bits of wire. Overall I'm pleased as I got this model for only the price of the P&P because I used Airfix Flying Hours. Furthermore I started building this at 10 last night and finished at miday today. So I only spent a few hours on it. Anyway, enough of my rambling... Comments and criticism welcome as always Ben.
