  1. Hasegawa 1/72 Mitsubishi F-2B DXM decal set "JASDF Matsushima A.B. Viper Zero Anniversay set. JASDF Mitsubishi F.2B 21.Sqn 30th Anniversary Matsushima A.B. 2006 Wolfpack update set - seamless intake wheel bays & exhaust. Pavla ACES2 seats. MrColor JASDF paint set. Half way through building this researching the airframe, I found that this aircraft crashed. No fatalities, but I think the first F-2 crash but the second model I've built this year which crashed. My other build earlier this year, the Czech MiG-21UM crashed as well.
  2. I have really no idea why I’m starting this one, other than it gives me an excuse to start another series of future projects……. and I blame @helios16v for this!! I have a few JASDF aircraft in the stash and have recently found some amazing digital schemes for the F-15J an F-4EJ Kai (both I have in the stash…sort of for the F-4EJ), so digital decals sets have been ordered for both. I have never thought of building a F-2A but @helios16v as always has led me astray and I’m off down the rabbit hole..... not that that is hard to do! The model was from Japan and actually really cheap as well….. the crumpled box was a free extra!! Luckily everything was all ok inside. The decal I found on the DXM site….along with plenty of others….they’re on the way too!! I would have loved to have had these in mask form, but looking at them I might have been a bit much for even my sanity, so decals it is. I may need to raid the spares box for weapons, as usual Hasegawa don’t supply anything other than tanks and AAM’s. There is no guarantee this will be completed in this build, but it will be for sure over the coming months.
  3. Prior to our trip to Hyakuri for the base's open house we travelled south to Tsuiki which houses two squadrons of Mitsubishi F2s - nos. 6 & 8. For anyone with a particular interest in the F2 there is an article on it in this month's edition of Combat Aircraft magazine. The crowd was allowed entry to the base but entry to the apron was restricted by a rope line until 8am followed by a made scramble to the crowd line. The show wrapped up at around 3pm. The flying was fairly restricted in terms of quantity but what it lacked in this regard was more than made up for by quality. The US F16 put on a stunning display of raw power and low level flying the like of which I don't think I've ever seen from an American aircraft at a show while a pair of the home based F2s would have given the flying display police from the MAA/CAA multiple heart attacks. From take off they immediately pulled into a series of high speed, low level 360 degree turns and low passes over the crowd. I hope some of the images below convey a sense of their display. While they wouldn't have won any prizes for technical merit as might be seen at Fairford for example, for sheer noise and spectacle not to mention thrilling the crowd then it I regard it as the most exciting display that I have ever seen. 1. I think this was a planned demonstration of the base's fire fighting capability. 36. 37. 38. 39. End of the day departure. That's it, thanks for looking.
