  1. Hello fellow modellers, welcome to my first WIP! The kit I’m working on is a Revell 1/32 Mirage III: This was a surprise Christmas present from my wife, I hadn’t built a single model for over 30 years! So, I was to build this shiny Mirage, but to be honest it didn’t quite appeal to me. Of course, its livery is splendid… …but I never saw this particular jet ‘in the wild’. The decal set offered two alternatives, an Australian version… …and a French Mirage IIIRD: In 1984 I visited Gilze-Rijen airbase to witness the NATO Tactical Air Meet, which was an impressive event with masses of different aircraft types and numbers, like Canadian Starfighters, RAF Jaguars and Phantoms, USAFE F-4s and F-15s, Belgian F-16s and Mirages, German F-4s, and French Jaguars and... Mirage IIIRDs! One of these Mirages was Mirage IIIRD 368/33-TQ: To keep the memory of this exercise alive I decided to build this particular reconnaissance jet. I joined britmodeller.com in January 2021, but I never intended to start a WIP because I was quite intimidated by the high skills and superb results by most of you lot. However, @The Spadgent appeared to build a similar kit, check... ...and he and @81-er encouraged me to show some of my progress, too. So, here I go! First an overview of my desk, with the supplies spread out to give you an idea: Documentation (the upper photo was taken during TAM 1984 too, by a good friend of mine): Aftermarket stuff: And what I've done so far. The manual warns for the danger of tail sitting for the E and O version, but to be safe I added a redundant nut to avoid this for the RD version too.   2. Modelsvit has apparently released a fairly nice Mirage IIIE, which I understand was the basis for the RAAF's IIIO. How similar are the two types? Could a IIIO be built from the IIIE kit? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Due to the pandemic and lot of problems at work , my production is at its lowest level....anyway...i enjoyed this kit. hope you like it. add ons are a Sparkit ejection seat, some PE from EDUARD, and the Reskit nozzle ( a pure wonder ). i did a light riveting.   5. Hi guys! Here's my next project, Italeri's Mirage IIIE with aftermarket decals to paint it as an Argentinian machine. The decals I'll be using are Condor Decals 48054. The Italeri kit comes with the extended fairing for the empennage as a not for use piece, but I'll use it to make this kit as a IIIEA. I'll be painting this aircraft as I-007. I'll also be my first three coloured camouflage aircraft. Paints to be used will be RLM 79, 71 and 70 for the upper surfaces, and white for the lower surfaces. I'll be picking up the kit this Friday, so pics of the contents will be posted on Friday's afternoon. Photo of the real machine. As you can see, it doesn't have the yellow rudder shown in the profile of the decal sheet.
  6. 1/48 HobbyBoss Mirage III Armee De L air, Dijon-Longivc, 1970. Vallejo acrylics and wash, Testors Gloss coat, aftermarket Neo resin cockpit and MB Mk 4 Seat and Eduard RBFT. A pair of shaky hands and weak eyes!!!!
  7. Hi comrades! Here is my next NMF project. IAF Mirage #45. This fighter is special because his unique kills - one Lebanon and two Iraq (Most of the IAF kills were against Syrian/Egypt aircrafts). This specific jet finished his career early (1969-70) in training accident. The kit is the better kit available today (IMHO), with some aftermarket - Armycast wheel wells, Res-kit engine and wheels, Eduard etch (bigger than OOB). Underwing stores will include two 500l tanks only. Let's start: So far I assembled the engine (MUCH more detailed and delicate than OOB), installed the resin wheel wells (with some additional wiring) and assembled the wing. Next - cockpit!
  8. This is Eduard's Weekend edition (many weekends in this case) Mirage III, oob with the exception of an Aires bang seat. A nice kit, the only problem I had was with the main undercarriage which is almost a butt joint with a small lump to put in an equally small hollow. I drilled & pinned it instead. Finished in the armee de l'air's equivalent of the RAF's sh!t & custard - merde et crème anglaise perhaps. Comments & criticisms welcome as always. Pete Thanks for looking.
  9. Here with my recently finished Italeri 1/32 Mirage IIIE What can I say about this kit? Well I love Mirages and particularly the Mirage III. If I didn't, this kit would be in the bin! Soft and sometimes incomplete surface details. The surface is rough. The instructions are unclear in a number of areas. The nose cone in particular and some other major parts are poorly fitting - in fact I would go so far as to say the nosecone is an appalling fit for a modern kit! The wheels are a joke - the tread on the main wheels, well, what there is, bears no resemblance to the real thing. I wasn't helped by a strangely moulded canopy which didn't even start to fit and was strangely flexible (Italeri did replace this after an argument). The afterburner area is horrible! The indicated position of the holes to mount the underwing fuel tanks are in the wrong place and if, like me, you choose the large 1700l tanks, they foul the U/C doors. I filled and repositioned after much swearing. The sprue with the ECM pods on has some weird short shot areas, luckily on the inside, out of sight (though I am going to tackle Italeri again for some replacements). I certainly didn't find this easy. I was going to use some Berna decals and build something a little different but ultimately, the kit did not seem worth it to me so I went with the kit decals which worked superbly - but some of the decals are horribly over-scale and unreallistic. In the end, it looks quite nice but I am truly fed up with it now so I'm calling it finished. I did intend to do some more weathering/chipping etc and I may go back to it later. I replaced the nose probe with a Master turned one and I replaced the wheels with IIIC ones from Eduard which luckily include the later E type brakes.   10. I´m travelling to Europe in a couple of months, and I have the opportunity to buy either Italeri´s Nesher/Dagger or Kinetic´s Mirage IIIE/O/R/RD/EE/EA. Since the Italeri one has the decals I want (and it´s cheaper), what are your opinions on that kit regarding its fit and the need to fill and sand seams (and other type of details you guys may have). The Kinetic is, as stated, an option, but it doesn´t have the decals I want and it´s twice the price of the Italeri one. Good night, read you tomorrow!
  11. So here we go! Finally the Mirage GB is there. Waited for a long time :). In my stash I have this 1/32 Mirage III and the 1/48 Mirage III (SEA) box. Despite the time frame which for me means 'pressure' I did not choose my Mirage 1/48. As a reader on Britmodeller I especially enjoy builds which are kits that are rarely seen. So this time it's my turn to do so. The Italeri Mirage III box is huge and I bought back in November. I opened it a few times to look at the sprues. Italeri did a good job on the kit and there is a small PE-fret supplied too. Although I ordered 1/32 decals to make an Australian IIIO I have seen that it needs a fair bit of modification, and thus I've choosen to make a Swiss Mirage IIIRS. The recce version. The only thin I need to do is scratch build to canard wings of which I have a drawing in 1/32 scale. Matterhorn decals released a new comprehensive sheet covering basically all the verson flow with the Swiss Air Force. The decals were orderd to day so they should be arriving somewhere within the next two weeks.   12. Good night to all! here the last birth directly from my workbench... an israeli Mirage III CJ! Base kit is the Eduard, but I used the resin set for cockpit and wheel bays from SBM. Other details are from Eduard photoetched set, pitot from Master. For the natural metal finish I used the Aclad Lacquers and Mr.Paint semi gloss for the final coat. The decals are a mix from the kit and Isradecal set. Hope you'll enjoy. Cheers from Rome, Italy!   13. Mirage III E & R Update sets - For Italeri Kit 1:32 Eduard Update Set (32908 R)(32907 E) This is one brass fret.& one colour nickel one. Differences in the two sets are accounted for in the cockpit. The colour fret provides instrument panels, ejection seat handles & other small parts. The large set includes parts for the ejection seat, HUD, canopy mirrors, and other cockpit parts. Zoom sets are available if you just want the colour fret. 32907 Mirrage III E 33166 Mirrage III E(Zoom) 32908 Mirrage III R 33167 Mirrage III R(Zoom) Exterior (32403) This is two brass frets, the smaller of the two is for the exhaust. The bigger fret provides parts for the camera windows, gun port, undercarriage doors, undercarriage bays, and access panels. Seat-belts (32909) This small fret provides seat-belts which are the same for the E & R Conclusion These sets will enhance an already impressive model. Recommended. Review samples courtesy of
  14. Yes another 1/32nd Mirage III is in the pipe. Kinetic has just announced a new tool 1/32nd Dassault Mirage IIIE/O kit in progress for 2015 - ref.K3209. Not bad as this variant of the Mirage III opens the door to a family of aircraft like Mirage 5/50 and their numerous widely-exported versions. Pitot and Refuelling Probes 1:32/1:48/1:72/1:144 Master Having released the Sukhoi collection, Master Models have also recently released several sets for Western aircraft, with particular emphasis on the three V Bombers in both 1:72 and 1:144. [AM-32-090] – This pack contains two parts to build up the pitot probe and fairing for the Italeri 1:32 Mirage II. Rather than brass, the two parts have been turned in alluminium and is a simple direct replacement for the kit part. [AM-48-118] – Another simple replacement pitot probe, this time for the Airfix 1:48 BAC TSR-2, it may have been along time in coming, but it is, nevertheless, a very welcome addition. [AM-72-097/AM-144-009] – These two sets have been designed for the Airfix 1:72 and any of the 1:144 kits from the likes of Micro-Mir, Anigrand or Welsh Models. Each set contains two very fine pitot probes to replace the slightly clunky kit items. [AM-72-098/AM-144-010] – These sets contain only one item, the prominent refuelling probe. The 1:72 for he Airfix kit and the 1:144 for either the Anigrand or Great Wall Hobby kits. Unfortunately even though they are meant to be different scales the review samples re exactly he same size, so do check when you buy your 1:144 as it would be absolutely massive when compared to even the kit part. In each case though, you will need to cut the kit part where it joins the nose fairing, drill out the hole then fit the metal part before adding to the model. [AM-72-099/AM-144-011] – The last of the V bomber sets is naturally for the Victor, either the Matchbox/Revell 1:72 kit or the Anigrand/Welsh Models kits. Whilst he 1:72 set contains the two wing tip mounted pitot probes and the probe end piece for the refuelling probe, the 1:144 set does provide the whole refuelling probe as well as the pitot probes. Conclusion Five more very useful additions to the Master Models range. If you thought the 1:72 scale stuff was small, you really should check out the 1:144 scale parts.   17. To be a mirage - think that's what it means! Think its time to start putting up some picture of the latest build. It made a sneak appearance in front of my HAS diorama the other day but time to have a proper look at it. I was building a couple of US jets a while back (F104 & F100) and started thinking about the F102/F106 deltas. They look good & maybe one may come along one day. Until then the French delta came to mind. I have always liked the Mirage III and 5, and the Hasegawa kit of the Mirage IIIR is available on line pretty cheap in 1/48. So on the spur of the moment I ordered one. What problems could there be with a cheap Hasegawa kit? Well more of that later Kit shot: So what do you get? Not a lot. You could view it as cheap & cheerful or a bargain starting point. No recognisable ejector seat. Gaping holes in the wheel wells and the jet exhaust. No glazing in the nose camera recesses. One piece moulded closed canopy. I wanted to model it with no pilot & an open canopy. This is what you get for the cockpit: So options included buying a resin seat & interior (would probably cost more than the it) or bodging it up myself. Well anyone who has seen the HAS build will know – home made & do what I can. No seat cushion as the pilot is supposed to be there, so I made some up with cardboard & some filler for shaping. Seat belts are my first go with silver foil. Dial & displays are from a web picture of an etch, printed out & stuck on. Tried a throttle control from a bit of etch. I have boxed in behind the cockpit & over the front wheel well with plasticard. Air intakes are on & need some fillering to sit smooth. Loads of gaps in the fuselage fit at the dry fit stage. Weight made up to fit in the nose. Now, make up some glazing & fit it in the nose camera recesses before closing the fuselage or after?   18. Hello, I recently started the assembly of a pair of High Planes Mirage III kits. The in box review in pictures you can find on my blog: http://lietadielka.blogspot.fr/2012/05/mirage-iiio-nesher-s-high-planes-172.html. I would like finish both kits as an australian Mirages IIIO in a grey experimental camouflages. I'm currently working on an interiors.The basic cockpit color is a dark grey Tamiya acryl XF-24. The details are painted by various Vallejo, Revell Aqua and Humbrol Acryl colors. Pavol
  19. Hi mates, I`ve started with my MirageIII CZ from Hobbyboss. Truly surprised how many Eduard models of this "Belle du ciel" are built. The Hobbyboss kit is well detailed and here in Germany availeable for less than 16 Euro! So I was wondering as few kits of this brand are built! Since I`m a fan of the comic " The adventures of Mick Tanguy and Laverdure" it was only a question of time, that I would start to built this sexy sixty jet! As usual I`ve started not with step 1 of the instruction! Ussually I start with the sub components of an modell, as an welcome alternation! I`ve found some ncie pictures of the South African Mirage in the so called SAAF Forum. So my decision was fallen in favor of the AA Rocket Matra R 530. Only minor details are scratchbuilt. So I replaced all wings with thinner plastic. Additionally supplemented the two little control flaps and some missing panellines. Some original pictures has shown the Matra mounted on a yellow trolley! I decided to scratchbuilt one and used therefore the wheels of the old Italeri Trolley! Source: SAAF Forum Source: SAAF Forum Not sure what the original intention was, but I liked the very colourfull paintsheme of the SAAF Matra`s. Masking the rockets with Tamiya tabe and Laboratory Film I painted them with Gunze colours. I decided to use the 1600 liter tanks for my model.These tanks are so pretty huge! I rescriped some missing panellines too.

  21. Hi, I've been working on this model almost a year now. It's a kitbash of a Eduard Mirage III CJ and a Italeri Mirage III EA. Since 2012 is the year of the 30th anniversary of the Falklands War, I thought I'd do a Falklands War aircraft. I bought a load of books, and some kits (A-4's, SHAR, Harrier Gr.3). This is the only one I've managed to finish so far... The kit itself was a clone between the better detailed Eduard Mirage III CJ and the poor Italeri Mirage III EA. As the Eduard Mirage III CJ is far superior in detail, and looks very similar to the Mirage III EA, I decided to bash the two together using the Italeri cockpit section and the Eduard kit from the area around the intakes and to the rear. I've scratched the weapons stations for the Magic AAMs and used a spare look-alike for the centreline station for the R-530C missile. The droptanks came from Italeri, however I scratched the fins in card. The Magic missiles are from the Esci Mirage 2000 box. I also made the various antennae needed on the fin, back and in front of the cockpit. Decals used were the new Falklands print from Aztec (highly recommended, as it has the toned-down Argentinian markings) and some from Aerocalcas and stencils etc. from Eduard and Italeri. As the engine is different on a III EA than on a III CJ, I used a Wolfpack Atar 9C resin part for the engine section with exhaust. I also used a Pavla MB mk.4 ejection seat and a metal pitot from Master. With regards to the paint; I had a small crisis, as I had pictures of the fin being overpainted in brown to cover som ID panels (probably in yellow). I had no pictures that were good of the top side of the wings, which some also claims were painted with the ID panels and then overpainted. I decided to do the fin, as I had good pictures of this, but not the wings. I used WEMs FS36622 grey, FS 34079 dark green, FS 34102 green olive drab, and grey-toned white for the antennaes. Undercarriage were painted with Alclad. I used RAF Dark Brown for the ID panels. EDIT. Forgot FS30219 tan. I hope you like it, and any comments are welcome - also constructive critque!
