  2. Hi guys, I'm already planing a MiG-21 multi build and got Eduard's SPS-141 ECM pod. After all Czechoslovakian MiGs looking good, but I will have already some. So which country was or is using this pod on it's MF. I saw East Germany on a Bis. Did MF's carry them, too? Any other users ? Thanks for help.
  3. A 1/48 Bulgarian MiG-21bis to be built from the exceedingly nice Eduard kit with a suitable interceptor loadout. I have seen a variety of explanations for the "bis" - latin for "second", or other interpretations like "again", "encore", "another" and the list goes on, but the title of "Another MiG" is perfect for the "bis" with other MiG builds in this GB. Also, seeing I am currently in Bulgaria a local subject seemed an ideal fit. Suitably motivated by images like this: And this great little video: I am into it; So first step, some excellent box art, it is some of the best I have seen, a beautiful rendition of a MiG-21 in zero visibility. Sorry, I was getting excited with this build and just had to do the typical un-boxing where the reviewer always says "excellent box art". I know you have guessed it already - Eduard Overtrees: And a box full of plastic. I want to have some fun in the cockpit so thought I would blow the money I saved on overtrees with some upgrades. I just love that fidelity in jet turbines upgrades so hopefully I can also do this justice. And for overkill went with the "Look" panel The MiG-21bis has that deeper spine and a slightly reshaped nose. Eduard did not reshape the nose from their MF version and, yes, the variation is only fractions of a millimetre in 1/48, but once you see it you cannot unsee it. A modeller's curse for some of us. However, there is a correction kit from Cold War Studios and these guys are right here in Bulgaria. Within 24 hours I had the following and with a lovely embroidered patch included. Lucky me. Castings look good. I will be building a subject with the tri-color weathered upper camouflage. I have plenty of decals and more on order. Final subject is still to be chosen. Looking forward to this build. My first MiG-21, but I suspect not the last. First build images very soon. Ray
  4. Hello my friends.I present you my latest finished model.A mig-21 I built as a present for a friend of mine. The kit represents an ex Iraqi mig-21bis stuck in Yugoslavia when the desert strom 1 broke out.Around 1991-1992 it was flown with our national insignia.According to all the available reference material the weathering had to be at a minimum and the paintjob was brand new so that is why I coated it in semiglos varnish. Enjoy the photos
  5. Hello to all of you guys and girls on this forum.I present you my East German MiG-21f13.I built it OOB with the exception of the homemade seatbelts and the missiles and rails that came from the spares box.I used gunze and tamiya paints on this one.Enjoy it. https://youtu.be/r-jGsZITjSE
  6. VPAF MiG's, Part 5: MiG-21F-13 'Fishbed-C' (Modelsvit 1:72) MiG-21F-13 'Fishbed-C', '4426', pilot Nguyen Nhat Chieu, 921st FR, Kep, 29 October 1967 According to VPAF records, Nguyen Nhat Chieu was flying '4426' on 29 October 1967 when he shot down an F-4 - his sixth kill. US records do not verify this. Couldn't help myself - I just received this and it looked so interesting that I had to put it up here too. I'm getting bit crowded already for the rest of the year but oh well.... what's better than four migs, right? Five of course. Decent amount of stuff in the box - no aftermarket stuff in this photo apart from the couple Print Scale numbers. Kit plastic is bit of a mixed bag - sure it has some flash and stuff, but looks like the details are there, just needs some prep work. Lots of plastic, lots of small parts. Altough the kit itself might not be as refined as Eduard for example, there is still sense of quality with the kit - including the manual. Decals. Print Scale numbers on the bottom - I will be mixing the two to create '4426'. Some PE parts are included with the kit. Interesting looking scheme. And like with all my VPAF MiG builds - these are my reference books. My other MiG's: VPAF MiG's, Part 1: MiG-17 'Fresco-A' (Zvezda 1:72) VPAF MiG's, Part 2: MiG-17PF 'Fresco-D' (AZ Model 1:72) VPAF MiG's, Part 3: MiG-21PFL 'Fishbed-D' (Eduard 1:72) VPAF MiG's, Part 4: MiG-19S 'Farmer-C' (KP 1:72)
  7. VPAF MiG-21PFL 'Fishbed-D', '4127', pilot Dong Van Song, 921st FR, Noi Bai, 1966 Dong Van Song flew this plane often on the first part of 1966 - and two kills were confirmed by Noi Bai pilots with this airframe. On july 14th 1966 '4127' was shot down by F-4C (flown by Capt W J Swendner and 1Lt D A Buttell) using an Aim-9B missile. Pilot Ta Van Thanh was killed as the plane disintegrated over Hanoi, while he was chasing F-105s. - - - - - - Kit: Eduard MiG-21PF ProfiPack Edition (#70143) Scale: 1/72 Aftermarket: Master pitot tube, Print Scale decals. 8. VPAF MiG's, Part 3: MiG-21PFL 'Fishbed-D' (Eduard 1:72) MiG-21PFL 'Fishbed-D', '4127', pilot Dong Van Song, 921st FR, Noi Bai, 1966 Dong Van Song flew this plane often on the first part of 1966 - and two kills were confirmed by Noi Bai pilots with this airframe. The kit, new Eduard Profipack edition of the MiG-21PF. To my knowledge, difference between PF and PFL was just some of the equipment, PFL had some Vietnam specific stuff. So model wise, they should be identical (correct me if I am wrong). What's in the kit. Being a Profipack, contents are already pretty good with the canopy masks and color PE set (not to mention high quality Eduard plastic parts in the first place) - but I'm using some aftermarket in the form of decals by Print Scale. Some of the details. Really nice kit, the Eduard MiG-21. I've built MiG-21MF earlier and is one of my favourite kits. Kit comes with North Vietnamese decals, but I chose something else. I found this from Osprey's 'MiG-21 Aces of the Vietnam War' by Istvan Toperczer - looks to be some hastily applied camo job over metal finish. I'm using the numbers from Print Scale sheet - but the insignia from Eduard, as the Print Scale insignia is just way off shape wise. And yeah, the number is '4721' and not '4127' - but it's easy enough to change the place of the numbers BTW has anyone knowledge about the insignia on the wings - whether VPAF MiG's had them or not? I remember reading somewhere that they were not necessarily used, especially not on camo'ed aircraft? My other MiG's: VPAF MiG's, Part 1: MiG-17 'Fresco-A' (Zvezda 1:72) VPAF MiG's, Part 2: MiG-17PF 'Fresco-D' (AZ Model 1:72) VPAF MiG's, Part 4: MiG-19S 'Farmer-C' (KP 1:72) VPAF MiG's, Part 5: MiG-21F-13 'Fishbed-C' (Modelsvit 1:72)
  9. Hello to all, Another of my last year builds: this is my 1/32nd scale Mig-21 LanceR C. I used Trumpeter's Mig-21MF kit and Icaerodesign conversion kit which is very nice and add the much necessary bits to complete conversion for upgraded variant used by Romanian AF. Painting was done with Hataka paints, orange line - RoAF paint set. This subject is well documented, so reference for it were in abundance. The kit itself is nice enough to keep you going, details are there but it's starting to show its age (i.e. wheels, landing gear bays and so on). Nevertheless it was an enjoyable build. All the best!
  10. Hi, all! I hope everyone is healthy and can enjoy our wonderful hobby. I am building a Bulgarian MiG-21MF-75, specifically white 177 included in the Eduard 1/72 box and Linden Hill Imports ‘Brothers in Arms 3’ decal sheet. My question is very simple: does that plane (white 177) have visible stencils? I checked many photos of Bulgarian MiG-21 MF and Bis. Some of them have black stencils, much less stencils than Soviet and Warsaw Pact aircraft. On other planes I don't see any stencil. I only have a picture of white 177 (attached). It seems that it has no stencils. Could you give me your opinion on the stencils on this plane? Thank you very much for your help and keep safe. Best regards. Miguel Angel Sanchez Spain - España
  11. Mig-21 is the mainstay of the Indian Air Force and for a while now, slowly being replaced by more modern jets. But it will always hold a special place in the hearts and minds of most airmen in the Indian Air Force and the nation at large. This Academy kit is boxed as a MF but is a BIS actually. The build went easy as the kit did not have any fit issues. The cockpit was not that detailed but I did a little bit of scratch to make it look busy. And a spare Eduard Bis kit ejection seat was added to the model. I decided to go with the scheme of Tactics and Air Combat Development Establishment or TACDE. It is an Indian Air Force unit for training aerial combat to its top one percent fighter pilots. The institution evolves tactical procedures for various aircraft, implements standard operating procedures and trains pilots in operational doctrines. I had only a faded black and white picture as a reference. It would be fair to say the red shade was a bit of a guess. But I am sure it was red and white combination. The colors used to paint the model are mix and match, Life color paints were used, And the TACDE logo and serial numbers are self made decals. And roundels and fin flash are Bright spark decals. This build is part of a group build of 'Indian Scale modellers' group on facebook.
  12. Revell, (MiG-21PF), built here is the FL 1:48 . This is a very old kit with raised panel lines, which I sanded down and scribed. Roundel and fin flash decals are from the kit, but the Sqn. Logo, 52 and serial numbers are self made decals. The shark mouth is hand painted. Also used hair spray technique for fading and chipping. Paints used are AK Extreme Metal. The FL was manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited till the end of 1973, this model depicts a aircraft from The Sharks, No 52 Squadron, Indian Air Force. The Sharks were used in MiG Operational Fighter Training. They were deactivated in June 2005.
  13. Hello Everyone, The MIG-21 Bison (MIG-21-93) is primarily used by the India Air Force and is an upgraded version of the Later Mig-21s. The aircraft has a new radar and integration of modern avionics and weapons. The donor kit is a Trumpeter MIG-21 MF and is converted into a -93/Bison with various changes and scratchbuilt parts. A new Vac Form cockpit was made at home using a clear sheet. The overwing avionics bays were casted in resin from scratchbuilt masters. The spine is also corrected as the Trumpeter spine is too flat on the top side curve. this was also made in resin from a master. Various antennae were added as was a resin pilot. The rubber wheels were also replaced with resin wheels made at home. Finally i have added an Afterburner Flame to show the model as it was Taking Off.. . . DO enjoy the Build and the Pictures. . .. Do Like Comment and Subscribe . . . Best
  14. Hi all Here are photos of my most recent kit finished. Mig21 SMT Fujimi 1:72 Interior details Eduard resin and PE. Eduard resin wheels. Overall painting black basing followed with Gunze and Mr Color paints free-hand airbrushed. Comments and critics are welcome. Cheers
  15. Hello Some small details of the MIG-21: Affects the landing gear. In the Eduard kit, an essential part of the landing gear is completely wrong and the corresponding components are also wrong. This concerns the so-called parallelogram, which ensure the vertical position of the wheel. The wheel is always vertical. They have a joint at the bottom of the chassis leg, just for this purpose. The torsion scissors sit above. The landing gear cover is divided into two parts for the wing. There are two approximately rectangular openings in the top lid. The joint for the retraction and extension mechanism also has the same pivot point as the parallelogram there. Please look at the pictures! Happy modelling
  16. I am continuing the MIG-21 edition around the world. The last model made is the MIG-21R of the Egyptian Air Force. The model is made by Condor, known to everyone for all its shortcomings. I am pleased with what has been achieved and another MIG-21 is on display. Here's the picture.
  17. The MiG Ye-8 first flew in 1962, developed from the MiG-21PF to carry the larger Sapfeer radar it incorporated canards, lower fuselage intake and rear folding dorsal fin. Despite good overall flying characteristics and improved mach speed high altitude maneuverability the two prototypes were plagued by a new engine that was no good and the project eventually cancelled and elements incorporated into the MiG-23. I built the 1/48 Hi Kit years ago, it's a really nice kit and seemed to get the shape right. It was one of my first resin kits and although it was a good effort and not that bad (except for the vac canopy placement) I decided at some point to strip it down and redo it. I had some MiG-21 vac canopies to replace the flimsy kit one, added a KM-1 seat, more cockpit details (although the kit details were pretty good), and Eduard landing gear and a bigger front wheel. The similarities with the MiG-23 are more obvious than I originally thought. I still had the kit's instructions. I have built the Hi Kit 1/48 Su-9 as well, it too was a great kit way before the Kazan conversions or Trumpeter. And for Flankerman-
  18. "WINTER 1983 - RECON" MiG-21F-13, Finnish Air Force, TiedLLv Kit: Revell MiG-21F-13 Fishbed C (#04346) Scale: 1/72 Aftermarket: Master pitot, Kuivalainen photo etch, Aires wheels, Quickboost nose intake, Galdecal recce pods, unknown decals (FaF roundels) Paints: Vallejo Model Color, Model Air & Metal Color Weathering: Flory Models Wash, Mig weathering Products Decent kit with some flaws & problem areas. Most can be corrected/improved but replacement wheels are a must, kit wheels don't even look like wheels. Scratch built display base. Built for Nordic GB. Build thread: Thanks for looking! Comments & constructive criticism welcomed
  19. Gentlemen... The model I present is a SFR Yugoslav MiG-21PFM in experimental (RAF) camouflage back in the '70s. Kit is an Eduard weekend edition built OOB with the exception of decals. please check my blog for more info and photos: http://militaryaviation148.blogspot.com/ thanks for looking in.
  20. This is the Academy Mig-21, Soviet Air Force and & Export boxing and their version of 'Red 1904' from the Sky Hussars Display Team, 1983, though I've tried to depict it as it stands (stood?) at the Szolnok Air Museum in Hungary. The model is slightly fortunate to have made it this far as I had a bit of a mishap yesterday while putting the finishing touches on and dropped it. Luckily, most of the bits that fell off (nose pitot, chin antennas and rear landing gear and their doors were fairly easy to reattach and patch up, the only permanent casualty being the triple chin antennas, replaced with straightened wire and one of the main landing gear struts, which I heard crunch underfoot while looking for the other disconnected bits, so you'll notice one of the linkages isn't present! Other than that, the build went pretty smoothly. The kit is a bit basic when compared to the Eduard Migs, but it goes together well. I added a bit of extra detail to the kit seats, namely a milliput cushion as well as some belts. I also used a spare Eduard decal for the IP. With the canopy closed, accuracy wasn't an absolute priority, so they'll do. The main colour is my own mix of Mr Color Aqueous while the cockpit is a mix of Mr.C's Emerald Green and Tamiya Sky Blue. I chose a Satin finish in the end. Anyway, on to the pics. Please excuse the unpainted underside of the belly pylon - I was going to hang another tank but decided against it for now. I may do so at a later date but for now I just want to move on Thanks for stopping by!
  21. Hello! Here is another my model! In assembeling I used a lot of aftermarket sets. This is the Eduard photo etching from the kit. Eduards rockets R-13 and nozzle. Pilot tube from Master. The gun, all sorts of small air intakes and flaps of the Quickboost. Airintake of the Mini World, Neomegas ejection seat, R-3R rockets and wheels from Reskit. From myself I added only wiring to the nose gear. I painted the model with NATAKA paints. Top colors from the set, the bottom interfered. Weathering - oil dots, pigments and a wash of dark blue on the bottom and dark brown on the top.
  22. Hello my friends. This is my last built: an excellent Eduard Mig-21 MF. This mold is perfect. Easy fittings. I used Tamiya and Mr. Hobby mixes. Out of box. Cheers!
  23. Hi Guys Eduard weekend edition Mig-21MF quick build. That was very good set, no problems during build. Slovak Air Force "agressor" painting scheme. Model painted with Tamiya paints, details with brush Vellejo, Revell and Model Master paints. I use Eduard brassin wheels for main landing gear. Comparison with the Zvezda's Mig-21 1:72 scale model.
  24. I continued with my MIG-21 series. Here is one representative of the Cuban Air Force. So much for me now. Here's the picture, enjoy it.
  25. I was keen on receiving Eduard's new 1/72 MiG-21MF last year and got one as early as I could. 6 weeks and 50000 (not really, but you get the point) decals later, I was done with what I think is the best kit I have ever made.. Its beautifully engineered and has details that would blow your mind, but does make you work hard to achieve the fidelity it deserves. As profiled here before, the Profi-pack boxing comes with a variety of schemes, but I chose to build a MiG that was a true war-horse in the Middle East. Painted in the Znamya Truda camouflage in which several Arab Type-96s were delivered from the Soviet Union, it represents an aircraft of the Syrian Arab Air Force in the days leading up to the Lebanon War when they were outclassed and outgunned by the Israeli Air Force. Not deterred by the daunting challenges, Syrian pilots took the war to the Israelis and made the best use of their versatile and agile MiG-21. SyAAF is a shadow of its former self these days, but continues to be one of the most secretive air arms in the world. Their pilots and their MiG-21s continue to defend the homeland, but the enemy is very very different. If you are a MiG-21 aficionado, look no further than this kit. Parked alongside my old Kopro MF. Incredible how far we have come with MiG-21 kits. [
