  1. Hello guys, I have finally finished Skyraider from Tamiya in VA-25 marking. It is not the newest kit from Tamiya but still has its qualities. What I used: -Tamiya acrylic and Gunze H colours -Abteilung oil paints for weathering -mask for marking from Omask -wheel set from Eduard -1000lbs bombs from Eduard I hope you’ll like it.
  2. Good Evening Ladies and Gentleman, Greetings from COVID Stricken Prague, mater urbium. As an employee on air travel and cargo industry I have a lot of time now, so after long time of persuation I decided to return back to scale modeling for the time being as a sidequest from Wargaming - you can see some of our gaming endeavours in gallery and blog. Introduction is behind us, let's talk about the models. The Crusader will be my 2nd model after as long as 15 years I believe. I found out that the hobby changed a lot. As a figure painter you do not need all those fancy photo-etched parts and specialist tool for this or there, nor you care about the perfect hue. But I love aircrafts. I love scalemodels and I need diversion from battalions of tsar’s Infantry and Fantasy elves. And I am not the only scale modeller in Prague Wargames Club fortunately . Deks encourage me to start again and help a lot with all those new toys. So we decided to go for mutual build. So we opt for Academy 1/72 F-8E Crusader VF-162 Hunters. I like The Last Gunfigter very much and I tempted to buy one. Now returning back its time to fullfill my wishes 😄 as I always wanted one. I am not so strong believer in my skill for Eduard 1/48 so 1/72 is a good start. As I have experience with resin and detailed painting from all those 28mm minis, I purchased resin cockpit from our homeland company Aires. And on its ways are Aviprint decals (It seems it was a Czech company as well?) for MiG killer Crusaders. I would build aircraft of Cdr. Dick Bellinger who shot down a MiG-21 with it (VF162 BuNo149159 AH210). Probably some additional tools will pop up later on. You can watch Dek´s WIP here: We will start tomorrow. I will build up the cockpit, preshade it and start to paint it very slowly... Any advice is more then wellcome
  3. F-4C, USAF s/n 64-0776, 123rd Fighter Interceptor Squadron, Oregon Air National Guard. Seen at Edwards AFB, March 1984. Interestingly, all of the kill markings say they were made with AIM-9s, i.e., "MIG 21, 23 APR 67, AIM 9". According to Aces and Aerial Victories, the kill on 23 Apr 67 was with an AIM-7E, the first 22 May 67 kill with an AIM-9B, and the second 22 May kill with the SUU-16 20mm cannon. When retired, Miss Piggy first ended up at the McChord AFB Museum and now resides at the Seattle Museum of Flight in SEA 389th TFS markings. Thanks for looking, Sven
  4. Hello all, Here is my recently completed 1/48 Tamiya F-14A Tomcat, marked as BuNo 159610 of VF-32 'Swordsmen' in 1989, one of a pair of Tomcats that downed two Libyan Mig-23s. The build thread is here Extras used included Quickboost seats, Steel Beach early style gun vent, Steel Beach tail stiffeners, Fightertown and Furball decals along with a resin TCS. I weathered the model heavily using a mix of washes, dry brushing and pigments as reference pictures and verbal accounts show heavily weathered machines at that time. My two Tamiya 'cats together: Comments welcome, thanks for looking. Dave
  5. Hello all, Here is my second Tamiya F-14A, this time in the markings of VF-32 'Swordsmen' during the 'second Gulf of Sidra incident' in January 1989, whereby 2 Libyan Mig-23s were downed by a pair of F-14s. I'll be marking the model as A/C 207, BuNo 159610, which downed one of the Migs with an AIM-9. After the cruise, this jet was then re-manufacured as an F-14D (R) and served with VF-31 right up until retirement in 2006. The jet is on display in the Udvar Hazy centre at Dulles International airport. I had the privilege of seeing it in the flesh a few years ago: Kit: Extras: Will be using Quickboost seats, Steel Beach tail stiffeners, Fightertown decals, a resin TCS (thanks Tony!) and Furball decals for the AIM-54's. The reason for the later being that the AIM-54C began replacing the AIM-54A from 1986 and the Tamiya kit only has stencils for the AIM-54A. As always, the trusty, well worn reference material: Dave
  6. I managed to find this little gem on eBay recently... One of my favourite aircraft of all time and a legendary combat plane, i have very fond memories of watching these at Mildenhall and Weathersfield as a kid so im really looking forward to this build. The plane in question is 68-0493 which had a confirmed Mig-21 kill in July 1972. Its a good looking kit with plenty of detail, very little flash and a really nice decal sheet so it should go together quite well. Im going to try some different paint on this build, im usually a Tamiya kinda guy but ive heard good things about Hataka paints and the colours are apparently a really good match so looking forward to giving these a try.
  7. Hey everyone and here's the latest from me, finished for the Phantom GB here on Britmodeller. Yes, it's Airfix's ancient (1971 issue) F-4B Phantom that I think I bought out of sheer nostalgia and also after reading the excellent Osprey book pictured below (which has the kit's wingman on the cover). The full WIP thread is here but to recap: Kit: Airfix 04013 F-4B Phantom 1/72 Details: Some panel lines rescribed, Eduard Zoom photoetch for the kits seats and cockpit (which was scratchbuilt) Paint: White from a rattle can, all other paints Revell Acrylic, brush-painted. Johnson' Klear, Flory Models Wash, W&N Matt varnish Decals: Mix of Airfx kit for the Stars & Bars and Afterburner decals for squadron markings, A/c: VF-21 'Freelancers' of Lt Dave Batson & LCDR Rob Doremus, Callsign 'Sundown 102', USS Midway, 17 June 1965 - Mig 17 shotdown. Definitely not the most detailed or accurate F-4 kit out there by a long way but it was the first time I used etch, first time I built an F-4 and I had a lot of fun with the build. She might be a little too Matt in finish (hard to tell when most of the pictures were B&W) but I'm happy how the old girl cleaned up and I think she looks like a Phantom! Thanks for looking and until the next time! Dermot
