  1. About the aircraft: MiG-21MF - representative of the third generation of MiG-21 aircraft. Quite numerous in Poland (120 pieces). About the copy: MiG-21MF-75 with the side number 7399 - one of twenty MiG-21MF-75s delivered to Poland, produced at the Gorky factory. It was stationed at the 34th Fighter Aviation Regiment in Babie Doły. It was painted in an atypical for Polish's MiGs "pigeon" gray. As it turned out during later operation - with the help of radar-absorbing paint 🙂 . Presented with armament as for a pair of duty aircraft: 2 x RS-2US + 2 x R-3S. About the model: The base was Eduard's kit "MiG-21MF Interceptor" in 1/72 scale. Own decals, Bilmodel paints. More photos in WiP gallery on Scalemates.
  2. 1/72 - MiG-21 Fishbed family project was finally officially confirmed by Eduard http://www.eduard.com/store/out/media/InfoEduard/archive/2015/info-eduard-2015-01CZ.pdf (english version soon) MF, bis and SMT versions expected first
  3. If I may I like to toss my hat into the ring ,now that I have other projects further along, with OEZ's 1/48 Mig-21MF and since it's kinda basic, Eduards P/E cockpit set and Aires Mig-21 Cockpit. Granted these are for the Academy kit, but should(I hope) fit
  4. Another Eduard kit. I need some feel-good modelling, not that I haven't been having fun, but building these Eduard kits is like...heaven...This will be no different. I'll get into it as soon as I rig the Siskin and get it on the shelf. Nice profile with interesting markings... --John
  5. Hi all - first post here, and thought I'd do something a bit different: This was great fun to do...conventional model painting rather went out the window, and I used mainly homemade decals drawn with dip pen and acrylic ink. This was inspired by a real life aircraft in Katowice, of which there are plenty of photos on the usual sites, eg: https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/5788170 Seeing as I bought the KP 3-pack, I think I'll do a clean one next!
  6. Hello everyone, I've been working on the Polish MiG-21 MF kit from academy for a while now, and the time has come for me to put the decals in position. Considering the potential final result, I was both excited and also worried at the prospect of facing some issues with getting those long and thin decals to conform to the surface properly... Unfortunately, I am now facing some issues with the decals. More specifically, wrinkling issues (see below). Decals were applied on three layers of gloss (result probably closer to semi gloss TBH), and some micro set. I've already gone over the decals 4-5 times with micro sol, and I am at a point where I don't even know if the decal solution is having more of a positive or a negative effect. Do you have any thoughts on what I could do to get rid of the wrinkles? (Or at least reduce their appearance as much as possible). I've also cut through the decal where the wrinkles were wide enough, and that has helped a bit in a few cases. I'm thinking of applying quite a few gloss coats (Mr Color GX Super Clear III thinned with Mr Leveling thinner), and then slowly sanding down the excess gloss, and with it the protruding wrinkles. I have access to sanding sponges all the way to 12000 Grit. Thank you all for taking some time, Best, Mat
  7. No WiP for this one folks...but I think this is my first finished kit of 2020! Eduard's lovely Mig-21MF from their Dual Combo box. It is the aircraft flown in Angola during 1976 by Cuban General Rafael del Pino. I tell you, I have been putting this off for so long. The thought of this kit scared me. Over a year I balked. Result? It's a wonderful kit, very tight fit tolerances and more stencils than you can shake a stick at. I mean, really, guys...crazy amount of stencilling, but I managed to get 95% of them on and where they should be. All the paints are Vallejo Air or Vallejo Model. OOB completely. I pin washed with black/brown oils and I am happier with this than Flory Wash. Sometimes the Flory just seems too 'dirt-like', know what I mean? I learned a lot about this kit, as a whole, since this is, more or less, just like all the other Mig-21 kits Eduard will make. For me, I will skip the PE and the resin seat in the future. I had a heck of a time getting the cockpit all together with the PE, the resin, etc...and with a closed canopy, you can't see it anyway. Next one will be all plastic and decals. Much easier. In any case, if you haven't built one of these Migs, you must. It's on the same scale of detail and fit as their Spitfire range. Very nice indeed! On a different note, I forget what a small aircraft the Mig-21 really is. Much smaller than the -15/-17...certainly more elegant that the -19. Sleek, a little dart. And compared to the US aircraft? Miniature... Here's some pictures... Here's a bit of a pile of Migs. And it is destined to just get bigger. 2 of the new Airfix Mig-17 kits are coming and a KoPro Mig-19 as well. Next up for me will be the Finnish KoPro Mig-21Bis. Look like a decent kit and the roundels are in register. --Happy modelling and Happy 2020!
  8. I have been looking at Eduard's 1/72 MiG-21MF kits, the interceptor version and Fighter Bomber. Each box has a different sprue listed containing the fuselage amongst other bits. My question is, can anyone tell me what, if anything, is actually different between those sprues? I've been on Eduard's website and comparing their pictures of each sprue and other than the sprue's letter, I can not detect any difference. What am I missing? Is it in the panel line details of the fuselages? shape? If anyone who those kits could enlighten me, I'd appreciate it. MiG-21MF Fighter Bomber: MiG-21 Interceptor: The only thing I really have noticed is that there is a circular opening on the lower wing halves right by the u/c openings. One appears bigger than on the other kit. Could this be the difference???
  9. Hi there. This is my 20th model I have completed since the beginning of this year, after I restarted this hobby after putting it on hold all those years ago. And I've had a blast ever since. I've been building mostly cold war jets in 1/72 scale. So about the model: Model: Eduard MiG-21MF (Royal Class Combo, No. R0017) Scale: 1/72 Paints: Vallejo Model & Air Aftermarket: None (kit was supplied with resin & etch parts) Weathering: Vallejo Weathering Effects, Flory Models Wash Decals: Techmod TM72070 Eduard kit is simply but brilliant. Not a bad word I can say about it. Word of caution of the photography - I'm trying to get better photos but I'm not quite there yet. Especially the colours are bit off but anyway, I hope you can see enough. Comments & constructive criticism is welcomed.
  10. Eduard MiG-21MF Overtrees 1:72 Eduard Eduard's superlative new MiG-21MF (reviewed elsewhere in this forum) is also available in the Overtree's format. These boxings, which contain just the plastic parts from the original kits, are handy for those who want to make the most of their investment in Royal Class or Profipack kits that come supplied with more decal options than you can shake a stick at. They are an affordable way of acquiring more kits for a reasonable price. Three boxings are available, for the interceptor and fighter bomber variants, as well as a weapons set. 11. Hello All, Back to modelling after a long hiatus. I wanted to build an African MiG-21 for some time now. Kit is KP. The kit has lot of issues especially in the cockpit area and I struggled with the fit (You can see it ) and the panel lines are raised too which makes it hard to weather . Other than that the build was straight forward. The anti glare panel was painted based on some reference art work I got off of Wings Palette .Decals were given to me by a good friend of mine. Now to the pictures. Hope you like it . Regards Vivek
  12. Kovozávody Prostějov is to release a serie of 1/72nd MiG-21 - the first one will be a MiG-21MF "Fishbed-J". Source: http://www.kovozavody.cz/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/AVIZOKP-EN-0116.pdf Considering the soon to release Eduard 1/72nd Fishbed kits... http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234974059-172-mig-21-fishbed-by-eduard/ V.P.
  13. At Nürnberg Toy fair 2013. 1/48th MiG-21MF "Fishbed-J" by Trumpeter - ref.02863 Source: http://www.primeportal.net/models/thomas_voigt7/trumpeter/ The test shot For my part I don't see the interest of this future kit as the Eduard MiG-21MF is not only top but readily available and at good price. 14. Here is my entry for the GB one will be in GDR colours and for the other build I can't decide between Slovak or Polish Air Force, I will make the choice later. Because they are the same type and scale, I thought that I would combine the two builds but if this is a problem then please let me know and I will split them. Here are the obligatory box and content shots Option 1 - German Democratic Republic Option 2 Slovak Air Force or Polish Air Force I am looking forward to making a start on these and, because I am a bit of a slow builder, I hope that I will be able to complete them in good time. Sorry about the quality of some of the photos, I will do better with the later ones.
  15. The Czech and Slovak fishbeds are already completed. Some "Step-by-step" pictures from the construction are posted here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234950372-mig-21mf-mig-21mfn-fishbed-rv-aircraft-172/ Finally, only a brief summary of used aftermarket accessories: Quickboost QB 72 200 MiG-21MF/SMT/bis Air Intake Quickboost QB 72 228 MiG-21MF/SMT/bis Air Scoops Air Master AM-72043 MiG-21 SM/M/MF Pitot Tube PE cockpit set RV72026 and RV72025 PE set exterior RES-IM 72006 stencils Eduard D72004 MiG-21MF
  16. A few weeks ago I began to build a new pair of MiG-21 from R.V.Aircraft.I chose the classical version MiG-21MF (HI TECH box) and Czech modernized MiG-21MFN. Content of the MiG-21MF HI TECH kit: Currently both models are after the airbrushing camouflages. MiG-21MFN: The camouflage is done using Gunze H.308. I sprayed the fading using mixture 2:1 Tamiya XF-2:XF-19. Finally I applied heavily thinned color mix 2:1 Gunze H.45:Tamiya XF-2 to achieve a bluish tint. MiG-21MF was airbrushed in a similar procedure. Step 1-Light blue grey: Step 2-Brown: Step 3-Dark Green: Pavol
