  1. I have both the Academy 1/48 MiG 29, and the MiG 29UB in my stash. I would like to build them (if possible) as current Ukrainian Air Force MiGs. I know that there are newer, better kits out there, but I can't afford to pursue them at this time and would like to use what I have. What mods would I need to achieve reasonable accuracy, and what aftermarket is recommended? (I have the Foxbot UB decals and mask set on order) Also, what would be the appropriate loadout? Thanks, Colin
  2. Hi All after long time not making models, again got some free space to finish one. I planned to do this version of MIG for a long time, as it really differs with its crazy non standard colors. As i understand information from the web, this plane was shown in fresh colors to ‎Kim Jong-un for one of his birthday, with interesting detail, text under cockpit in red squares. Model is old Italeri, with some upgrades: riveted surfaces (quite visible on mig-s, replaced nose cone, replaced models intake covers with new made from plastic, added details in cockpit. Colors AK acrylics...mixed to get closest as possible to real thing, decals Dream Model. Very light weathering as i can not imagine that somebody leave dirt on plane during visit . So it is finished, i do not like MIG in this colors, but i am happy with overall look of this old mold. Till next post, wish you all happy modeling time. And at the end, compare image with referent photo from the net:
  3. Hello Chaps, It's been a while since I posted anything, but this is because my wife and I moved to a new home that we bought. With all the packing, moving, unpacking and settling in, time went by fast....6 months to be precise before I touched styrene again. Well, since the move, I still haven't found the time to create my new man-cave/modeling den in the basement, which means that airbrushing is a no go, and so, because I was getting severe withdrawals, I decided to try my hand at brush-painting some 1/72 scale kits in my stash. I chose to do 1/72 rather than my normal 1/32 or 1/48 scale for a good reason- if I screwed up with the "Hairy-Sticks", I wouldn't be too bothered about messing up a smaller and cheaper kit. Since November, I've managed to complete five 1/72 scale kits and one 1/144 scale kit and I have to say, I've had fun painting them the "old fashioned" way, I used Model Master acrylics and then oils for the weathering stage. So, I'd like to share the first of those 6 builds and apologize for not having/finding the time to post a build log prior to this RFI post. I hope you like it...I was happy with my "Hairy Stick" results: Although I much prefer to build the larger scale kits, purely for comfort on my aging eyes and much prefer to use an airbrush, I did have fun and this was a decent little kit. If you'd like to watch my YouTube video for this, then here is the link to that: Thanks in advance for any comments made, much appreciated! Cheers, Martin
  4. First i would like to great you all ! I got this model for a Christmas and i was so happy with it ! But later when i started to build it, i lost all my happines. First of all so many parts, i made me go crazy ! That wings top asembly was horrible. Also i bought Vallejo acrylic colors, and i love them, only positive side in this project. I am a brush painter so it is just amazing how good results this colors have, no brush strokes at all . This model was suposed to be a one year aniversary of Building scale models but it turned out a fiasco, i Know i miss missiles and bombs on it but i lost any will to do them. I will put some pictures of Building proces and everything below but i am so disapointed. That cannopy made me almost to brake Mig into peaces ! It was somehow rotated, dunno how to describe it with words. I just couldn't get a nice fit, if i knew what horror it would be, i would put it open but now it is too late... Sorry for my english Cannopy :(((
  5. Mikoyan Mig 29 9-13 1:48 Eduard Etch Sets for GWH The Great Wall Hobby Mig 29 9-13 has got to be one of the best aircraft kits released this year. But Eduard have seen fit to make it even more detailed with these sets for the exterior and FOD guards. Having reviewed the interior set HERE you can see that these sets will compliment it and further enhance the completed model. Mig 29 F.O.D (48771). This single sheet set provides FOD covers for the upper and main intakes and the nozzles. The intake guards are folded to make a box like structure, but not before the strengthening indentations have been improved by running a ball point pen over them. Each of the guards are fitted with handles and other smaller details, such as the straps for the main guards and locking fittings for the upper guards. The nozzle guards are a two piece affair with the rear sections having to be rolled to shape and either glued or soldered to each forms a ring. To these the covers are fitted with two handles and attached to the rings. Two straps per guard are then fitted between the rear ring and the front of the exhaust petals. Mig 29 Exterior set (48772). This is another single sheet set, but it’s a whole lot more complex and certainly designed for the more experienced modeller. The complexity comes from having to roll and fold to shape several parts for the kits exhaust nozzles, including the interior of the exhaust petals for both the front and rear sections of the nozzles. The EGT spiders web is fitted on the rear fan disc replacing the kit part and the whole lot joined together to make a pair of very detailed nozzles. Next are the internal details on the upper and lower airbrakes in the shape of interior panels, pipework, and strengthening ribs. There are also new panels and brackets for the main wheel bay doors. The nose wheel bay is provided with new sidewall details, whilst the nose wheel receives new mudguards, scissor link as are the main wheel legs. The distinct intake ramps are also provided but they don’t look any better than the etched ones in the kit. Finally each of the pylons can be fitted with new plates for the underside which will look good if the weapons are left off. Conclusion Eduard do seem to produce sets that on one hand are very useful for adding some superb detail, yet on the other do make them rather complex that only experienced modeller can use them. They also reproduce items that are really don’t need to replaced form the kit. That said these sets are still very nice and if you have the right tools or skills then good use of them can be made. The extra finesse that brass has over styrene can really make a model pop. Recommended. Review sample courtesy of
  6. Mikoyan Mig 29 Interior Etch Set Eduard 1:48 (49 627) The new Mig 29 9-13 from Great Wall Hobby is an unbelievable kit with more parts and detail that’s been seen on a 1:48 scale model for a long time. Surely there cannot be anything that the aftermarket manufacturers can find to add to this wonder of injection moulding. Well, apparently they can, and Eduard have started releasing sets for it. Starting with the interior set which has just arrived, Eduard provides a very nice selection of parts to upgrade and enhance the Migs cockpit. The set comes on two sheets, one printed in full colour and the other in standard relief etched brass, there is also a small acetate sheet for the HUD. The pre-painted parts are also self adhesive so you’ll have to get the parts in the right place before pressing down as they really don’t like being removed afterwards. Not only are the instrument panels, with instrument backing, console and auxiliary panels included, but there are also a set of seatbelts and fittings for the ejector seat all in a fairly accurate colour, although I think the blue is a little too light. The plain brass sheet contains some more parts for the ejection seat, such as the leg restraints, seat back pad and squab and a couple of shoulder restraints. These will have to be painted to match the pre-painted items, which may be a bit of a bind. The rest of the parts make up the cockpit coaming and surrounds, rear decking, canopy and windscreen framing with additional rear view mirrors, new vents, HUD glass holder, rear canopy bulkhead, and canopy latches. There is also a Zoom set available which only gives the modeller the pre-painted parts which may be enough for some modellers. Conclusion This is a very nice and effective set. As stated above I think the blue of the cockpit panels may be a little light but once fitted it should be fairly easy to match with the rest of the cockpit. The set will certainly busy up the ejection seat and surrounds. Is it worth it, particularly for this particular kit, I think I’ll leave that up to the individual to decide? It’s still to Eduards standards so I can still recommend it for those who want to go this way. Review sample courtesy of
  7. We have received a shipment of the GWH4813 MiG-29 9-13 from Great Wall Hobby and they are finally available to order in the UK. http://www.creativemodels.co.uk/great_wall_hobby_148_mig29_913_fulcrum_late_type-p-32112.html Unfortunately we do not have any of the 9-12 MiG available.
  8. Hello peoples, I done the MiG-29 a while ago, but was using it as a test bed for "washes" the one thing I can not get right... I know it's silly... The MiG 1.44 was a test model for masking and just because I wanted to see if "digital" camo was possible with basic masking, think I have kinda pulled it off. Wanted to give them both a dirty "used" look... I am open to helpful criticism, so please be as honest as you'd like. Model : Revell MiG-29 Fulcrum (think it was an "A" model) Scale : 1/144 Decals : Kit ones Paints : Vallejo and Humbrol primer Extras : None Oh also I left the pylon attachments there because I am still not sure if I will put them on or not. Also didn't see the point in putting the undercarriage doors as this was only a test bed for various methods. The camo is based on the SMT version. Model : Revell MiG 1.44 MFi "Flatpack" Scale : 1/144 Decals : Kit ones Paints : Vallejo and Humbrol primer Extras : Scratchbuild cockpit which you can not see... :/ I think the fact that I put 4 coats of paint on this has totally obliterated the panel lines, that's why it's a bit lacking in places. Also I used Tamiya primer on this one too, comes out a little thick unless I am just heavy handed... always a possibility. Thank you for looking! Kind Regards, Dazz
