  1. XZ208, Pics from Greg Buckley, This is one of the options on the New Airfix kit.
  2. Scaleworx is to release a 1/48th SAAF Super Lynx 300Mk.64 resin conversion set. Release expected in 2015 Source: https://www.facebook.com/scaleworx/photos/a.235132476686101.1073741852.212054182327264/387079818158032/?type=1&theater V.P.
  3. Hi all, I'm currently building a 1/48 Airfix Lynx Mk.88 in German Navy markings, and I want to add the door gun to it, but I'm rather dissapointed with the kit one. Especially the barrel is underwhelming. Does anyone have a suggestion for a decent replacement? Just the barrel will do. Thanks in advance
  4. Hi there. I would like to share my latest build of the Sea Lynx Mk 90B (RDAF) End of june I was visiting Helicopterwing Karup i Denmark, and had a tour of their facilities. They are keeping the RDAF fleet of Helicopters in shape for their duties. Today the fleet concists of Aerospatiale AS-555 Fennec (12), Agusta Westland EH-101 Merlin (13) SH-60 Seahawk (3) 6 on order. And of course the Westland Sea Lynx Mk 90B (7) used to be 14... So I just wanted to do this build of the danish Lynx before they are being taken out of service. Haynes Lynx manual for some further detailing... Aftermarket parts from Eduard, paint from Mr. Paint and Rivets from HGW as the Revell kit is without any?
  5. Westland Lynx HAS.2 XX910. XX910 first flew on 23rd April 1974 as one of the pre-production prototypes of the light Lynx HAS.2, ASW helicopter. A&AEE, Boscombe Down, are believed to have used XX910 for trials of navigation equipment up to 1978, when it was transferred to the Royal Aircraft Establishment, later DERA, at Farnborough. There it was used for Seaspray radar and other avionics trials but eventually placed in storage and kept as a source of parts for use on other airframes. Acquired by The Helicopter Museum in December 2000, XX910 had never entered operational service though it had probably been involved in some of the early trials of the Sea Skua air-to-surface missile system at the RAE Aberporth range in Cardigan Bay. This helicopter was restored by volunteers from the Lynx Operations Support Team at RNAS Yeovilton.Info from Friends of The Helicopter Museum. Pics thanks to Mike Costello.
  6. I love birthdays! No sprue shots, sorry, but there are heaps around on the internet. Straight into it! Instrument panel: And sink marks filled: Here the instrument panel is dry fitted onto the console, on the floor of the heli. Assembled the Sea Skua missiles And Mk 11 depth charges. At least that's what the instructions say, but the blurb on the side of the box says something about Sting Ray torpedoes, so I'm not sure what they are!? (I'm no expert on such things!) The decals look fun: I want to do the black cats version though, so I probably have to invest in some decal-settling solutions. Then I noticed this: A crack on the otherwise crystal-clear parts... Spares part has been requested! Thanks for looking!
  7. The Revell 1/32 lynx is a great kit except for the main blades which bend down when on the real thing they are rigid. Does anyone know of anyone does after market one? I was thinking of drilling them out and using a metal rod to stop them drooping. I used brass tube when doing the Rotordyne but this is not an option on this kit. Any help greatly appriciated Rodders
  8. Hello! When building had no problems. a set of high-quality. It has been added to the Pavlas cabin. It was correct cut lines on the belly and added the antenna. Struts were made for blades. The set they exclusion. I had their soldering of the wires of the LEDs. Result not perfect, but better than without them. Air intakes of engines made by shrouding. The keel has been inserted to simulate the mesh grille. The model was painted Tamiya and MR Hobby paints. Weathering- oil dots and pigments.
  9. Hi All, I'm in with this 1974 made in England Matchbox 1/72nd scale 3 colour kit of the British made Westland Lynx. Box Top The other side Contents The blue sprue The other blue sprue The white sprue The instructions Inside the instructions Some more of the instructions More of the same Plus this bit Then this at the end Transfers See through parts The big questions are; Should I build it sans paint since the box claims "no painting is necessary"? And should I build it as an Army helicopter or a Navy one? More to follow over... Cheers, Daniel.
  10. Afternoon Everyone, Had this kit built since Jan but has taken me until now to paint and decal it. First time using primer, airbrushing, Humbrol acrylics, tamiya tape, micro sol and set (Never even knew these things existed until stumbling across this site last summer) Previous models were bashed out in a weekend using pots of Humbrol Enamel that I'm pretty sure I've had knocking around since I was about 6, so this was quite a learning curve. I'm sure there are lots of mistakes, joins in the plastic are pretty obvious but I'll get round to learning how to fill, sand and re-scribe at some point. All in all really enjoyed it, and pretty pleased with the outcome. Thanks for looking Pete
  11. Hi Everyone, PaulJ and I have both got Airfix 1/48 Lynx's to build. We have decided to do this as a buddy build. This is going to be my build of the 1/48 scale Lynx HMA.8. Here are the boxart/sprue photos. Anyway I'll be making a start on this kit tomorrow, so will post my 1st update as soon as I have made a decision about which version of the Lynx HMA.8 to build and once I have started the build itself. Cheers, Rick
  12. Hi Everyone, PaulJ and I have both got Airfix 1/48 Lynx's to build. We have decided to do this as a buddy build. This is going to be my build of the 1/48 scale Lynx AH-7. Here are the boxart/sprue photos. Anyway I'll making a start on this build tomorrow at the same time as the HMA.8. Cheers, Rick

  14. Westland Lynx 3. Pics thanks to bootneck Mike. The Lynx 3 was a private venture prototype built by Westland. The aircraft was manufactured using the major components of Lynx airframes in 1984 at Yeovil, Somerset, as an 11 seat military battlefield helicopter powered by two Rolls Royce Gem 60 turboshaft engines. The Lynx 3 Prototype first flew in 1984 but lack of orders caused the development to be abandoned in 1988. ZE477 was the only Lynx 3 built, it was subsequently used for trials and demonstration work through 1984-85 before its last flight on 10th March 1987. ZE477 then remained in storage until August 1988 when Westland agreed to transfer this interesting one-off prototype to the Helicopter Museum.
  15. Westland Lynx, ZB500/G-LYNX, C/n. 102. Following initial orders placed for the Lynx AH Mk.1 by the Army Air Corps and the Qatar government, Westland built their own demonstrator and trials aircraft. Built in 1978 at Yeovil, Somerset as a 9-seat military battlefield attack-utility helicopter powered by two LHTEC T800 turboshaft engines, it first flew on 18th May 1979 and continued to carry the civil registration for non-military demonstration flights. Following these flights it was stored for two years, before being reworked in mid 1986 for an attempt on the Helicopter World Speed Record. On completion of the modification work G-LYNX was flown again on 1st August 1986 and, following several trial runs, made the actual record attempt on 11th August over a measured 15 km (9.3 mile) route on the Somerset levels. The final speed, verified by the FAI, was 400.87 kph (249.09 mph) a 9% increase over the previous record. In 1991 the aircraft was modified for flight tests but by mid 1992 the helicopter was again placed in storage. Following an approach from the Helicopter Museum in late 1994, Westland agreed to transfer the aircraft for display and it was moved from storage to the museum on 19th January 1995. G-LYNX remains the World Speed Record holder today.Info from The Helicopter Museum Pics mine.
  16. Finally got this to a point where I can about call it finished, just a few remaining touches. Not happy with the glazing, the front screen wasn't a good fit, and the time thishas been sat around so much dust has collected in the foot well areas and I can only reach half the panel from the inside to clean it. The oil wash is much heavier than I would have liked too, it just wouldn't come of despite the varnish under it. She looks better from a bit of a distance, things always seem to look much rougher under the camera.
  17. Hello, Just have finished this and I'd like to share with you. First as usual, couple things about the kit. i was really really surprised when I first open the box. First glance on some pieces, mainly the fuselage and the cabin and only thing I could say was "wow!". The "wow" factor ended couple steps later. Don't get me wrong, most of the kitis really amazing. Great detail, a lot of rivets and nice panel lines, but when I get to the engine cowling I was shocked. I've looked on different websites to see if real Lynx has this section completely flat, as on this kit.. Well it still looked good. then I went to fitting the main canopy and beautiful 1mm gap appeared! I've managed to fill it with some putty, but I don't really like surprises like this. I don't mind some gaps, but this one was way too big. Other disappointment was engine intake cover which should be a mesh, but in the kit is made with clear plastic. I scratch build it with some old PE leftovers. The kit gives you couple options of the aircraft to build. I decided to build anti-piracy Danish version. I kind like it I must say. I've installed an internal light to lighten up the cabin a bit. It was just a try before my general and main project for this year and it worked fine. Ok, no more talking, there come the pictures: Thanks! Bart
  18. Hi, I have ordered an Airfix Lynx HMA.8 gift set from Tesco. I've been doing a lot of internet research (Google and forums) and found reports that there are issues with the fit of the kit especially the belly plate of the fuselage. Is it really as bad as it seems ? I hope some of you can advise before I have to go and collect the kit. Cheers, Rick
  19. Deleted. Not the wanted area.
  20. Hi all! I have been searching the forums but have not found an answer to my question: is the TOW missile sight above the cockpit a piece of mission equipment that would be removed and reinstalled as needed, or would it generally tend to stay on once installed? i am building the airfix Lynx for a group build that will represent a SFOR Lynx i saw down at the helipad at ilidza back in 1998. my deadline is coming up pretty soon so any all all help is greatly appreciated - Cheers! -Ramon
  21. I bought a hobbyboss lynx on Britmodeller and have just got around to building it. Hobbyboss missed a great opportunity to build a Lynx with the aid of CAD but it has turned out to be a bit of a challenge to get it near right. I am nowhere near the helicopter modeller that Lynx 7 and Perdu are but I gave it a go and here it is. The faults of the kit are well documented and I wont go over them again but in building it I have used The Rotor head and blades from an airfix kit (car boot 50p badly started) Why on a kit that is more expensive than the airfix one would you leave off the control arms on the rotor head??? I wish I had noticed that the front doors didn't have the bulged windows I could have used the airfix ones instead. I also used the nose of a Fujimi kit I had from years ago that didn't have any transparencies in. Normal proviso best seen from 5ft Away Rodders ##
  22. Agusta/Westland Lynx HAS-3 1:32 Etched sets With the release of the Revell 1:32 Lynx HAS-3 it was only a matter of time before Eduard released the relevant etched sets for it. The three main sets and one zoom set, come in the standard poly sleeves, and, unfortunately the rather disappointing instructions. Still the etched parts are still superbly produced and provide all that the modeller could possibly want to add to their build, and probably some that they didn’t know they wanted. Whilst the majority of the parts are the same as on their earlier releases for the Mk88 Lynx, there are enough type specific items on the sheets to make them not quite transferable. Lynx HAS-2 Exterior Set – 32347, contains new grilles for the rotor head gear box fairing, panel surrounds, door window frames and handles for the cabin sliding doors, handles for the cockpit doors, and a new Doppler panel. The nose wheel bay benefits from having new sidewalls and bulkheads, while the nosewheel oleo is fitted with hydraulic lines and connecting rods. The cabin machine gun, if fitted is kitted out with new front and rear sights, new barrel which will need to be carefully rolled to shape and a new ammunition box cradle. The main wheels are fitted with new brake discs, scissor links and hydraulic pipework. There are also new grilles for the tail cone and vertical tail, hydraulic lines and root fittings for the main and tail rotors, lifting eye for the rotor head, sensor faces, windscreen wipers and the grille in front of the windscreen. The torpedoes receive new parts for both the tail and nose sections. Lynx Mk88 Seat Belts – 32763. As this sets name suggests it provides the modeller with a full set of seat belts for all the seats in the kit. The belts and fitting are pre painted, a different colour to the earlier release, and do really look the part, although I’m sure a bit of dirt will make them look even more realistic. In addition to the seat belts the set also includes the seat frame and other fittings for each of the pilots seats. These are not pre-painted, but do provide that bit of extra detail that’s need in this scale. Lynx Mk88 Interior – 32765. This set is slightly different in that one of the two sheets of etched brass is not only pre-painted, but self adhesive. The parts include the instrument panel with a backing with the instrument painted on. At least in this set the instrument is completely different to the earlier release, showing the larger panel of this mark. When joined, but before fitting to the kit, it might be an idea to add a drop of Klear or Aqua gloss to each instrument to depict the glass face. Also included on the self adhesive sheet are the upper and central consoles, warning light bar, circuit breakers, radar screen, and auxiliary flight instruments for the cockpit and the black and yellow warning strip for around the cabin door window frames, placards and emergency release handle, also in black and yellow. The larger unpainted sheet contains parts to enhance the actual frames for the cockpit bulkhead and cabin doors, cockpit centre console sides, instrument panel coaming, cabin door cards, and other detail parts for both the cabin and the cockpit including such as the cyclic and collective control sticks, upper console and upper glass frame. Lynx Mk88 Interior Zoom Set – 33120. This is the much simplified set for those modeller who don’t want to add too much to their model, but just add that little extra detail to enhance the completed model. The set includes just one sheet contains all the parts that are on the pre-painted, self adhesive sheet mentioned above. Conclusion As with the earlier Mk88 kit, the Revell Lynx HAS-3 is a great kit, which can still be greatly enhanced with the addition of some or all of these sets are certain items that are lacking, due mainly to the limitations of the injection moulding process. As with these types of aftermarket sets some parts are easier to add than others, but with patience and a steady hand a superb model can be built. Review sample courtesy of Review sample courtesy of
  23. One Lynx HMA8 from the Airfix gift set painted with a mix of enamel and the sets acrylics. Next build a Super Étendard.
  24. Hi, here are pics on my Airfix Lynx converted to G-LYNX using the Belcher Bits conversion set. It was part of the Lynx GB and finished just in time, but desater struck and I had to reassemble some parts before I could take pics this morning. So that is why I now post the pics here instead of the (meanwhile closed) GB Gallery... Build log is here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234950976-148-airfix-lynx-g-lynx-world-speed-record/ Thanks for looking, Rene
  25. A great kit, and my first Lynx since 1974. Matchbox' Lynx was in fact my second model when I began building as a kid. Airfix Lynx is a fantastic kit, I enjoyed almost every second during the build. My solution to the intake guard problem was to use some Tamiya tape to simulate the covers (also on the exhausts). They also gave the model some nice red decorations. I didn't use the decals for the rotors, since the colour of the ones for the main rotor was wrong and wasn't sure of the fit of those provided for the rear rotor. I used Gunze gloss blue and tons of Johnsons to achieve the very glossy finish of these Danish birds. I added new seatbelts, some details in the cabin, at the windscreen vipers and the hook, but the rest is OOB. I tried to find more details, but Airfix great model made it almost impossible. However, there are some mistakes in the instructions that I discovered too late. So those of you that know every detail of Danish Lynx, can find a number of small errors. Unfortunately I started it a bit too early to participate at the Lynx group build... Here is a last picture. Hope you like it.
