  1. A couple of Eduards 1/48 Fw190s almost oob just different schemes, [1] Fw190A-5/U8 Wk, Nr, 1478 SKG10 Deblin 1943 [2] Fw190F-8 9.SG77 Chrudim 1945 Cheers Andy
  2. Just a simple conversion of ICM's Ju88A-5 using Aims conversion set. The biggest problem with all of ICM's Ju88 family is the cockpit, it lacks an accurate cockpit floor! This is where the Aims conversion comes into play supplying an accurate cockpit floor, unfortunately because of ICMs error the seat mountings are far too tall for the corrected floor and require modification. The rest of the conversion is relatively easy just replacing wing tips, cowling faces and modifying exhausts. I also used Eduards 'Big Ed' photoetch, Brassin wheels and Aims corrected prop and spinner The machine represented is Wk. Nr. 4079 of 1./KG.54 Evreaux France 1940, decals used were also from Aims, Cheers Andy
  3. After my previous efforts with Eduard's 109E's I decided to move onto their 109F's! I've had the Royal Boxing since its release but only now have I decided to build them, a lot easier than the 109E's I'm glad to say. I've had in my decal collection one of the Aeromaster 'Augsburg Eagle' sheets, this particular sheet featured a Bf109F-4 in an unusual scheme from JG5 which I was attracted to, so decided to model this F-4. A little research into this machine proved this was an 'Errormaster' scheme on the decal sheet! The aircraft was Yellow 3, but the style 3 on the decal sheet was wrong and was outlined in red -WRONG!! Eventually I only used the personal pilots badge and the rudder kill markings, the yellow 3 I cut from some spare decal sheet I had, the remainder of the markings were from the Eduard decal sheet. My research also showed that this machine was modified and had an interesting colour scheme. The modifications consisted of cameras in both wings and nose intakes as per 109Gs. The nose intakes, one per side, were a field modification to allow more airflow to cool the sparkplugs ( a not unusual fitting on these machines). I used two intakes from, possibly, a Hasegawa kit. These were large enough for me to slightly modify as the intakes used on the 109Fs were a different cross section. The camera ports in the wings were cut out and lined with Tamiya masking tape which I varnished over to prevent it lifting, why this aircraft was fitted with these cameras I was unable to discover. The actual camera ports were lined around in a light coloured metal or tape according to the photos I found on Asbiz JG5 section, so the tape allowed me to paint them more easily. The fairings under the cameras came from the p.e. in the Eduard kit as they appeared to match the ones in the photos. Rest of the kit was out of the box, camera glazing was U.V. glue ( a very useful item). Colour scheme was RLM70/75/78/79, these machines were F-4 Trops. redirected to JG5 in Norway and were delivered in tropical scheme of 78/79, which were then modified with the addition of 70/75. Yellow 3 was a Bf109F-4 Trop. W.Nr 10073 flown by Rudi Muller, 6./JG.5, Petsamo, Norway 1942:- Cheers Andy
  4. Airfix first produced the 1/48 Junkers Ju87B-2/R-2 in the 1980's this was probably from all the work they did on their 1/24 release. Unfortunately this was one of the last releases Airfix made before their 'initial' demise and the kit reflects this. Although being dimensionally correct the kit gives the appearance of almost being a 'test shot' seemingly unfinished. Maybe this was Airfix trying to survive their coming demise by releasing new kits as quickly as possible. I bought my Stuka almost as soon as it was released but it languished in my stash until now even though it was bought out occasionally and little bits of work were carried out but then went back into the ever growing stash. Move on nearly 40 years and lo and behold the re-established Airfix release a Junkers Ju87B-1 in 1/48 which I immediately added to my stash. This release is of course light years beyond the original 1980's release. I then decided to commence a dual build of the two Airfix Stukas and here I present the end results :- Below are the end results of the 'first tool' Junkers Ju87B-2 although built as the R-2 trop version. The details I added to this build were new interior using parts from the Hasegawa Ju87B and scratch, some interior parts from the new Airfix kit such as instrument panel, 'bomb aiming' window parts, flaps and ailerons. A Falcon vac form canopy was used, under wing bomb racks replaced, all rivet detail removed, panel lines re-scribed, drop tanks from Eduard. I made no attempt to correct the lack of detail under the fuselage as the bomb tends to disguise this area. I painted this kit with Mission Model paints for 70/71 upper camouflage and AK Real Colours for the 'early' 79 /65 colours. Weathering I kept to a minimum, decals sourced from my 'decal library'. This kit represents a Junkers Ju87R-2 Trop from 4./St.G2 'Immelmann' Libya, May 1941:- Now the recent Airfix Ju87B-1 this kit shows the advance in our hobby over the years, an excellent kit, detail far beyond Airfix's first Ju87B. I built this kit with cowlings off showing the engine which is well detailed but looks even better with a little extra detailing added. I used the Eduard photo etch details plus mask, Quickboost replacement prop.blades plus spinner and the Xtradecals sheet. The main criticism of this kit is the unfortunately placed injector pin marks (easily dealt with) and the exaggerated rivet detailing which I left alone. Kit was painted using the new AK Real Aircraft Colours which are a pleasure to spray with, although I feel that maybe the 70/71 colours were a little on the dark side!! I used the Xtradecals sheet which as always performed well. The kit was finished as a machine from 7./St.G51 France 1940 again weathering was kept to a minimum:- An interesting comparison build showing how our hobby has advanced over the past 40 years, or in my case the past 55+ years 😖. Cheers Andy
