Hi all. Coming in very late to this GB with the Airfix kit. I'll be painting it in the Yugoslavian Airforce Flying Stars (Letece Zvezde) scheme (as it's a bit more interwsting to me than bare metal or camoflage. As it's a display team scheme it should reaslly be in flight and also as the cockpit detail is pretty poor, well non-existant, there's no point in having an open cockpit. Though in fairness a lot of the other details such as wheel-wells and air-brakes are nice. So I might build another at some point when the upgrade kits start appearing. I started it last night, no box or sprue shots as I forgot, whilst waiting for some varnish to dry on my Whippet for the WW1 GB. And so far I've got to say...I think the kit's a bit of a dog egg. It's not going together well at all. Pilot painted. I should have waited for the wash to dry before taking the picture really but you get the idea. I actually put 3 layers of highlights on the little blob of styrene masquerading as a pilot figure but underthinned my ink-wash and lost most of it. Also I've not painted a figure in 6-7 years and 28mm was more my medium as opposed to 20mm. In to the fus. and It's not going together well at all. Case in point; test fitting the cockpit assembly casused the fusalage to explode. The tail fits together poorly and has an annoying twist. The fuselage halves also have a visible step when joined. Which they now are. As you can see, despite the fact that everything appeared to be in the correct places (which I'm pretty sure they were) the top of the dash (I've had a complete brain fart as to what this is actually called) sits proud of the fus. meaning sanding (difficult it has a decal on it) or filling somehow is going to be a necessary. So, I've not taken any more pictures yet as I'm writing this up after having gued the wings together and sanding a half ton of plastic, but I've also just noticed that the clear parts have been poorly cast and have in fact crazed in one place. More sads. This thing is really testing me. But, Nil Desperandum, I'll soldier on and see what I can save. More pictures tomorrow when I've given the thing a coat of primer and seen how successful attack of the sanding sticks has been. Cheers peeps, Paul
