Avro Lancaster B Mk. I (Serial No. R5727), built in the UK and flown to Victory Aircraft in Malton, Ontario, in August 1942 to serve as a pattern for the other Lancasters to be built in Canada. The fabrication drawings had been delivered in January, 1942. R5727 became the first of the type to conduct a transatlantic crossing. The first Canadian-built Lancaster was a Mk. X (Serial No. KB700), aka “The Ruhr Express” coming off the line a year after R5727 arrived in Canada.

Hello all; Here’s my recently completed Lancaster, the RAAF’s 460 Squadron G-George. The WIP thread is from the current GB and is here; I must say I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would and a lot of my preconceived ideas and prejudices about older tooling kits were knocked down. Here’s a few pics of how he turned out, there’s more about the build as well as George itself on my site. Cheers.

I decide to finally put screwdriver to spanner and build this one of a kind Lancaster. Lacks a bit of detail! but overall the proportions seem about right. Enjoy.

As 'What ifs' are allowed I have commenced the build of my other 1/96 Frog Lancaster to convert it to the Avro 684 fitted with a Vickers pressure vessel on the nose in a similar way to the Mk V and VI Wellingtons. bonson_the_avro_lincoln_prototype_type_684_by_kirovrampager-d5h6fsb by arhills, on Flickr My model will look roughly like this. IMG_1361 by arhills, on Flickr Many years ago I made a 1/72 Vickers pressure vessel on a lathe and vac-formed over it. I'm quite pleased with the results and think it might work for the 684. IMG_1757 by arhills, on Flickr IMG_1758 by arhills, on Flickr This is my good friend Geoff - here turning my spinners for my Deerhound engined Whitley IMG_0712 by arhills, on Flickr Geoff has already made me a 1/72 former and will produce one in 1/96 from the billet seen here. He is very skilled. He is also vulnerable in the current situation so my bits of ally will be put through his letterbox after they and the packaging has been thoroughly sterilised !!
