Hi all, something a little different for me. I'm a big fan of Lord of the Rings and really liked the look of the Helm's Deep fortress in the film so thought I'd have a go at making my own mini version! I only started this on the weekend but quickly got adsorbed and it just flew by so here's where i'm at after two days: The plan: And we're off Couldn't resist this shot looking down the deepening wall: Some plaster to simulate the stone work: A biro for the hornberg: plaster rock and clay added: And finally some balsa added to form the sides. I'll add more clay and wood filler to bring the terrain into the balsa. Almost done on the building part now, just the main gate doors to be added.

The plan is to model Strider sitting in a corner of the inn from the Lord of the Rings. I started with his chair so I can have a base for sculpting the figure. I like the idea of mismatched country furniture and am putting him in a Welsh stick chair. My other hobby is woodworking, especially making chairs, So I built this the same way I'd build a regular wooden chair but using styrene and steel rod.

I started a conversion of an old Airfix Scots Grey. He'll hopefully end up as Theoden from Lord of the Rings charging to save Minas Tirith. I found a random resin head in my boneyard that is perfect. Repositioned his arms and sculpted his helmet, loosely based on Anglo Saxon helms. Hard to tell but there's a tiny dragon on the brow. I just did his mail sleeve tonight. I carved one of his stirrup pant legs into a tall boot. I modified the 1796 heavy cavalry sword to represent Herugrim, made the pomel into a dragon. The shield will be embossed kind of like the Battersea shield. That's been the hardest thing to sculpt so far,

"Bright blue his jacket is and his boots are yellow" Here's a 54 mm metal figure of Tom Bombadil from Lord of the Rings, made by Mithril Miniatures in Ireland in the 90s. Most of their range are 32 mm figures but they did a few 54 mm too. I primed him up and base coated. He will eventually be in a vignette with Goldberry and maybe a willow tree.
