  1. Hi All, just thought I would share my little effort for an upcoming show, the theme of the show is the Korean War. Given what I know, it was quite muddy, so went to town on it. This was a first and think it turned out ok Hope u's all like it. Any thoughts/comments appreciated. Cheers Pearse
  2. Hello Chaps I'm toying with the idea of going outside my comfort zone for the upcoming Korean War GB and doing a little armour. I was thinking of doing a North Korean T-34 in 1/48 scale but have a couple of queries. Did they only use the T-34/85s or did they have any earlier versions? The few photos I can find, the markings seem to consist of a number on the side of the turret. Would this have been both sides and were there any other markings? I think I'm going for the Hobby Boss kit as it seems to be the best from what I've read, anything I should be aware of? Also anyone know of a good reference for DPRK armour of that era? Online or in good old fashioned book form! Sorry to bombard you with questions cheers Segan
  3. Morning guys, yesterday at night i finished another mustang, built for the Mustang STGB here on BM. She was built and painted along with my Sweet Arlene, but i did not have time to finish her (i wanted to try some more dirty weathering for her), so she had to wait. Hope it did worth The kit is again well known Airfix P/F-51D, this time i used CMK wheels (i like how much their wheels "sits down", for the fully loaded plane it looks good to me), Quickboost seat and exhausts, stole the antena stick from Italeri P-51A (i m pretty sure i m not going to built that one, i m not THAT crazy.. and the Airfix antene stick is professionaly hiden in so much flash, it looks like part of the platic frame.. ). I did add some tubes on cowling, under exhausts, there is some opening and it appears some late mustangs had a "tube" fitted in and on photo it shows this one had it too. So i tried to do that on the kit too. Next i added new glass to gunsight and few wires around (u/c legs, rockets and one under tail). Other than that it was build just OOB. The decals are also from the kit. The only problem i had with the USAF letters, on the top side of wing i screwed it a bit and there is some silvering I was lazy to cut the single letters, next time i might do that. Also the sharkmouth was a bit fight to fit (but it can as well be just by hands), when i wanted to settle it down following photos of real aircraft, i ended up with almost 2mm gap between the two sides under nose. Had to paint it with red and it is slightly darker red shade Also the FF-943 flying as warbird on airshows has black stripe painted on bottom side of wing, ending on top side behind MG´s. This is not in the kit instructions, but i liked it more + the photo shows some kind of darker area on the leading edge around the guns and many more mustangs from the same unit had that stripes, so i thought it would bring a bit of life to the full aluminium airframe. Speaking about photos of real aircraft - the only photo i have shows this mustang quite clean. But i wanted to build some dirty bird, so i used photos of some heavily weathered Korean War mustangs as references, hope you wont mind.. The WIP for anyone interested you can find here http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234965758-p-51d-f-51d-sweet-arlene-and-korean-war-bird-both-finished/?p=1710160 So, here are the final shots And all my mustangs together 4 of them were finished in last 24 days (3 of them built in that time frame), for me thats too fast definitely.. Only the RAF Mustang IV was built earlier. So thanks for watching and hope you like her Any comments are welcome, mainly about the weathering, because i want to find how to do some proper weathering on NMF/aluminium finish.. Thanks
  4. Minicraft 1:144th B-29's - Korean War I started building these for the Korean War GB earlier this year but with a house move and a baby arrival I ran out of time. The Minicraft 1:144 B-29's are quite simple kits but required quite a bit of work to make them presentable. All the gun barrels were removed from the turrets and replaced with wire. The raised panel lines were sanded back and both aircraft were completely rescribed. Decals are by Kits-World and are some of the best I have used lately. Painted with Citadel and Vallejo. Weathered with Mig Ammo washes. 5. Hi all These will be my air entries to the GB. Two of Minicraft's 1:144 B-29's with decals from Kits world. IMG_3897 by Snapper_city, on Flickr IMG_3899 by Snapper_city, on Flickr I will be building the 'Spirit of Freeport' and 'Top of the Mark' with black undersides. IMG_3900 by Snapper_city, on Flickr I'm tempted to get another B-29 and do 'Command decision' also which shot down five Mig-15's during her time in Korea. There is some great reading a few paragraphs down HERE about 'Top of the Mark' and 'Command Decision'.
  6. WELL! Here we go, my first Group Build and on familiar ground The kits are by HobbyBoss and are a fantastic build The cunning Plan: the M26A1 to be 1st US Marine Division, Chosin 1950 and the M45 of the 6th Medium Tank Battalion M26A1 Pershing with RB .30cal & .50cal MG's and MDC .50cal ammo belts and a few resin ammo boxes M45 Howitzer Tank using T26E4 base kit and Accurate Armour M45 Howitzer conversion (had this for years, about time I used it) - Time is now 09:40 on Saturday 19th April 2014 and the build starts now! (well, after breakfast anyway )
  7. OMG, I'm doing a plane and it's part of our Group Saturday Build Club so I'll only be working on it for 4 hours every other Saturday so, this should be interesting as there are technically only 4 more Build Saturdays between now and the end of this GB, that's 16 hours (because if they happen to clash with Club Night, also a Saturday, we don't have them!). A few of the Club members get together to build without interruption from family etc and it goes quite well. Now, some will say the kit is wrong, it needs this or that but this will be strictly 'out the box' Early construction seems to be going well at least there is sustenance Well, this how far I've got in the first 4 hours - not bad considering it's the first aircraft built by me in over 30 years (with guidance and advice from SleeperService) This will now be consigned to the kit box until Saturday 17th May when I shall continue with the cockpit construction and I start throwing some paint around. That part is a peculiarity of Aircraft building - painting the inside before gluing it together
  8. Hi all This will be my land entry. One of Bronco's many M-24 Chaffee boxing's with RB Models metal barrels. From everything I have read about this kit it isn't a quick build comprising of many sub component builds. Having looked through the instructions I can see what they mean but I'm really looking forward to building this. The large box that it comes in. IMG_3894 by Snapper_city, on Flickr By large box I mean that is the hull in the top right corner. IMG_3895 by Snapper_city, on Flickr
  9. Kit – Academy 1:48. Paint – Alclad lacquers, Humbrol & Xtracolour enamels, Tamiya acrylics. Decals – Aeromaster 48-278 ‘Sabres over Korea III’ Extras – None. North American F-86F-30 Sabre ‘Nina V’ Assigned to Col. Robert Baldwin CO, 51st Fighter Interceptor Group K-13 (Suwon AB) South Korea Summer 1953. Not my best by a long way, but now I have a Sabre in the cabinet which is something that I’ve wanted for a l-o-n-g time. As ever please feel free to comment, ask questions or criticise constructively and thanks for taking the time to look. Ian
