  1. Another blast from the past. This kit is from 1965, although when I first built it in 1981, there was a "new" stamp on the cover. "New" meaning reissue of course. I am building the 2013 release, with Cartograf decals: The parts breakdown is predictably simple. I will be building this "wheels up", so as not to spoil the clean lines. I still have two more kits in the stash, albeit of an older boxing. The trickiest part of this will be painting the transparency framing, as the framing is rendered as very narrow lines. When I built a "Val" a couple of weeks ago, I had the same choice of paint schemes as here. For that, I chose the light grey (hemp) scheme, so it's only fair I go for the dark green/light grey scheme this time around,
  2. Hello, I'm interested in building a model of one of these Dinahs, but my Google and reference search produced no wartime photos of any Ki-46-III with these emblems, only profiles. Could they be just fantasy? Source: Gahoh.net Any help is appreciated.
  3. Hi Everyone This is the Tamiya 1/48 Mitsubishi Ki-46 Dinah which has been lurking unfinished for ages and collecting dust. I finally decided to give it the extra push and consider it to be finished now. Hope you enjoy and thanks for looking. Trace
  4. Hi there! Hope that this one will get more comments than the Wulf. But whatever, here we go. Same target, KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid! It's been started a week or so ago, and I plan to make it a 2020 complete build.
  5. Yeah, why not? 😱 Another kit I have clear memories of, up there on the Woolworths Wall of Kits, with the Corsairs strafing the airfield while a flight of Dinahs do their best to get away through the bullets and bombs. That and the cool tiger on the tail. What wasn't to like for the 10-year-old or thereabouts me. I think this was the first Japanese aircraft I ever built. I know I had an Airfix Zero, but it was painted. I also had a Revell Tony and Frank but they were painted too - not necessarily in appropriate colours. I know the Dinah wasn't painted so likely it was earlier. It was also moulded in light grey, so it didn't need much paint to look like the one on the box, except I think I eventually painted the spinners yellow. It's a very cool design, and I've revisited it a few times via the LS kits, of which I think I've built 3 out of 4 but this is the first time in over 50 years that I've gone back to the Airfix kit. Should be interesting. John
  6. I've just finished this pair, the Hasegawa Ki-46 Dinah, representing two aircraft of the 18th Dokuritsu Hiko Chutai based in China in 1943 and 1944 respectively. The kit was quite a straightforward build and I don't recall having any particular issues with it - a rambling build thread is here if you need a step-by-step account. Additional bits and pieces used were Eduard's microfabric seatbelts and canopy masks, Maketar Hinomaru/Meatball masks for the national markings and a bit of EZ-line for the antenna wire on the Ki-46-II. Paints used were Sovereign Colourcoats for all the main colours (they are listed in detail in the build thread) and various acrylics for the detail painting. The varnish coat was Windsor and Newton Galeria matt varnish cut with IPA. The kit transfers provided the tiger markings for the tails and functioned satisfactorily though not brilliantly; the legendary qualities of Hasegawa decals were one of the motivators for using the Maketar masks to paint the national markings. I'd like to record once more my gratitude to Nick Millman who in addition to the information provided on his blog patiently answered my questions and without whose suggestions and advice I would not be as happy with the end result as I am now. Speaking of which - and enough speaking - here they are, first the Ki-46-II: ... and the Ki-46-III Thanks for your indulgence gents Cheers, Stew
  7. Hiya. My Ki-46 is finished. Had a lot of fun with the plane. It is first presented on this forum. Enjoy. Thanks for watching. Dawid
  8. I got a little fed up with my T-55 (http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234946814-t-55a-tamiya-135/) so i decided to start something else. The choice was quick as i wanted to build something out of box. So, there's my Ki-46. I hope for a quick job. We'll see. Interior is not very complicated. I put the surfacer on i a little of Pactra's Flat Black for preshadings. ...and I've put together an undercarriage. That would be it for now.
  9. As I have 3 Japanese trainers in the stash I may as well tackle one as a practice run once I return to the fold properly. However I will need the correct paint (or near enough as I can make it factory fresh or faded). Emptying boxes I found I have Revell #30 but am unsure about it's suitability. Is it passable or is there a Humbrol or Tamiya option as ideally I don't want to get into mixing %s or special ordering (preferably available in Antics) I know the it's been discussed before as I've read similar requests at least once, but as usual Murphy's law says if I want a specific thread I won't be able to find it... Even delving elsewhere on the webosphere simply brings up mixes, technical specs etc as opposed to a simple 'use paint X' .... Thx in advance. - or alternative schemes for a Dinah trainer is another option (the Willow is much easier!)
