  1. Dates: 2 Mar 2019 to 9 June 2019 Host: modelling minion Hi all, With the lack of any helicopter types appearing in upcoming GB's does anyone fancy a CH-46 / KV-107 one? There are lots of great schemes out there for them from Swedish splinter camo to Pan Am heli-liners and there are nice kits in both 1/72 and 1/48 scale. So what do you say, any takers? The list so far... 1. Me 2. Milktrip 3. Red Dot 4. Moaning Dolphin 5. Jabba 6. Jrlx 7. Nigel Heath 8. Knight Flyer 9. Bootneck 10. Trojan Thunder 11. Rodders 12. Andrew W 13. Jessica 14. Paul J 15. 2. As I'm running this GB I suppose I ought to mark my spot with my first kit, yes there might be another one! First off will be a scheme I have wanted to do for a long time, that being the scheme worn by KV-107's of the Japanese Ground Self Defence Force based on the island of Okinawa and used for search and rescue duties. The main reason I want to do this is the fact that these aircraft carried a unique colour scheme for JGSDF KV-107's (it has also been used by UH-1's and MU-2's used for the same purpose on Okinawa) of white, orange and dark olive green split horizontally along the fuselage length. The kit I will be using for my build is the classic 1/72 Fujimi kit of the KV-107 and the decals will come from a recent sheet by Print Scale. First off here is the box art of the kit I will be using; Next up is a shot of the contents of the box showing that the kit has not been started yet; A fair amount of parts in there but a few are for different options and not relevant to the scheme I want to build. And finally a shot of the decal sheet I will be using and the scheme that she will be finished in; Now as you can just about see from the pictures on the instruction sheet she flew both with and without the large sponsons and I'm thinking of building her without them as I can then use them in cross kitting with a CH-46 kit so that I can build a Swedish HKP-4, as these have the same rear pylon as the US versions but have the large sponsons of the Japanese KV-107. And yes the Swedish one is a possibility for a second build but not in the splinter scheme as Steve is doing that scheme already and I wouldn't want to step on his toes . That's it for now, just have to wait until Saturday before I can make a start! Craig.
  3. Howdy folks, this is for now just a slot keeper, I'll add photos as soon as I get the jest of how to post them. Enjoy the group.
  4. This topic is a bit of a beg to be honest, but we will get to that later. This family of helicopters has appealed to me for a long time but has always seemed like the Chinook's poor cousin in terms of public perception and for the life of me I cannot figure out why. This helicopter has done, and continues to do, almost everything that has ever been asked of a helo from troop transport to fleet replenishment to SAR and putting out fires and much more. It comes in several versions and in some cracking colour schemes, lets take a look at some of them; There's the US Navy Now that is a standard some would say boring over all grey, but there is nothing boring about this one! Colourful enough for you? And then there is the USMC, the largest operator of the "Phrog" who only recently replaced them, they came in green; As used in Vietnam, incidentally a Marines CH-46 was the last helo to depart from the US embassy in Saigon. Then there were the multi-coloured camo ones like this; As used in the Gulf War. And then there were the colourful rescue versions, a scheme also used by the US Navy; And lets not the forget the KV-107's built in Japan and used by the JASDF; The JMSDF; And the JGSDF. They were also used by Sweden in the awesome splinter camo (as well as just green); There was Thailand; And Saudi Arabia; And I know it never carried the red, white and blue roundels of the UK but you cannot get more red, white and blue than this one!; Or a nice yellow one; So my question is this. Why not build one? I have a thread running for a STGB and we need support if we are to make the numbers required. We are only 3 short of the 25 needed and we would really like for this one to go ahead as it is for something a bit different from the normal Spitfires,109's,Mustangs,Phantoms and the like, not that there is anything wrong with those as i build them myself but just for a change lets fill a STGB slot with something different and quite colourful. If you feel like putting your name down then pop along to the proposal in this link; Your support will be greatly appreciated. Craig.
