  1. In 2020 Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) is to rebox the 1/72nd Italeri Saab JAS 39 Gripen kits. 2. Finally finished the Italeri 1/48th JAS-39A Gripen. The kit is kind of clunky with thick parts and only an ok fit. I got it second hand for cheap and it looks ok once it's together. The speedbrakes are a little small for the openings, the canopy was too short in length to fill the opening if closed, and the AIM-9 missiles had deep ejector pin marks on the outboard sides. I used Hataka lacquer (orange line) paints and they went on great. My first mistake was use this as my first attempt at airbrushing Pledge/Future as a gloss coat. Major runs and pooling that once dry I had to strip off the bad areas. I reapplied Pledge with a brush but it wasn't an even coat. The kit decals were thick and very matte. I hesitated to use them but couldn't find aftermarket replacements for cheap so used the kit decals. I should have trimmed the large tail numbers down because I had some silvering on them. I sprayed Testors spray can dullcote thinking it would be ok over the Pledge. I tried doing light coats, but it still got through the Pledge and caused some paint runs and separation in the Hataka dark gray. Had some blueing and a weird purple color in a couple of places. I was able to touch it up with a brush of Hataka but it's not great. I used Master brass pitot and AoA probes. They look much better than the kit parts which were way too thick. The kit nose pitot boom was broken on the sprue so it would have had a knot of glue if I tried to use it anyway. The Master probes are nice but very delicate and easy to bend. Next time I'll just use straight pins. The brass pieces need to be painted and pins generally can be left alone. I checked several online build reviews but in the end did not do any of the "corrections" identified - canopy sill outline, canard size, shoulder strake thinning. Anyway, here she sits. I might try another one some day. I would try the 1/48th Kitty Hawk kit next time, even though I've read it's a bit difficult in places too.
  3. My last build of 2019 Saab JAS-39D from Revell. Nice model to look and and build tho a few inaccuracies in the model to correct. Mainly the angle of the nose gear door being at 45 deg and not vertical as per the instructions (paperclip mod required) Must thank Julien for the walkaround post that was invaluable for checking colours and position of the gear door. https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/71776-saab-gripen/
  4. Revell Saab JAS-39C is released now. But the test builders already have a double seat trainer variant JAS-39D: http://modelforum.cz/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=90083&p=1680379&hilit=gripen#p1680396 JAS-39D cockpit: http://modelforum.cz/download/file.php?id=1036328 When will be released?
  5. Hello Gents, I’d like to hear Your thoughts and maybe even some help on building Swedish SAAB JAS-39 Gripen. First things first. Sorry for my English. It’s not my native language, but I’ll try my best. The aircraft I’d like to build is more known as a Gripen Demonstrator (picture bellow). If I understood correctly it's NG version. So, the here comes the questions: What are the major differences from version B/D? Is it requires a lot of rework and modifications? I can’t find good pictures of twin seater cockpit. Where can I get Meteor missiles? Cause at the moment it seems like only Revell Typhoon got them. Maybe someone has some more detailed pictures of the right side of the airframe closer to the speed brakes, cause I need to identify logos and the names of the companies for custom made deacals? Please, let me know, what You think and what recommendations You've got. Looking forward to hear from You, guys! Kind regards, Edgaras
