SABRE F86 GOLDEN HAWKS ROYAL CANADIAN AIR FORCE DISPLAY TEAM Finished this one about Christmas time, just got round to photo-ing it before it goes into its box. Its the Italeri 1/32 boxing with Leading Edge decals. Always fancied building a Sabre & fancied doing something a bit different from camo schemes. Came across these decals on evilbay & thought they were rather eye catching. I used the Avionix cockpit set, kindly obtained one here from redcap, lovely set that fits reasonably well, however I scratched my own IP using some kit parts, as I felt they would look better than the resin one. The kit itself is a chunky affair with some of the thickest sprues I have ever seen! Panel lines etc are a little heavy & inaccurate here & there but nothing to worry me. I added some detail to the Oleo legs, added vents in the side of the fuselage, scratched some sugar scoops for the under belly & improved the gun ports shape with milliput. Other refinements were to soften the shape of the nose ring (much too sharp in the molding) thin out the tail pipe area & improve the shape. I also added some strengthening strips in the wing, as they seems as they may be a little flexy otherwise. Gold paint was from Tamiya, loads of debate on this in the web regarding the correct colour, I used a couple of photos of the early planes (which I was building 59' I think) & this looked ok for me, other paints from Vallejo. Overall a fun build, that builds up fairly well with little filler (if you take a bit of care). As always I build for fun to try & convey the look of the subject & don't profess it to be totally accurate. Anyway enough guff, here's the pics.
