Hey All, This is Tamiya's T-55 Engima. Somewhat iconic in its day during desert storm, you can still see at least five preserved examples worldwide, including one that I've been luckily enough to get up close and personal with at the Bovington Tank Museum. The outlandish look of the vehicle and the lack of definitive details surrounding it certainly means this T-55 variant lives up to its name, and inspired me to build one for myself. The kit was built out of the box. I painted the vehicle in Tamiya Deck Tan and then chipped it back with Humbrol 155, before using oils, pigments and thinned down acrylic filters to weather and dust the vehicle. Additionally, I used quite a bit of raw umber and burnt sienna oils to create the streaking effects. Thanks for looking! Sam

Inspired by the outbreak of Desert Storm, or Gulf War One, I built this MiG-21MF in Iraqi markings and camouflage. Although it’s close to 30 years old now, I had never really taken “proper” pics of it. I finally took her over to the Coffield Regional Airport in Rockdale, Texas for a photo-shoot a few years ago.. It is the ESCI 1/48 kit that was originally released by OEZ. The kit had two different top fuselage inserts for three versions of the fighter. I’d like to think that I have the skills now to avoid that awful step behind the cockpit, but I guess I was satisfied to leave it back in ’92. The Fishbed was built along with a Philippines Air Force Northrop F-5A “Freedom Fighter” as a sort of “export fighter” theme project. Both were popular planes enabling Third World countries a high-performance jet, representing both East and West blocs. I also note in the pics that the front LG was somewhat loose and is crooked in some shots too. Grrrrr. Oh well, she’s posed in all her flaws and defects here. The dark paint was Pactra enamel, long gone now, the other colors are Humbrol and ModelMaster enamels, sprayed with my Paasche H. Decals are aftermarket and represent an aircraft in the Iran-Iraq War of the ’80s. If you squint a bit, and tilt your head just right, it does look sort of like a MiG-21. Thanks for stopping in and having a look at the old girl. All comments are appreciated!

T-55 Tank D-10T 100mm Barrel D:Vision Miniature In association with Part of the D:Toys empire, D:Vision is a new one on me, so I thought it worthwhile checking out their products. This is a replacement turned aluminium barrel for T-55 tanks in 1:35, so is therefore suitable for the Tamiya kits of the "vanilla" T-55 and their newer ENIGMA up-armoured edition, as well as the Trumpeter kits, which although cheaper than the Tamiya offerings are inferior in terms of detail and accuracy out of the box. Supplied in a Ziplok bag on a thick black header-card, the barrel is crisply turned, has a hollow end, with an impression of the rifling inside the barrel, extending some 3mm down the barrel, which is as far as the eye can see once the barrel is painted. There is a sizeable attachment pin to the rear of the barrel, so once glued with super glue, I doubt it would move unless subjected to some serious force. As usual with metal parts on kits, a slight scuffing with a sanding stick or wire wool will improve paint adhesion. Conclusion A very nice piece, and competition for other producers of turned metal aftermarket items. Review sample courtesy of
