  1. MPM has released a series of Fokker D.XXI plastic kits, including one in Dutch neutrality markings, which I have: https://www.super-hobby.co.uk/products/Fokker-D.XXI-Dutch-Patrol.html At the same time, there are quite a few aftermarket resin sets made by Kora for this kit: ... and they`re not exactly cheap if you add them up. On the bright side though, Kora has thought to release two sets for the Dutch Fokkers that contain all of the above, apart for the Elevator set, but also add decals: I bought the first one, with the national markings, because it was on sale and I thought to do an inbox review for anyone, who just like me, might have wondered what was in those boxes and couldn`t find a list of contents or a good photo online. So, here it is: KORA-C7268 1/72 Fokker D.XXI Conv.Set (Dutch service, part 1) The package looks like this: It contains a colour sheet with the painting and decal placing instructions: Some basic drawings showing how to assemble the resin pieces: and the back with a short English description (the rest of the page is in Czech) for the four machines you can build with the included decals: A decal with the national, pre-war markings (the MPM kit only comes with the orange neutrality markings) and numbers for 4 aircraft: It also contains stencils, including for the propeller logos and tricolor bands and the little red cross for the fuselage that are missing from the MPM decal. As you can see, the decal comes with a warning sheet. And here are the resin parts: As I`ve said, to my disappointment, the elevators are not included, which is a pity because they come with the 4 weird counterweights (both underside and upperside, on each side) that are not represented in the MPM kit and seem kind of a pain to make. What you get is this: - the engine cowling with the exhaust pipe molded onto it. The air filter though will have to come from the plastic kit. - the Mercury engine - with a few more details than the plastic one from the kit - if anyone knows what those two pipes/barrels each side of a cylinder are please let me know. I can`t see them in any photo of the real thing. - the propeller - the proper one, that is missing from the kit. I think it is a Hamilton and the kit has a Ratier. It`s the same one used on the Blenheim so if you have a Blenheim kit that you`re not building you can take it from there. On the downside, there is no alignment tool so it`s gonna be hit and miss. - the landing gear - the main legs are allegedly too thick in the kit for the Dutch machines. The Kora legs seem about the same thickness as the MPM ones and the wheel covers are even larger, but at least they`ve added that inspection hole on the side cover of the wheel. The wheels are more detailed than the ones in the kit. The tailwheel seems significantly larger than the one from the kit, but I don`t know if this is better or worse. - that little bump (5C) from the top fuselage, behind the engine cowling, which was missing from the MPM kit. Gotta have it! - the small box (medical kit?) (4A) that goes behind the pilot`s seat. The MPM kit also has this as a resin piece. - the seat - with the seatbelts cast onto it. The kit`s seat lacks them, but then again, MPM offers the seatbelts as coloured photoetch. - the control stick. - the sidewalls and the rest of the interior structure. The MPM kit uses plastic plates to represent what was otherwise a metal tubular structure and the resin pieces that come with the MPM kit are not much of an improvement. The Kora pieces are more of what should be there, but all the tubes are united with resin flash so it`s going to take some work to free those bars. I`m still thinking about how to proceed. As far as the quality of the casting is concerned, at a first glance, I`ve noticed quite a few air bubble holes (one on a wheel, on a leg, a propeller blade and a couple of the interior tubes, the exhaust pipe etc.) that will need to be filled. Here`s hopping that separating the parts from the blocks is not going to reveal more of them. I hope someone will find this useful when wondering about supplementing the MPM kit with an aftermarket. It proved impossible to me to find detailed info on the contents before going ahead with the purchase. As I`ve said, I bought this with my own money (the MPM kit as well) and there`s no commercial purpose to this post. All links provided above are there for illustrating purposes only.
  2. Models and More 1/32nd Focke Wulf Triebflügel Review Early this month while looking at the forum over on Large Scale planes i came across a thred posted by a member on a new 1/32 resin Triebflugel. The company selling this strange beast is Models and More from the U.S. Finding a new 1/32 Luft46 kit is as rare as hens teeth , iI can only think of the Camett mistel flying bomb . There are a few almost what ifs such as the Natter and the soon to be released Horton ho 229 ,both of which flew and crashed ,killing their pilots. So when a new Triebflugel came to my attention i had to get one ASAP especially as this is a truely limited production of 50 kits. With a price of £50.00 i felt i wasnt takeing much of a risk ,a 1/48 planet Models Triebflugel costs more. The kit came in a little over a week and managed to escape customs charges . The packageing consists of a typical folded box used by most cottage industry Resin kit manufactures and being corrigated is resistant to collapse when under a stack of other kits in your stash , though you would be better keeping this kit on the top of the pile as the small box of contents comes in at 553 grams . From the side of the box it can be seen that the kit is made for Models and More by Antares from Argentina Antares have been makeing a range of Luft 46 complete kits and many conversions for the Me 262 for many years in 1/48 and 1/72 scale but no 1/32 . This Kit isnot listed on their website so is only available on the Models and More site. On opening the box the contents spring out as its stuffed with resin . It will take time to get it all back in. The contents are protected with polystyrene chips and in plastic bags The qulity of the resin looks to be ok. The quality is not up to the standards of Planet Models or Alleycat ,however i have seen far worse. The resin is very hard and has little flexabilityso will need careful handling .I can find hardly any air bubbles ,even on the thin edges , however lots of little pimples are found on many parts and these may well be covering air bubbles near the surfaceto be exposed with sanding. . Cockpit detail looks good with some crisp moulding . looks to be similar to a Me 262 in style . The seat has moulded on harnes rudder pedals and gun sight also look good The body of the aircraft is made from 3 main parts and has been desighned in such away so that the centre section can rotate ( Just like in the original aircraft ) Metal rods are supplied to help attach the wings When the main components are placed together it looks like this will be a large model both in height and diameter. Detail on the engines looks good , each one being made up of two parts The little pimples on the wheels can easily be seen I found one of the large clam like main wheel covers to be badly damaged but hve glued the parts together and i think with a little sanding and filling will be fine. Models and More have said that if i have a problem with the part that they will send a replacement post free so looks like this businees provides good service. Two nice clear vac canopies are provided . Nice to have a spare Decals are provided for a range of luftwaffe aircraft and a model of the Triebflugel used by the Hydra in Captain America although unlike the Luftwaffe machine this one is pure fiction. Instructions are well printed and clear To sum up . This looks like it will be a seriously fun build of a good value kit . There are plenty of areas to add some detail and i'm sure that many challenges will present them selfs but that all adds to the experience. Have orderd a large stock of super glue , face masks and sanding sticks. So along with the new Eduard Bf 109 g-6 we have two what ifs this month
