The second project in the GB is going to be Ki-61, another important Japanese fighter - now an Army aircraft - flown by Teruhiko Kobayashi during 1945 to protect Tokyo from American bombings. For this one I grabbed quite a stash of aftermarket goodies - Techmod decals, Brengun p/e, canopy masking set like for Reisen. But here I also got external fuel tanks which are missing in the kit but were typically carried, Eduard exhaust pipes, also Tamiya decal for camouflage spots and a set of small masks for access doors and other small elements that are made of different metal.

I found an article about this captured machine in an ARAWASI magazine, issue 8 from 2011. An I-16 Type 10 was made airworthy again and tested extensively at Tashikawa Airfield - located near Tokyo. The only late I-16 Type 10 was handed over to the Japanese by a Mongolian pilot who deserted in May 1939 and flew to Arutoku in northern Manchuria. The aircraft was painted by the Japanese with a uniform light gray-bamboo color and repainted with Hinomarus above and below the wings and then tested. The results of the tests were satisfactory as the Japanese government was interested in purchasing some Soviet I-16s captured by the Germans during Action Barbarossa, but the deal was rejected by the Germans. More interesting information can find by this URL: https://massimotessitori.altervista.org/sovietwarplanes/pages/i16/type10/type10.htm To improve the model I used 3D decals attached with wood cold glue. These are very sensitive to tweezers. A brush is more suitable

Hello, Been a while since I last posted (flu, work, more flu, etc) and apologies for the lack of WIP for this one. It all happened so fast... I got this for a tenner at the Huddersfield Show, remembering a rather fine build of this by Mike Grant I'd seen. Not saying I've approached that level here, but was inspired to break a habit and actually do a biplane - and have a go at rigging too! This is a great kit, simple, well-designed and sharply detailed. I matched a mix of Revell acrylics to an old Tamiya IJAAF light grey pot, kit decals (good, but a bit thick) and elastic thread and light swearing for the rigging. Not as hard as I thought it might be after all. The base is part of the stand that comes with the 1/32 Revell FW-190 (another steal at the Hudds Show), and various scatters and grass clumps. Dusty, isn't it, I've just realised! Welcome all constructive comments, Take care, Matt
