  1. I know, probably not the best timing for a project like this.... but what are you gonna do. To help my motivation with the documentation and considering the nature of my model projects, i think from now on im gonna just do the documentation as i go and then bring it all together in the end instead of trying to create some elaborate groundwork with all the info i can remember. This way i can just get right to it instead of spending a day scratching my brain trying to see if i remembered everything. So, some time ago i bought some Tamiya russian assault infantry as a bonus (12 figures for 12€... how could i say no) along with some German stuff. I started to think later that i really should get these guys some sort of a tank, as that's what they are meant to be used alongside with... but me being me... i may have gotten slightly derailed, and went with the MBV-2 armored train instead, along with some other stuff. For that, back then and very recently, i got my self a collection of figure sets to go along with the models i have, and to make sure i truly crash, i went ahead and got even more, along with even more soviet equipment, with a T-35 superheavy among them. Without further ado, i think i ought to just get right to it. To help the documentation a little, and to try and brake my norms, im going to be doing these set by set instead of doing everything at once like i have with my 1/35 German figures (and when i say all, i mean like over 20 at once) I'll be using this book about WWII uniforms as my reference to try and get everything about right. It's kinda funny tough, considering how prettymuch in any other category, it's more of a case of "close enough" or "semi fictional" or something like that. For some reason with figure painting ive always consulted that book, and even the net, to try and get everything as it should be. Today we shall begin with where this whole project began. It also works nicely as a starter, as it doesn't really fit with the models i have/my ultimate plan, so it should be a good way for me to experiment a little to try and up my standards in this area. The ones that are standing outside the vehicle, will surely find their place, but the ones that are supposed to be onboard... unlikely, but it would pay off to build a couple of them and use them as testbeds for my painting experiments. Cause as you may remember form my introduction, i never took the time to watch/read any guides or tutorials since i wanted to figure stuff out on my own, the same applies even now... so wish me luck. My ultimate plan is to create a diorama around the MBV-2 armored train. Im not sure how im gonna split this up as far as the WIP and Completed side of things, and how much of the process for each set will be shown. I dunno why, but making 1/35 scale figures is probably my favorite modelling related thing to do, and since there's a good amount of variety this time around, should be a lot of fun In the time it took me to get the new figures to fill the blanks in the original lineup, and the time it took for me to get the models painted, i already did some consulting about some of the uniforms, mainly the Telogreika. Some images show it to be more of a tan/sand'ish kinda color (like the Tamiya box-art), while others show it to be more of a dark gray-green kind of situation, and on others, namely the book i have, it's somewhere in-between. I did some paint mixing today to come up with something that i feel should fit in that in-between kind of category. This is not something i like to do all that much, but this time i mixed enough to make it last trough any projects i might need it for. I started by selecting an old dried out pot of Revell 88 that i dug mostly clean. Then i poured in a generous amount of newer 88 and then bit by bit added some 67 in a ratio that in the endd seemed like 60 (88)-40 (67) to 50-50. To finish it off, i added a dash of 78 to darken it just a bit. I realize, as with many other uniforms from this era, some of that color difference probably comes from differences in fabric used by different manufacturers, same as how same kinds of Soviet helmets may have had as much as 4 different shades depending on the manufacturer, say nothing of the ones that where later painted white during winter, and possibly back to whatever it was during the summer. And then there's the greatcoats that where originally listed as gray, but some came out more khaki or brown colored. So, i will likely paint at-least a couple of the uniforms gray-green to give some more variety to my troops. Well, time to get to work and test my new paint-mix.
