Hello guys, I present to all of you my most recently finished model. It's the latest incarnation of Revell's excellent Horten Ho 229 in 1:72. There're two decal options provided and the option to have the aircraft on an in-flight position. Here are the photos:

After successfully completing my first Spitfire in 1:72, I decided to start working on my second Horten 229 from Revell. The kit will be painted in the box scheme of RLM 74/75/76 with yellow nose. Obligatory box and sprue photos:

Revell´s Ho 229 was my firts decalled model, it´s nice to have build a new one after so much time. I don´t remember my first Ho 229 having such a bad fit on the canopy though.

Last minute change of plan... Unfortunately the Unicraft kit I was going to build has Decals missing to add to the other "built in" challenges ! Therefore given the need for speed and wanting to keep the Luft 46 theme going I have gone for this; If anyone can give me a clue as to what the mottled camouflage is supposed to look like and appropriate Humbrol colours I would be eternally grateful ! Given 4 kids in the house and a list of jobs to do this weekend from SWMBO, it will be a dipping in and out when I get a moments peace technique for the Blitzbuild. Good luck everyone ! cheers Pat

This turned up Tuesday and it must be started, it says. I won't be using the kit's decals but building it as the prototype but unfortunately there are no swastikas. I have done a little research. I'm usually a firm Cold War man (with a fair bit of modern), but recently I've been getting rather interested in the last days of the Reich and the aircraft that they were producing: I love the idea that while these apocalyptic battles were going on closer and closer to Berlin, Nazi scientists worked feverishly using untapped technologies to create devastating new superweapons to unleash on the allies...well, you get the idea! So I ended up buying the 1/72 kit of an aircraft that's actually been thrown into the limelight recently with the Zoukei-Mura 1/32 kit. It's been in my stash for a couple of months now but with halloween approaching, I thought that it would be a good time to build this undoubtedly sinister looking aircraft. Lovely box art showing the Go229 in action: Nicely detailed fuselage: Cockpit parts in place and given a quick blast of rattlecan Humbrol Dark Sea Grey Wings clamped and drying: Instrument panel painted and decaled: Seat basecoated in Tamiya XF-61 Dark Grey, painted in Vallejo Model Air American Blue, harness straps and headrest done in XF-60 Dark Yellow, buckles done in XF-56 Metallic Grey, then the whole thing washed in Citadel Devlan Mud Off camera, I also gave the cockpit area a wash and did the rails and picked out the details in Metallic Grey Until next time!

Hello, this is my new projet.... the HORTEN HO-229 in 1/32 scale by Zoukei Mura. I am planning to present it in the wonderful looking version with wood and metal surface. The seatbelts coming from HGW, the wheels are the resin ones from Zoukei Mura, also the metal gears. I started with the framework for the interior which consists of several thin frame parts which were all connected with each other. So dry fitting is absolutly important to avoid later problems in the fitting. After that I painted the finished frame work in green/grey color and brush painted the details of it. The metal parts were silver/gold painted and polished. As next step I started with the engine nozzle and put together the first parts of it. Unfortunatley most of these parts are no more visible later. Maybe I will find a possibility to keep one engine open so that the turbine blades of at least one nozzle will remain visible. Next step - painting of the nozzle parts in silver before putting the nozzles together (and trying to keep one open and the inside visible). Cheers Michael

Since i don't have enough money to buy the 1/32 Horten i decided to build something smaller and cheaper ( hope some day to build the 1/32 ! ) . The kit is very simple and easy to construct in just a few days . I'm now finishing the painting of the camo . Two greens and red is my choise . Hope you like it ! ok I see this place has gotten a bit quiet over the xmas break. While I have been busy at work.......the old brain has been ticking over on other projects. Arnold got one idea in motion when he showed his He-577, part Ho-229 and part He-177, which I must say looks awesome. That was to use the Ho-229 as a basis for something. Then I saw this model on the Hellenic modeler’s web site Ho-229B I knew I had to build one similar. So a quick trip to evilbay and I now own a Dragon 1/48 Horten 229B and a Quick Boost FuG-240 Berlin long version nose! Thinking about this the FuG240 was to logical choice for this aircraft if they were to have built the night fighter. The FuG218 which this model was depicted to have would have been by this stage of the war obsolete along with the FuG220’s, plus they were known to really add extra drag to an aircraft. The new centimeter radars were in radomes, and by this stage the FuG240 & 244 radars would have become standard, they were more powerful and less susceptible to countermeasures. So the plan is to mate these two pieces together and make a state of the art (well in 46 anyway) nightfighter. I think Arnold has already started a similar project. I’m going for the longer nose version of the radome as this I think suits my plans better, plus it would allow the extra space in the front for the radar bits. Not having seen all the bits yet I suspect the cross section of the Radome is quite large and will require some major surgery to fit nicely to the nose of the 229. Plus there will be some noticeable changes to the underside with the fairing in of the new nose section. This will allow me to then to modify the nose gear to a smaller nose wheel plus I think I will have to change the way the whole thing fits. I was never a fan of the very nose up attitude of this plane. The prototype used a wheel from the He177 for the nose wheel, this seems to have probably been a quick fix for the initial trials of the prototypes. I have the book on the Horten brother so now I’ll have to read it for more info. This won’t be a quick project even though the modifications aren’t that great. The time will be from trying to fit this in with other stuff, though I’ll probably play with this project in between other projects to clear the cobwebs. Only one major GB project this year, the “Splinter” MiG-21, plus two others that will be straight “out of the box”. So I’ll probably add a bit to this thread before I start cutting plastic/resin, if I can I’ll try to do a mockup for this as well. Oh and I have the TSR2 and Tornado, grafting the Tornado nose on to the TSR2 will be interesting!!! There is some major re-profiling required, the TSR2 has a deeper fuselage while the Tornado is wider……..but that's for much later in the year.

Here I show you pics of the latest model I've finished, the Horten. At least this "project" did exist and flew, although it crashed. I tried to represent compensate my lack of airbrush with careful dry brushing, it's not perfect but is good enough for me. I took the opportunity to paint two Luftwaffe personnel figures to show a small diorama.
